For being peed off that shop assistant made dd say thank you beofre giving her her sweets

Hi All

I really would like to know if IABU or not, so dd is not yet two and only just started talking. She can say thank you (well she says cue but we know what she means .

We went to the shop today for her treat as she has done really well with her potty training this week and we promised her a little choccy bar. We walked down and when I let her choose she was so excited, picked one and we went to the till. The shop was packed so she had been holding it for about 5 mins before we got to the till then I took it of her for the lady to scan and dd had a small winge.

The shop lady then says to dd loudly "well if your going to be like that your not having it back until you say thank you" whilst holding it out to dd? I said she doesnt talk actually and dd is quite shy around strangers so I knew she wouldn't. The shop assistant just looked at dd and said "well are you going to say thank you" dd is now hiding in my legs looking at me really upset. I said to the woman look she isn't going to say thank you and she said "oh i'm not sure you really deserve this then" before handing it over to me.

I think the reason i'm upset is because dd was so excited as she hardly gets sweets/choccy at all and I really thought this witch had spoilt it and made it look like dd had no manners to everyone else in the shop.

Please tell me if i'm just being hormonal or if this woman is actually mad?

Just imagine, if the working classes all end up dying of fatness, who will staff Waitrose and honour all the Occado deliveries?

The middle classes will be screwed.

ScottishMummy · 12/05/2007 20:28

Jennylee · 12/05/2007 20:29

twobabies the woman was actually mad and patronising you. It is up to you what you give your child. And unlike others I am not going to judge you over giving your child a chocolate bar, it was a chocolate bar for goodness sakes! not a bloody grenade

madoldcatlady · 12/05/2007 20:34

What class would I be then? Mum was a teacher, Dad a Prison Govenor. DH is a radiographer and I'm a SAHM (although I did train as a nurse).

I fear then I too may be a little superior to you lot!

The class system is a load of old toss. The only ones who actually give a damn are those at the top of the tree anyway.

Jennylee · 12/05/2007 20:35

Xenia do you have any faults? as if not I have always wanted to meet a real live Saint/superior being, maybe we could all study you and learn to live perfect faultless lives, in an upper class dream...

twobabies · 12/05/2007 20:36

Xenia you want to know why breastfeeding rates are so long among the working class? well I can't speak for all of us but my experience is that snobby hv, gp's take one look at you and make presumptions about you and don't bother to open up the discussion re breastfeeding.

On meeting my midwife for my booking in appointment

"and can you tell me when your last period was twobabies"

"no because I am still bfing so its all over the place" looooooonnnnggg pause,

"oh thats um unusual, why are you doing that then"

I wouldn't of thought that it was anything to do with class at all until she added

"when the babies born you might want to use this health clinic instead of the local one" why says I

"well you might um fit in um a bit better"
I should say that I have just moved to a council area. I don't think she was trying to be unkind but the health professionals seem to have very preconcieved ideas about who will and wont breastfeed and that can't be helping anything.

madoldcatlady · 12/05/2007 20:37

Oh and I breast fed for 3 years. Does that score me points?
