AIBU about weed smokers

martapolska · 25/06/2018 22:35

I think that they are becoming more in common. Every time I walk around outside on the summer day I smell weed.

AIBU to think that we should not tolerate weed? It's an illegal drug!!

Jeezo.

I have smoked (actually for the last couple of years vaped) weed for the last 25 years on and off. I find it is good for my mental health ( it relaxes me, it stimulates my creativity ) . I have some most nights. Just like some folk have a couple of glasses of wine. It’s no big deal. I still look after my kids, work, be a good friend/family member/wife.

I’m not denying that for some it exarcabates existing mental health issues. But neither will I deny that for some it is an entirely harmless and positive drug.

It like most things. Different for every body.

tillytown · 25/06/2018 23:34

My brother has been smoking weed since he was 14, he is now 35. He has bad mental health issues, as do the friends who he smokes with. Stop kidding yourself that it's harmless.

OnlyJoking1 · 25/06/2018 23:44

I think there’s an argument that people who struggle with mental health may try weed to help.
Everything in moderation, for people who have addictive personalities struggle to limit the weed.
Having spent a lot of time in Amsterdam, where it is legal i have to say ive never seen any trouble caused my weed smokers.
There are a lot of medical conditions that are helped by weed.
I hope it is legalised.

HappyLollipop · 25/06/2018 23:51

I smoke it occasionally and I think many people in my age range do (I'm 25) it's definitely accepted among my peers many of whom are professionals and focus so not lazy stoners. Personally I don't see it as a 'drug' but more akin to alcohol or cigarettes neither of which I get the appeal of and can cause worse issues than cannabis, I hope it becomes legalised soon.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 25/06/2018 23:54

I can't be bothered with stoners. They tend to be boring and smelly.

However- I am totally on board with use of it for medicinal purposes.

Confused
GunpowderGelatine · 25/06/2018 23:56

Yes, it's gross the smell makes me heave and TBH I always view people who smoke it over the age of about 25 to be kinda scummy

IncyWincyGrownUp · 25/06/2018 23:59

The smell is horrendous, and sometimes it can trigger a headache if somebody is smoking it too close to my home.

I’d love to see medical be tested and used, but the noxious shit I smell out and about utterly obliterated.

hooochycoo · 26/06/2018 00:00

I’m not kidding myself.

For some it is harmful

For others it is harmless

For me it is totally harmless! In fact it is beneficial!

Redrunbluerun · 26/06/2018 00:03

I hate weed it ruined my brother, turned him into a paranoid anxious mess... not too mention how much it’s slowed him down (speech wise especually), horrible to witness.

GunpowderGelatine · 26/06/2018 00:06

BIL is a stoner, almost 40 and has been smoking weed daily since the age of 15.

He is unbelievably paranoid to the point he won't answer his own front door. I once went round, I worked at the time for a place where I wore a blue lanyard, and I could see him through the frosted glass, not answering the door. When I shouted it was me he answered and said "thank god I thought it was the RSPCA from your badge". I asked if he was mistreating his cat, he said no. So why would the RSPCA call. "Well you never know, people lie all the time" Hmm

He also waffles on about the health benefits of weed, of how it kills cancer cells and he'll never get cancer as a result. Yes cannabis oil has benefits, but the crap laced with god only knows what that he buys from a bloke called Skinny Ray sure as hell won't stave off cancer. He's otherwise a nice guy and weed has turned him into an absolute moron

Tootypie · 26/06/2018 00:14

I smoke weed. I know it is stupid, it is a waste of money time and energy. I am ridiculously painfully addicted. I have smoked for over 20 years. It is definitely addictive even if psychological, kills any motivation. I would love to change and do try hut it does not last long, it is so accessible now too (Time for another nc)

Although it is much more common now, I get paranoid that one of the neighbours would phone the police even smoking it at night.

hooochycoo · 26/06/2018 00:17

I can’t believe the amount of one sided crap being spouted on this thread.

