Most people I know haven't had a holiday in years

OP posts:
Fishcakey · 31/05/2018 21:56

We go camping a lot but haven't had a 'proper' holiday in years.

MoistCantaloupe · 31/05/2018 21:57

Oooo can’t wait to read all about who has the most!

isseywithcats · 31/05/2018 21:58

Main two weeks holiday once a year , two full weekend motorbike rallys a year thats it all we can do as OH is a lecturer and they dont get the full 13 weeks set holidays like teachers, and due to my work some of his holidays clash with weeks i cant take off

Smarshian · 31/05/2018 21:58

Last few years once maybe twice a year. Before that loads! Had a couple of qlorious years of 4-5 holidays. That was pre babies.

Bigpizzalover · 31/05/2018 22:00

Once a year abroad (usually Spain or Greece nowhere really exotic) and then 2/3 long weekends somewhere cheap and cheerful in the UK (usually Filey/Scarborough/Blackpool or some other seaside town)

CurlsandCurves · 31/05/2018 22:02

We didn’t have a holiday for many years but we’ve been in the position to have a 2 week holiday abroad every year for about 5 years now.

Relative to our income it’s a lot to spend, but it’s the only thing we spend on.

hidinginthenightgarden · 31/05/2018 22:02

Usually once or twice but they are always in the UK. Have only been abroad twice in the last 7 years and inlaws paid for and came along for both.

PNGirl · 31/05/2018 22:02

Twice a year but no more than a week at a time. This year we will have had a week in Boston and a few days in Cornwall. Last year we went to the New Forest and Prague. Year before was Vienna and Amsterdam.

BackforGood · 31/05/2018 22:02

What are you counting as holidays?

BitchQueen90 · 31/05/2018 22:04

One long haul abroad, one short haul abroad although no long haul this year as I am taking DS to Lapland in December for 4 nights and that's costing me more than an all inclusive week in the Med.

Few days in Butlins as well plus a couple of weekends in the UK and Europe. We're lucky that a close family member owns a caravan by the coast so we can stay there for free.

I'm not well off but I love holidays and look for deals. I know plenty of people who earn more than me who go on less holidays but they have more children/higher outgoings etc.

RatOnnaStick · 31/05/2018 22:05

Most years we manage a couple of long weekends. Last bigger trip was 2009.

Bitlost · 31/05/2018 22:05

Twice a year. Usually two weeks abroad in summer (in Greece mainly where we rent a small flat from a friend at £50a day.) Then a week at my parents in France (so free).

CurlsandCurves · 31/05/2018 22:05

@Smarshian oh, the pre kid days of disposable income!

2 of us, full time jobs, holidays and weekends away all over the place!

stopgap · 31/05/2018 22:06

Three times a year. I’m an ex-pat in the US:

February we go to the Caribbean.
April we travel somewhere in the US that’s within a five-hour drive.
August we go to England and then somewhere in Europe.

I grew up taking caravan holidays to Wales or Devon, and they were seriously lovely and fun. My husband is the one fanatical about high-end travel.

TheShapeOfEwe · 31/05/2018 22:07

we usually go abroad 2 or 3 times a year - one long weekend somewhere in Europe then a couple of longer holidays (usually still in Europe) and then every couple of years we'll go somewhere a bit more exotic. No kids though which makes it easier!

EatRepeatEatRepeat · 31/05/2018 22:08

One really good holiday abroad every year which we save up for.
We also visit friends for mini breaks in school holidays but always in the UK. Normally a few weddings or family weekends away as well which don’t feel like a holiday but still time away as a family.

itssquidstella · 31/05/2018 22:09

Probably around six. One long haul, two or three short haul. Sometimes a ski trip. Then a few in the UK.

In the last twelve months I've been to Africa twice, the Lakes twice, Snowdonia, the Cairngorms and Italy. Going to Spain twice this summer, then Norway later in the year.

Metoodear · 31/05/2018 22:10

I’m camping is a holiday just to let you all know

We go about 5 times a year but we have a tent go France ect loads

Aroundtheworldandback · 31/05/2018 22:11

Usually 2-3 times but we are taking a year out to travel while our kids are at uni and our parents are thank gd still healthy

Heroo · 31/05/2018 22:12

All the time.

I have 25 days standard plus I ‘buy’ amother 10 and use them almost all to go away.

Skiing. More skiing. Abroad weddings. Long weekend city breaks. Summer holidays. Uk camping. Long haul sunshine.

Not enough days!

lakehouse · 31/05/2018 22:12

Every month if I can. Every 2 months max.

VanessaShanessaJenkins · 31/05/2018 22:12

1 trip abroad (within Europe) for a week or less plus a few camping weekends.

That's what we've done the last 4 years anyway.

I was really surprised at the amount of holidays, especially abroad that people said they go on in another similar thread recently.

ForalltheSaints · 31/05/2018 22:13

Three or four a year, some of which are to relatives abroad.

theWarOnPeace · 31/05/2018 22:15

If you’re including weekends away in the U.K. then about x10 times a year at least. 1x long haul, couple of European holidays, weekends here and there in the U.K., week in Wales, lots of cheap city breaks in Europe. We spend tonnes of money on travel, it’s our biggest extravagance although I should say we are very sure to get mega cheap deals. I’ll book those Ryanair flights you see that are £20 way in advance and have something to look forward to, we take the car to France on a deal etc etc

Nannewnannew · 31/05/2018 22:16

Last holiday I had was a week in Norfolk 10 years ago! ☹️
