AIBU about weed smokers

martapolska · 25/06/2018 22:35

I think that they are becoming more in common. Every time I walk around outside on the summer day I smell weed.

AIBU to think that we should not tolerate weed? It's an illegal drug!!

Urgh I hate it too. Where I live everyone has a segregated patch of grass where most people sit out all day smoking it. I can't even put my washing out as it stinks. I also can't open the windows on that side of my flat. What shocks me more is they sit smoking it while the kids are out playing. I really don't want my children growing up thinking it is normal behaviour but it's probably to late for that.

tolid · 26/06/2018 09:06

So i’ll tell you about my pal John who smokes weed every day, has done for twenty years. Is a scientist for his day job, supervises phd students and does his own research in university. Very intelligent, can converse on any subject

Tell us more, like WHY? why does he smoke weed?

goose1964 · 26/06/2018 09:10

Haven't a clue what it smells like. I was watching a cop show the other night and they mentioned that a lot of the larger scale growers use modern slavery with trafficked people looking after the crop, now is it harmless?

crazycatgal · 26/06/2018 09:13

I hate the smell of it. It always seems to be the same kinds of people who regularly smoke it as well. I don't know any professionals who regularly smoke weed.

NC.
Back in my late teens/ early twenties I used to sell.
I sold to everyone.
Never below my own age group though.
Its surprising the amount of adults who pick up.
There was a mix, as there is in every pub you go into. Businessmen/women, accountants, chefs, managers, as well as a few who had conditions such as MS.
Now have a J or two every now and then, I much prefer it to drinking and as far as science has proven it is less damaging than cigarettes. Though IDK why you would compare it with cigarettes as PP have- you don't get any high off of cigarettes.

I have a few friends who are strongly against using themselves but have openly said if the streets were lined with smoking cafes instead of bars there would be less violence.

Having said all of that, I don't think it's right to expose children to it- much as you shouldn't have a kid in a pub late at night- you shouldn't smoke anything around children.

Lazypoolday · 26/06/2018 09:31

Most people who smoke weed suffer no long term effects. I'm sure we all know people who drink to excess and suffer health consequences as a result, it doesn't mean that all or most people who drink will have the same and I'm sure that most of the anti weed brigade would never suggest that. In fact, many would probably be on other threads defending daily wine drinking.

I occasionally use marijuana edibles (legally available where I live), have a relaxing evening, a lovely sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day. Im definitely not a "stoner" Hmm

It's probably going to be made legal everywhere eventually. Plus, humans have been altering their consciousness in one way or another since the beginning of time, no law is going to stop that as history has proven, better to get over it.

augustusglupe · 26/06/2018 09:37

I’ve led a sheltered life, never been near a drug, but I definitely know what it smells like! It seems to be everywhere!!
We came out of a Rolling Stones concert 2 weeks ago and my eyes were stinging for days. It disgusts me tbh

martapolska · 26/06/2018 09:38

My day ruined already as the neighbour is smoking it already!

Heavy smokers make the same excuses as alcoholics do who don’t realise they are alcoholics. It impares you. I don’t care what someone does, but don’t pretend it doesn’t affect you, IMO are your judgment, and the same as being drunk, means you shouldn’t be in sole charge of children. Marijuana doesn’t bother me- but the lies that regular & heavy smokers tell themselves and others I find utterly pathetic.

BitchQueen90 · 26/06/2018 09:42

I personally don't smoke weed and I dislike the smell but I also dislike the smell of cigarettes.

I cannot get worked up about it though, I think the police have more important things to be doing than coming out to arrest everyone who is smoking a joint and I wouldn't ever report someone for it.

I enjoy an alcoholic drink in this weather myself and I don't think weed is any worse than that to be honest.

BitchQueen90 · 26/06/2018 09:45

Agree that it shouldn't be done around kids though and it should be treated the same way as alcohol is - just an occasional thing.

AlonsosLeftPinky · 26/06/2018 09:48

I can't stand the smell of weed. I don't really care what people want to do with their own bodies, but the sheer denial is irritating.

tolid · 26/06/2018 09:53

Back in my late teens/ early twenties I used to sell.

*Back in my late teens/early twenties I used to DEAL is what you mean.

