AIBU about weed smokers

martapolska · 25/06/2018 22:35

I think that they are becoming more in common. Every time I walk around outside on the summer day I smell weed.

AIBU to think that we should not tolerate weed? It's an illegal drug!!

OP posts:
ALongHardWinter · 26/06/2018 17:29

My ex used to smoke it a couple of times a week, and to hear him talk, you'd think that you were in the minority if you didn't smoke it!

MedicinalGin · 26/06/2018 17:30

Apologies haven’t rtft but I really don’t get how people can smoke weed in their cars and drive around? Are they not totally mashed?
Once I even saw a Deliveroo rider on his bike smoking and wobbling around- sure being stoned on the road is dangerous?!

SoddingUnicorns · 26/06/2018 17:30

Nobody really gets done for personal use, the cops can’t be arsed with the piles of paperwork which takes them off the beat for hours for someone having a fly joint.

SoddingUnicorns · 26/06/2018 17:31

It’s completely illegal to smoke weed and drive!

Myusernameisunique · 26/06/2018 17:31

**post fail!!!
My neighbour smokes it with their partner all day every day in their back garden, they have a DC of 7 and one of 1 year. She smoked it throughout her pregnancy with the smaller DC as well. Maybe it is no worse than drinking but well really it is as it's illegal and you shouldn't be doing it!

SoddingUnicorns · 26/06/2018 17:33

Smoking it in pregnancy has been linked to behavioural and MH problems for children.

RaininSummer · 26/06/2018 17:41

I would rather walk by a crowd of weed smokers than group of drunks any day. I would like to see.it decriminalised.

Mrskeats · 26/06/2018 17:42

Findings of a study in New Zealand
In general, the findings of the CHDS suggest that individuals who use cannabis regularly, or who begin using cannabis at earlier ages, are at increased risk of a range of adverse outcomes, including: lower levels of educational attainment; welfare dependence and unemployment; using other, more dangerous illicit drugs; and psychotic symptomatology. It should also be noted, however, that there is a substantial proportion of regular adult users who do not experience harmful consequences as a result of cannabis use.

Obvs it seems some people can cope but these are not odds I would play

MrsClutterworth · 26/06/2018 17:43

People that feel all high and mighty about it seriously need to get off their high horse. If anything it should be legal and alcohol should not. Would you rather people smoking it, chilling out and having a laugh or a bunch of drunks causing fights and filling up the prisons? Fair enough some people feel worse if they have certain mh issues but the majority of people I know who smoke it say it calms them down and makes them feel better. People judging other people for doing it are probably the ones that make complete and utter fools of themselves when they've had a drink. And to the person that said it's "scummy", I'd rather know so called scummy people that smoke weed who are funny and don't cause any trouble than total dicks that are the epitome of SCUMMY under the influence of alcohol. Wind your neck in.

RaininSummer · 26/06/2018 17:46

Of course it is true that some people go overboard or have adverse effects and get ill but ditto for alcohol and tobacco and gambling.

WerkSupp · 26/06/2018 17:48

The problem, MrsClutterworth, is that the vast majority of weed is now skunk and makes a good many users paranoid. I'd like to see it ALL decriminalised and made legal and properly regulated so people can select the strengths and know it's not mixed with some utter shit, or soaked in kerosene or actually not weed at all.

Mrskeats · 26/06/2018 18:00

I don't feel 'high and mighty' MrsClutterworth I am telling you my experience and sharing some research findings.
I don't drink much as it goes. Your post reads so defensively. Crack on then and hope that your workplace does not bring in random drug testing as many have.
Maybe as a teacher I should be having a spliff with the 6th form at lunchtime.
Oh actually no as I would lose my job.

Mabelface · 26/06/2018 18:31

I'd like to see it decriminalised and regulated, so people know exactly what they're smoking. I like the odd doobie, it chills me out when I'm stressed. Wouldn't want to smoke it heavily though, as it definitely impacts my energy levels and makes me eat more.

Ansumpasty · 26/06/2018 19:04

I used to smoke every day in my early twenties. I’d have one a day, after all my work/studying/cleaning etc had been done. I was a lot more intelligent than I am now (alrhough, that was pre children) and I was healthy, outgoing and with 0 anxiety issues. I was living in a country where it was legal and where it was fresh ‘weed’ rather than skunk.
I don’t smoke it any more, but I wish I did! I’m with the other posters who wish it was legal, instead of alcohol. Free the weed Cake

MrsClutterworth · 26/06/2018 19:49

@Mrskeats you can take my post any way you want lol but I've seen what alcohol has done to people & also how people are when they smoke weed and it's two very different outcomes. Nobody's asking you to smoke it so calm down.

Mrskeats · 26/06/2018 20:06

Why does alcohol keep being mentioned? That's not what we are talking about.
Calm down that's just rude. I notice you aren't interested in the study.
Let's not let research get in the way.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 26/06/2018 22:13

Why does alcohol keep being mentioned?

Perhaps because of the hoity-toityness on here and the "but it's DRUGS!!", yet it is nowhere near as harmful as alcohol. People describing dope smokers as "scummy" but I bet the majority are rather partial to a glass or two of one of the most dangerous and addictive drugs (because alcohol is a drug) in existence.

It stinks of hypocrisy.

Mrskeats · 26/06/2018 22:40

Hypocrisy? Why are you assuming that everyone goes out and gets hammered all the time?
Crack on then. I’m sure you would love it if doctors/teachers and other professionals stank of weed.
It is scummy. And also illegal. And props up all kinds of criminal activity.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 26/06/2018 22:48

My SIL and her ex smoked it for years. She's now in her 50s, incapable of working and lives in a constant state of apathy. Even the smallest of decisions grind her down and she has to take such a long time to process things. It's actually really saddening, and I can't understand how anyone thinks it is harmless. It really isn't. It's got to the point now that DH really struggles to be around her, as it's just too frustrating to even try and have a conversation. Her sons have both moved away, and towards the end of their teenage years, she wasn't remotely capable of parenting them.

It's so sad that anyone feels the need to be anaethetised to get through the day. Life is such a precious gift.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 26/06/2018 23:22

Why are you assuming that everyone goes out and gets hammered all the time?

Where on earth did I say that? Stop making things up to fit your own agenda. You're a teacher, you should know better than that.

I’m sure you would love it if doctors/teachers and other professionals stank of weed.

Oh don't be so ridiculous! I wouldn't like it if they stank of weed and I wouldn't like it if they stank of cigs, drink, BO etc. Who on earth would? Just for the record, before you decide to tar me with the scummy brush, I don't even use cannabis.

Herbalteahippie · 26/06/2018 23:29

Weeds is ok, and like anything, is ok in moderation.

Hash is better.

mostdays · 26/06/2018 23:29

I think it should be legalised and regulated and that this would bring more benefits than drawbacks (although I fully admit there would be drawbacks). I have definitely noticed it becoming far more common for people to smoke it openly in public and I have definitely noticed that what seems to be widely smoked these days absolutely reeks. I don't think it's cool to smoke in most public areas. We have alcohol free zones so even if we legalised it we could have cannabis free zones.

Thehop · 26/06/2018 23:31

I agree for its use medicinally but the casual users who will fill out mental health wards in future worry me.

Lazypoolday · 26/06/2018 23:49

Hypocrisy? Why are you assuming that everyone goes out and gets hammered all the time?

Why are you assuming that everyone who uses marijuana is constantly stoned out of their mind all the time to the point of using it at work and stinking of it? You're being ridiculous.
