To think Jamie Oliver shouldn't be so smug about getting artificial sweeteners in ribena

He's calling it beautiful that the sugar tax that he campaigned and persuaded the government to implement "a beautiful thing" as ribeana has half the sugar now. But it's still just as sweet as it's been replaced with artifical sweeteners so don't see how its improving anything, could be making it woorse.

I agree, less sugar so more teeth, and more ibs type issues from the lazy bowels as result of the sweeteners.

ValleyClouds · 01/05/2018 22:28

Ribena has been ruined now, see also Lucozade.

Fair enough make it more expensive but at least let people decide what they want

It might put Ribenas sales in serious decline not because it's too exspensive but because it tastes shite

carefreeeee · 01/05/2018 22:29

I agree - the sweeteners are probably worse for you than the sugar

Oblomov18 · 01/05/2018 22:31

I don't rate sweeteners. As a diabetic I have been aware of them - in diabetic chocolate for eg, for over 30 years and am not impressed.
I am concerned at what saccharin, aspartame etc, do.
I am not convinced by his strategy.

InanimateCarbonRod · 01/05/2018 22:31

Anything that reduces the consumption of sugar is welcome. It's responsible for so many chronic diseases it's unbelievable we've been told to consume it at all.

We're all addicted to sugar.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/05/2018 22:41

Less natural ingredients more chemicals, Yeah. Jamie Oliver is a twat.

jnfrrss · 01/05/2018 22:42

How can it be welcome when it's replaced with something that has just as many health concerns? Could be very dangerous as people consume more then it turns out AS are woorse than sugar.

Ribena is shit now.

SneakyGremlins · 01/05/2018 22:43

This is someone who named his child after a salad..

RomeoBunny · 01/05/2018 22:48

Why couldn't they as a manufacturer just reduce the sugar gradually so the county's pallette adjusts. Or make a smaller bottle. Why do they have to replace it with shit sweeteners. I don't drink much but coffee and water anyway. But every few weeks in summer an ice cold fizzy drink is lovely. IRN BRU is now fucking ruined too when they should have just done what coke did. Kept the recipe and charged more for less but same good product when you want it.

No, that's just his kids names

RunMummyRun68 · 01/05/2018 22:53

Thing is it's only us that will remember how things 'used to taste'

The future generations won't have a clue, and it's those who we are trying to protect..... us lot are a lost cause now, our generation is fucked!

whiteroseredrose · 01/05/2018 22:56

San Pellegrino and Fever Tree too.... Boo hoo!

SneakyGremlins · 01/05/2018 22:57

whiterose THE LEMONADE???

myrtleWilson · 01/05/2018 22:58

I think he and HFW had some interesting ideas at the health select committee hearing today - principally that we should treat child obesity/child health inequality as a national issue - rather than just seeing it as part of the DoH - so there should be an expectation of DofE to look at how Ofsted look at health education, that MHCLG needs to think about planning and child health, that DCMS needs to think about maximising child health opportunities but also consider impact of advertising.
Am not suggesting that only JO or HFW are saying these things but we do need to take a holistic view to childhood health, childhood health inequality.

lavendargreen · 01/05/2018 23:03

OP posts:
lavendargreen · 01/05/2018 23:04

His kids have names that you would call pets FFS! (Rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, and cats!)

peoplearemean · 01/05/2018 23:05

Can't bear him and his fat tongue. Great let's put carcinogenic in food instead. Well done Jamie.

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 01/05/2018 23:08

I thought artificial sweeteners had been proven to raise blood sugar? Will look for a link.

JaneJeffer · 01/05/2018 23:08

Why can't they make Ribena with no sweeteners and then you could add your own sugar to taste?

Rawhh · 01/05/2018 23:09

My chronic condition is exacerbated by aspartamine. Every month more and more foods are off limits because of the sugar phobia plaguing the country.

As an Obese person - the cause of my obesity isn't the can of soda I have once a week.

There is good evidence to suggest it is the appetite exacerbating chemicals in food that are increasing obesity so why the fuck encourage more foods to be filled with chemicals.
