I think my friend should pay, she thinks we should split it?

Driving a friend 4 hours away for an operation (cosmetic) and will use 2 full tanks of fuel in my car, cost of a hotel, food while I'm there and I'm using a days annual leave.
She wants to split all costs down the middle, whereas I think I'm using my holiday entitlement and 2 days of my time (which I am more than happy to give up) but don't think I should be paying for fuel, or for the hotel? I've said I'll pay for all my own food.
Her logic is we're both going so why should only she pay, she's already paying lots for surgery.
My logic is I wouldn't be going if it wasn't to do her a favour so don't see it fair to split costs.
Whats the right thing to do here? Don't want to be mean but trying to be fair...

Yep, she's stupid enough to think she can scare you.

I'd be tempted to reply back saying 'I look forward to hearing from your lawyer, and only your lawyer'.

BMW6 · 09/05/2018 23:26

Don't worry OP she is just totally batshit. Thank God she;s out of your life.

FaithEverPresent · 09/05/2018 23:26

I would be tempted to send sarcastic replies but I think the most sensible thing would just be to block her.

FaithEverPresent · 09/05/2018 23:27

Ooh actually send Dobby’s reply! Then block her!

TheCraicDealer · 09/05/2018 23:27

Oh fuck off! She might have some basis if you'd ever agreed to pay your half but you never did. There was never any agreement to renege on. She told you her expectations, you told her yours were different, she wouldn't budge and that was that. End of.

I'd text her back and say "ok chick, pls send anything to [address] x" but that's me Grin

JollyDay · 09/05/2018 23:30

I wouldn't block her. She sounds unhinged and even if I didn't reply, I'd want to know what poison she's spewing.

Just in case bunny boiler springs to mind!

alibongo5 · 09/05/2018 23:30

I don't often comment on here - but she is unbelievable and cannot expect that someone pulling out of offering a lift to an appointment - whatever the circumstances - could be a sue-able offence! Even without the back story of expecting you to pay for the privilege! But it must be really upsetting for you.

Rosielily · 09/05/2018 23:32

Where did she get her legal advice from, I wonder? The Kangaroo Court that is Facebook?!

Wowzel · 09/05/2018 23:33

I don't understand why she doesn't just hire someone to chaperone her rather than lose all the money

spatchcock · 09/05/2018 23:34

Haha, this is brilliant! I love how she has "lawyers" plural.

insomuchpain · 09/05/2018 23:34

Oh my god please send her Facebook link I want to see this in real life I'm beyond gobsmacked at this girl.

She would be laughed out of court!

Idiot

Dobby1sAFreeElf · 09/05/2018 23:35

Hang on
You've just checked out that she needed a chaperone. But initially she said she was going to use public transport.
Shes misrepresented herself there.
She can't make your drop out an issue when she had told you her surgery wasn't contingent on it.

LegallyBrunet · 09/05/2018 23:36

Is anyone else wondering where she got “legal advice” at this time of night? Also this was a social agreement, not a contract so I’m not sure what she can even sue you for?

Eggzandbacon · 09/05/2018 23:36

I’m gobsmacked (and this is why I love MN)

Aurea · 09/05/2018 23:37

She's poison.
You're kind.

Take a deep breath, laugh and put her out of your mind and your life.

Welshgal1 · 09/05/2018 23:37

@Dobby1sAFreeElf Think the whole public transport was just a line to guilt trip me into agreeing.. which worked until all of this bullshit!

midnightmisssuki · 09/05/2018 23:38

She sounds insane. Confused

movinonup · 09/05/2018 23:39

Get your friend to link this thread on her facebook page!
Or get all of us to add her as a friend and we'll gladly do it.

Welshgal1 · 09/05/2018 23:39

As far as I can tell her legal advice was a Facebook status and her 'lawyers' are the idiots commenting saying "sue the bitch!"

RuggerHug · 09/05/2018 23:43

Oh I love how she keeps digging...OP let her!

MyKingdomForBrie · 09/05/2018 23:45

How are you resisting having someone post the real story on FB?! I’m all for remaining dignified but this has just gone too far!

TheKarateKitty · 09/05/2018 23:48

Today 23:37 Welshgal1

@Dobby1sAFreeElf Think the whole public transport was just a line to guilt trip me into agreeing.. which worked until all of this bullshit!

That was my suspicion after reading your initial posts. It really did come across as, “well, I’d have to take public transportation and it’s going to be tricky,” and knowing your good nature, she left that open for you to feel bad for her and say yes when she asked you to take her.

Send her this meme. Or simply: 🖕🏼

I think my friend should pay, she thinks we should split it?
SteveMcGarrettsBudgieSmugglers · 09/05/2018 23:49

this is one you really hope the DM uses

can you reply looking forward to meeting Judge Rinder

Cornishclio · 09/05/2018 23:52

This is ridiculous. Originally she says she is using public transport and emotionally blackmails you into offering to take her. No contract to renege on so goodness only knows why she is talking about lawyers except she clearly is trying to scare you. Don't fold. She would be laughed out of Court. Also she said she is borrowing the money so hardly hard earned as she hasn't paid it off. Whatever she is an idiot and she has clearly blocked you so you can't give your side of the story. Maybe some of the Facebook sympathisers can take her Hmm

loulou987 · 10/05/2018 00:03
