i realised 90% of the plant pots in my house/garden are terracotta, not plastic. I used to dream of this and have added to my collection year on year. I now feel immense pride in the quality of my plant pots! AIBU to ask what small/insignificant things signify to you that you too have made it in life? (Not interested in metal cans on wheels/dwelling structures made of bricks or stone/jewellery/trophy partners Grin).

Buying towels from the White Company with Christmas money instead of spending it on half price boots soap and glory/lush box sets and viz annuals

SandAndSea · 30/04/2018 23:28

When I arranged my towels in my own towel cupboard for the first time, knowing I would never again have to wait for my mum to find me a lost, old, mis-matched, scratchy towel ever again. (As much as I love her, her towel organisation leaves a lot to be desired.)

Neverender · 30/04/2018 23:31

We bought a king size mattress and then lay in it drinking tea from our actual mugs (that we bought) and then had dippy eggs and soldiers. (We'deven bought the egg cups)!!! Wowzers!

Neverender · 30/04/2018 23:32

I need a mug draw ijustneedtochangenames !!!

Loonoon · 30/04/2018 23:43

When I could buy the good quality Costco disposable (and recyclable) kitchen towel rolls instead of washing and reusing crappy, non absorbent j cloths from Tesco. It still makes me feel rich and successful.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 30/04/2018 23:46

Turning left when getting on planes. I would never say that out loud in RL but I spent years wondering what it was like on the other side of the curtain.

Defender90 · 30/04/2018 23:47

I always dreamt of having a hot hatch car of our own and a manly pick up type run around for him.

I still remember looking out the window at our sporty corolla and his clapped out but looking decent for the money 306 thinking, that's it, you've done it. You've bagged yourself a boy racer.

Oh youth.

hungryhungryhippo8 · 30/04/2018 23:50

When I finally passed my God damn driving test and was allowed to join the grown up mums! 😂

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 30/04/2018 23:53

When I stopped caring about what people, especially men, thought of me and started to say what I actually thought and felt. I'm not cruel or insensitive but by god the years I'd kept my opinions to myself to keep the peace or stroke other people's egos. What a waste of time and life.

BlooBagoo · 30/04/2018 23:54

When I was able to book multiple beauty treatments by what I wanted to have rather than only what I could afford or whatever was most necessary.

HabituallyOptimistic · 01/05/2018 00:09

When my feral rescue dog flopped against me for a cuddle. It took two years for her to trust me enough to do that.
I've got a mortgage in my own name, a good job and have a flat that doesn't have Ikea furniture in it anymore. But it was that moment when a previously-terrified-of-the-world animal showed me she trusted me that I knew I had done something right.

YoThePussy · 01/05/2018 00:14

Visiting an art exhibition which an ex colleague was exhibiting at. Chatted to him for a while then told him it wasn’t just a social visit, I wanted to buy one of his pictures. I did and it is beautiful.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 01/05/2018 00:18

Liquid soap

I've probably not really made it yet have I?

SapphireSeptember · 01/05/2018 00:28

Last year, when I paid for a ticket to see my favourite band, booked and paid for a hotel room to stay overnight in London, and did all of it by myself. I felt like a proper grown up!

Also buying (what I consider) posh make up. Still love Makeup Revolution, but I've acquired a lot of MAC, Smashbox and Urban Decay over the past year and I love it!

Ankhesenamun · 01/05/2018 00:43

When I bought special spoons for ice cream (they look like mini shovels)

groovergirl · 01/05/2018 00:46

Having a good winter coat, good underwear (not the sexy frillies, just the comfortable, well-made everyday undies with sturdy elastic) and as many tampons as Her Vagesty might require for the next month or two!

Bexter801 · 01/05/2018 01:17

Matching, properly fitted underwear Smile Don't know how it's taken me so long to obtain these,or realise how much better I feel/look in them

SaltyPeanut · 01/05/2018 01:26

I wanted 6 foot long slatted wood shelving for my pots and pans.
I wanted a white wood coffee table.
I wanted a high table/workbench for my kitchen.
Could find none of these things without paying hundreds to have them built to order.

I bought a compound mitre saw, a mouse sander, a drill and an electric screwdriver and built them myself for less than £300 pounds including the tools. Also upcycled a shelving unit, made more shelves, a letter rack and a fancy coat rail.

Feel all grown up that despite never touching a plank of wood before I saw the projects through instead of giving up when things got tricky.

NotTheFordType · 01/05/2018 01:56

I don't know about "made it" but the first time I thought I was a proper grown up was when I went to the supermarket and put the bags of shopping in the boot rather than the passenger seat

I reckon I will hit "made it" status when I finally buy that £70 candle in John Lewis without internal recriminations.

YouCantGetHereFromThere · 01/05/2018 03:08

When I put my house up for sale, and my parents considered buying it.

Hideandgo · 01/05/2018 03:19

I have a glass display cabinate for my Crystal and silverware.

WTF!

Kursk · 01/05/2018 03:48

When I cooked a Sunday roast chicken and the entire meal came from the back garden. Sat next to the fire burning with wood that we cut and split.

The moment that I knew we could look after ourselves.

Bexter801 · 01/05/2018 04:07

Oh @kursk,that sounds heavenly Smile

Bexter801 · 01/05/2018 04:09

I'm very open to dinner invites, just sayingHmm

SundayShawl · 01/05/2018 06:54

AndNone - I couldn't find one anywhere and in the end my mum got it for me as a birthday present.

Chickoletta - we have one of those kettles. MIL has one and I loved itBlush

Just thought of another thing - one of those big enamelled casserole dishes like Le Creuset but not. Now I can do all those dishes in the recipe books where you start it on the hob and put it in the oven to finish off (without changing pans)