You were a drug dealer.

Namechangedforthe100thtime · 26/06/2018 09:58

@tolid
Yes I was.

It got me through college and helped me rent a room.
And if I went back in time, I wouldn't do anything differently.
Everyone has a story, don't judge a book by its cover.

baxterboi · 26/06/2018 09:59

I know some dropouts who are all day everyday users of weed.

On the other end of the spectrum I know some professional people who have done very well for themselves who smoke at evenings and weekends.

In my experience, those who start in their teens (especially with the much stronger stuff nowadays) suffer more with MH than those who smoke it a bit later.

For medicinal purposes and in the form of oil I think it should be legalised.

tolid · 26/06/2018 10:00

I will judge as I choose.

Thousands of people manage life without resorting to dealing drugs. It's disgusting. It ruins lives. I wonder if you ever think about what became of all your victims. Vile. Just vile.

GunpowderGelatine · 26/06/2018 10:02

One or two people (allegedly) not being affected by smoking weed doesn't change the fact that, in general it's a harmful substance that has a likely chance of adversely affecting the user's mental health.

It's like saying "well smoking is fine because I haven't got lung cancer"

eggsandchips · 26/06/2018 10:03

I've nothing against what people choose to do however my issue is when it's done in such a way which means the rest of us have to smell it as I cannot stand the smell. Eg people who smoke it in bus shelters etc etc. It's more a question of being considerate to others IMO

martapolska · 26/06/2018 10:05

I once did sell a lot of oregano to some kids and told them it was weed jajaja Blush but would never of dealt an actual drugs.

GunpowderGelatine · 26/06/2018 10:07

Yep I'm judging a drug dealer too Hmm

Namechangedforthe100thtime · 26/06/2018 10:08

@tolid
Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion.
I wonder if you ever think about what became of all your victims. Vile. Just vile.
This did make me giggle though- Firstly I was selling something scientifically proven to be less damaging than alcohol- not crack ffs Grin and actually I'm still in contact with 90% of the people I used to sell to- 7/8 years later- most of them were friends anyway and the others just part of that group or interlinking groups.
Guess what- one of them is now my DP and an amazing father.

NonSuchFun · 26/06/2018 10:08

Momentum is building towards legalisation, and as usual, follow the money. William Hague talked about billions of tax money to be raised. So it will come. And who will benefit? The usual suspects.

In amongst all the talk I see no mention of risks regarding drug driving, it's a safe bet that some of these regular users drive. Are they drug free?

Teen recently passed driving test, has so far swallowed my anti drugs kool aid and doesn't drink, fingers crossed for the future. We watched a 999 What's your emergency together and they pulled a young driver who had last smoked 24 hours before, but still had it in his system. Lost his licence and his job.
Good viewing for a new driver, but that's not my point. The question is how many other drug drivers are out there? While police turn a blind eye to blatant use who is protecting other drivers and pedestrians?
If it is legalised what will the advice to drivers be?

It's not a straightforward issue. Plus I think regarding clearing levels from the blood stream to be safe to drive takes a lot longer than alcohol with more variables and less easy to measure. You can, for instance, buy a pack of breathalysers very cheaply if you worry about being safe to drive the morning after a night out. Not so with weed.

Tomatoesrock · 26/06/2018 10:14

I know plenty of professional who smoke weed and cocaine too, especially as weed is accessible as shatter wax, and oils now. Taking tobacco use out of it.

Many adults choose weed over alcohol. Everything in moderation is fine IMO.

Tomatoesrock · 26/06/2018 10:14

Snort cocaine not smoke it.

SluttyButty · 26/06/2018 10:25

I experimented like a lot of others with it as a teen back in the 80's but that stuff wasn't as strong back then, or at least what I tried wasn't.
The nauseating smell of skunk that's frequently smelt in our local, very posh town is everywhere. My daughter who did go to a fairly posh school said loads of the kids smoked it. Fortunately she's really not into the drink and drugs culture.

I don't care what people do inside their own homes but I don't want to have to smell it walking round town. I remember my then 8yr old asking me what that smell was on the footpath outside school.

I know canabis has its place for pain relief and I accept that but not this super strength crap that lots of people smoke 😷