So i’ll tell you about my pal John who smokes weed every day, has done for twenty years. Is a scientist for his day job, supervises phd students and does his own research in university. Very intelligent, can converse on any subject. Welllijed. And as a hobby he is a multi instrumentalist who plays on several bands.

Or my friend who works in IT, manages her department, has a lovely 21 year old daughter she’s really close too who just graduated and is going into a fab job, lots of friends and a great social life. Who smokes weed everyday.

Tootypie · 26/06/2018 00:19

hooochyoo how long have you been using Weed? Believe me it is always harmful the long term effects, from antisocial attitude to slowing you down.

Yes I fully agree with cannibas oil been legalised for medical and recreational use but green weed skunk does cause harm over time.

Tootypie · 26/06/2018 00:29

hooochyoo Can you ask you, do you find it effects you financially if you have smoked for 25 years.

I think the weed helps my creativity and relaxes me, but is it the chicken and egg, is getting my joint causing me to feel relaxed and at ease when I get it, considering I can be like a bear when I am trying to give up.

MadisonAvenue · 26/06/2018 00:53

I hate the smell, and I agree that it's becoming more common. I actually think that, in the area where I live at least, you smell it more now than cigarette smoke whilst walking around. I caught a bus today and could smell it on there and I've even smelt it at 7am while walking the dog in the woods.

HettiePeg · 26/06/2018 00:58

I’ve noticed it too and I am sick and tired of having my children breath it in when they go to the park or when next door’s teens are smoking the awful stuff

Rantymare · 26/06/2018 01:12

I don't do it, although as I suffer with chronic pain sometimes wish I could!

I actually love the smell of it though. I hate the way some people have such a 'thing' for it that it becomes their whole life, but I feel the same about alcohol in that way.

Sammyham88 · 26/06/2018 01:13

Don't see the problem with it so long, as like most things it's taken in moderation, I like the occasional joint in my own home where the smell ins't going to bother anyone else and feel it provides me with a better way of relaxation and less damage to my health than say a few glasses of wine on a night. It's all about consideration isn't it?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/06/2018 01:38

YABU, its a personal choice, safer than alcohol and tobacco. Its the future, get with the program.

Hastag0417 · 26/06/2018 02:01

My blood boils when I hear how it’s less harmful than cigs/booze blah, blah, blah.. when you’ve had a relative so addicted (who swore it wasn’t addictive) get so paranoid he couldn’t leave his bedroom or the fact he lost a circular patch of hair from the back of his head! Don’t tell me weed is anything but dangerous. Oh and god does it make the users breath stink... makes me gag!

bonnielassie1 · 26/06/2018 02:10

It is clear that everyone has different opinions depending on experience. I believe it will be legalized in the next 20 years and my boyfriend smokes everyday and leads a completely normal life. People that are already predisposed genetically to mental health problems that smoke or do any drugs tend to enhance their probability of developing mental health problems but in the same way I have family that have severe mental health problems and now physical disabilities from severe alcoholism

ItsABeatifulDayNow · 26/06/2018 02:14

I thought exactly the same today!

Very suburban cute village staying with my Ma - even she said she wants to try some "wacky baccy" when I called her attention to the two separate times weed scent was in the air. I think she still thinks it's what ALL incense smells like thanks to my brothers many quick thinking answers in our teen years. Clever bastard.

Not gonna lie, they must have the good shit in the burbs because the smell was shweeeeet!

ProudAunty2nine · 26/06/2018 02:15

I HATE IT -the smell of it, the existence of it, the fact that I cannot have my windows open because the smell is constantly invading my house and I do not see why I should have to sit sealed in my own home because other thoughtless people have a disgusting smelly and lets not forget illegal habits VILE VILE VILE!

ItsABeatifulDayNow · 26/06/2018 02:17

Ps I hate the smell of regular cigarette smoke personally, perhaps from growing up in a smoking house which made me very anti. But totally different reaction to weed for me - though sympathise with those who get the icky for that smell - each to their own and agree ideally nobody would inflict smoke of any kind in other people's personal space as far as possible!
