I knew i'd 'made it' in life when

i realised 90% of the plant pots in my house/garden are terracotta, not plastic. I used to dream of this and have added to my collection year on year. I now feel immense pride in the quality of my plant pots! AIBU to ask what small/insignificant things signify to you that you too have made it in life? (Not interested in metal cans on wheels/dwelling structures made of bricks or stone/jewellery/trophy partners Grin).

I could buy pre-prepared salads or fruit pots for lunch when travelling for work without feeling guilty.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 30/04/2018 22:05

When it was pissing it down and I was happy
"it's good for the garden" I said
OH MY GOD I AM A GROWN UP

hedgebackwards · 30/04/2018 22:05

Being genuinely delighted when MIL bought me a set of saucepans for my birthday Grin

Gouldengirl9 · 30/04/2018 22:06

After reading these comments I've still not made it in life xx

HolyShmoly · 30/04/2018 22:06

I also think I got a 'Mum-update' software patch yesterday as part of the pregnancy lark. I told DH that I didn't want a big bar of chocolate, just wanted a wee taste. I even cut a boost in half to share with DH. But then ate it all myself...

My mum would have half a biscuit cause she didn't want a full one, just a taste. And just leave it there till she wanted the other half!

LemonysSnicket · 30/04/2018 22:07

I made a spreadsheet to plan out our holiday.

CheekyChinchilla · 30/04/2018 22:07

Not yet ‘made it’ in life, but I felt grown up when I bought a gorgeous, horribly expensive silk throw in Laura Ashley. For the spare room. Also when I bought a huge pre-lit Christmas tree. It’s 11ft tall and so pretty.

isthistoonosy · 30/04/2018 22:08

I realised I'm happy.

I'm not hoping for something or wishing for something.

SweetheartNeckline · 30/04/2018 22:08

Went on a Beaver hike and implored the children to "just listen quietly and enjoy the view", and realised I meant it sincerely. Maybe I've found the elusive "pleasure in the little things"...

Hoppinggreen · 30/04/2018 22:09

When I arrived at an airport and a smart man in a suit was holding a sign with my name on.
Ok, I had booked and paid for it myself but even so

Bluefargo · 30/04/2018 22:11

I had some money in my current account when payday came round!

AveAtqueVale · 30/04/2018 22:12

Not so much financially but I feel like I’ve made it as a grown-up because we’re getting a kitten on Saturday. Somehow, the realisation that I can get a pet just because I fancy it (and in the teeth of my mother’s disapproval) makes me feel far more adult than marriage or two children have so far...

SundayShawl · 30/04/2018 22:14

Slowly building a set of matching Denby crockery... And being ridiculously happy with each new part I buy Grin

Oh and getting one of those spiky tray things for carving a roast!

Echobelly · 30/04/2018 22:16

Never thought about this. Maybe doing a load of building works and getting our place laid out how we want. I've never even cared afterwards how much it cost, I'm just really happy we did it and did something a little bit different to anything else round here.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/04/2018 22:19

When we bought a new tv, just because we fancied an upgrade not because the old one had packed up. And recently, getting stupidly excited about buying a cast iron Denby casserole dish - it's so extravagant but I love it.

Figmentofimagination · 30/04/2018 22:19

LemonysSnicket - I'll second that one. I loved creating my holiday spreadsheet, it was colour coordinated as well!

When my Christmas tree was full on lovely Christmas decorations, with some having special meanings to them, instead of the cheap ones I bought when I first moved in with DH from Tesco and Asda. And the fact that my tree is a lovely tree that I picked out, and not a cheap sale one from Tesco's with a branch missing.

Also when I bought new sofas picked out all by myself (and measured lots to ensure they fitted perfectly) and donated the hideous hand me down green leather sofas to charity.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 30/04/2018 22:20

sundayshawl I'm with you on both those things, we are doing the same. I bought a carving tray about 5 years ago though, my mum has always had one and I couldn't find one but finally got it in a hardware shop in Cornwall!

TooSassy · 30/04/2018 22:22

Proper alcohol was my moment. Moving from having just a bottle of cheap nasty vodka stashed in the freezer. It hit me when one of my girlfriends popped over without much notice and I was able to whip up porn star martinis in a flash. Proper grown up, me!

hangry · 30/04/2018 22:24

ah when i bought my wood turning lathe. wanted one for decades. had to move into a house with room for a dedicated a workroom first though, that took some time.

but now i have it and i can stick a chisel into a spinning lump of wood any time i like :)

ghostyslovesheets · 30/04/2018 22:25

I got a drill for Christmas - and not only did I not start a thread about it (moaning) I actually asked for it !

and I purchased wine that cost more than £5!

Keeptrudging · 30/04/2018 22:26

When I was able to sleep through the night pretty much every night after a lifetime of disrupted sleep. I have hyper-sensitive hearing, DH's (mild) snoring blocks out all the tiny noises which used to keep me awake, I can finally sleep properly. I'm never leaving him Grin

londonrach · 30/04/2018 22:27

Drwhy...you have matching crockery...very posh. Think ds still has half her uni days set, ive half my uni days, weve donated plates from family snd the odd bit ive bought if we smashed a plate etc o one down. One day i be grown up and they match.

Dh and i were given a dish washer at our request for xmas from all the family members who clubbed together to get it. I made it then...my own dishwasher!

ThreeJoeys · 30/04/2018 22:27

When I wouldn't consider buying 300 thread count beddings! Nothing less than 600 for me now.

plominoagain · 30/04/2018 22:30

When I was the final arbiter in the decision of whether to get another dog or not - instead of the kid pleading “ perleeese , I’ll walk him every day “

Not that I’ve changed mind you , these days no waif or stray gets turned away !

Student loans could actually ask me to repay my loan.
