I knew i'd 'made it' in life when

i realised 90% of the plant pots in my house/garden are terracotta, not plastic. I used to dream of this and have added to my collection year on year. I now feel immense pride in the quality of my plant pots! AIBU to ask what small/insignificant things signify to you that you too have made it in life? (Not interested in metal cans on wheels/dwelling structures made of bricks or stone/jewellery/trophy partners Grin).

None of my mugs came free. No Easter egg ones, niche industry marketing ones, or those that I'd had from home to take to college.

Yumyumpigs · 30/04/2018 21:14

Not sure if it's quite the same but I felt really grown up when I bought a butter dish 😊

Polkadot1974 · 30/04/2018 21:16

Not that I’d made it so much but when I bought posh moisturiser

LockedOutOfMN · 30/04/2018 21:17

When I gave up getting flights at 5am. (And worked out the taxi there cost more than the reasonably timed flight that I could reach by train Blush ).

GrannyGrissle · 30/04/2018 21:17

Haha! Love these!

My DD wanted up on my knee for comfort at toddler group today. 16 months. I felt like a real Mum for probably the first timeGrin

Trialsmum · 30/04/2018 21:18

I shopped online at Ocado instead of going to ALDI 😂

ForgivenessIsDivine · 30/04/2018 21:21

I bought a shed. (Well it was one of those small garden boxes to have in the space behind out back door in the tiny ground floor flat we owned)

ButEmilylovedhim · 30/04/2018 21:21

When I bought a gravy boat, only a true grown up would own a gravy boat. But.. I couldn't lay my hands on it to use on Christmas Day sooo it's a work in progress!

MadMaryBoddington · 30/04/2018 21:23

My very own compost heap. I’d dreamed of that moment.

Timeforabiscuit · 30/04/2018 21:24

Everything in the living room were items that were chosen because we liked them, not just because its functional and what we could get hold of.

And coasters.

Galacticat · 30/04/2018 21:26

A matching dinner service I bought last year at the grand age of 47. I've finally grown up!

Bluelady · 30/04/2018 21:26

I bought made to measure lined curtains.

DrWhy · 30/04/2018 21:27

Right now, my greenhouse is in the process of being built, then I will be a proper grown up. I’m nearly there already, I only have 2 types of crockery now so most days we have a fully matching set.

User5trillion · 30/04/2018 21:27

When I decorated and bought all new matching photo frames in one go, rather than bit by bit. (Still cheap ones mindGrin)

Sevendown · 30/04/2018 21:28

Matching bath towels

mammmamia · 30/04/2018 21:28

Feeling bad about my mug drawer Blush

harriethoyle · 30/04/2018 21:29

When I could afford to buy individual cans of tonic as opposed to the big bottles which go flat if you don't use it all in one go... It's the little things!!

ProseccoPoppy · 30/04/2018 21:29

We had enough chairs (needed 8 plus a high chair) to host the whole family at Christmas, none of them were deckchairs and six of them actually matched.

Buying a proper cut glass cake stand. Had wanted one for years!

FittonTower · 30/04/2018 21:31

I just got back from a weekend away with friends. Sun, booze, no kids etc. We had an early-ish flight home so I didn't drink (much) on the night before the flight and went to bed at a reasonable time. I felt like a proper grown up (and fresh) on that flight.

Therunecaster · 30/04/2018 21:31

When all of the kids could wipe their own bottoms....and wash their hands.

Bitchywaitress · 30/04/2018 21:31

When I discovered my napkins have a hierarchy!

Best, 2nd best, just Us, and takeaway.

ItchySeveredFoot · 30/04/2018 21:31

Forgiveness we've just bought our first shed and it was eye wateringly expensive! I don't think I've made it yet. I think like a pp it'll be when all my furniture was bought because I liked it.

StormcloakNord · 30/04/2018 21:32

I realised I'd made it when I bought a toolbox.

An actual toolbox for my few screwdrivers and random Allen keys. They're all in one place now rather than dotted about it drawers.

I'm basically a joiner now.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 30/04/2018 21:32

Buying curtains in John Lewis for our first house. They were £400 and I was so thrilled to be so grown up I didn't even mind the cost.

The cat ripped them to shit within 18 months but hey ho.
