i realised 90% of the plant pots in my house/garden are terracotta, not plastic. I used to dream of this and have added to my collection year on year. I now feel immense pride in the quality of my plant pots! AIBU to ask what small/insignificant things signify to you that you too have made it in life? (Not interested in metal cans on wheels/dwelling structures made of bricks or stone/jewellery/trophy partners Grin).

Buying coloured bras. And not just because I had a specific dress I needed to match but just because I wanted them.

My Mum pretty much felt that all your bras should be white, with the possible exception of one black bra. Grin

I was in a department store one day in my early 20s and thinking “I wish I could have nice coloured lingerie like that” when it occurred to me that I could.

I haven’t bought a white bra since. Grin

Having nice flowers in the garden and bird feeders. Not fancy or anything, but I grew them.

Bellabutterfly2016 · 30/04/2018 21:35

We had lovely fitted wardrobes put in and I ordered wooden coat hangers - not a plastic one in sight!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 30/04/2018 21:35

I'm basically a joiner now.

Grin
moofeatures · 30/04/2018 21:36

A) buying a fruit bowl
B) actually eating the fruit contained within it!! Grin

dayinlifeof · 30/04/2018 21:36

I'm told that a woman has made it when they have got to management and when she earns a lot of money and works a lot of hours.

I think a person has made it when they are happy with their life regardless of status, money or keeping up with the Jones.

CaptainCarp · 30/04/2018 21:38

When I bought a dining table Grin I can actually have people over for dinner.

MothQuandary · 30/04/2018 21:39

StopPOP · 30/04/2018 21:41

I think any time somebody buys/receives/uses their own gravy boat is a pretty seminal moment Grin

PoorYorick · 30/04/2018 21:41

Someone recently posted a Facebook meme (yes, I know) about their life ambitions (the point was that it was fairly modest but involved rewarding work, a nice relationship and enough money without needing to be utterly loaded), and it was a perfect description of my life.

NorksAreMessy · 30/04/2018 21:42

I am very old añd have JUST bough planters for the back yard and they all match each other, rather than a collection of assorted odds, sods and donations.
This s RIDICULOUSLY extravagant and so lovely

Angie169 · 30/04/2018 21:43

ohtheholidays · 30/04/2018 21:43

DH didn’t understand at all. Grin

MinnieMinchkin · 30/04/2018 21:44

I have a gravy boat but no butter dish...

Hepzibar · 30/04/2018 21:45

MithQuandary it's a design fault. It happens Smile

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/04/2018 21:45

Not made it as such but I realised I was either a) a grown up or
b) a sad bastard when I got excited about a new vacuum cleaner.

AllyMcBeagle · 30/04/2018 21:45

We're not there yet but DH says that he will feel like he has made it in life if we get one of those stair carpets that don't go all the way to the edge (ie a runner).

We're sticking with the ugly red carpets that came with the house for the time being, but one day...

ellsbells2 · 30/04/2018 21:46

I was ridiculously happy when I bought Le Creuset saucepans and stoneware.

I was convinced I would turn into Nigella overnight - didn't happen!

They are lovely though.

Onlyforthedogposts · 30/04/2018 21:46

We have just moved house and all of the following have therefore recently occurred, I'm mid-forties....

We bought a dining table that wasn't from Ikea or second hand off eBay. And cutlery that wasn't from Ikea. And bedroom furniture not from Ikea...I think you can tell where I'm going with this Grin.

I've also just potted my first ever tree to go outside the front door in a naice pot, which feels very fancy and like something a proper grown up would do.
