Hi All

I really would like to know if IABU or not, so dd is not yet two and only just started talking. She can say thank you (well she says cue but we know what she means .

We went to the shop today for her treat as she has done really well with her potty training this week and we promised her a little choccy bar. We walked down and when I let her choose she was so excited, picked one and we went to the till. The shop was packed so she had been holding it for about 5 mins before we got to the till then I took it of her for the lady to scan and dd had a small winge.

The shop lady then says to dd loudly "well if your going to be like that your not having it back until you say thank you" whilst holding it out to dd? I said she doesnt talk actually and dd is quite shy around strangers so I knew she wouldn't. The shop assistant just looked at dd and said "well are you going to say thank you" dd is now hiding in my legs looking at me really upset. I said to the woman look she isn't going to say thank you and she said "oh i'm not sure you really deserve this then" before handing it over to me.

I think the reason i'm upset is because dd was so excited as she hardly gets sweets/choccy at all and I really thought this witch had spoilt it and made it look like dd had no manners to everyone else in the shop.

Please tell me if i'm just being hormonal or if this woman is actually mad?

oh god, here we bloody go!!
Xenia can you keep your trap shut for 5 minutes about the differences between working class/middle class/WOHMs/SAHMs??

i come from a middle class family (we had ponies and everything!!Imagine!!)
AND WE WERE STILL ALLOWED SWEETS!!

You need to wake up and get off your "i am so much more superior than everybody else" stool.

Jennylee · 12/05/2007 18:23

all of them I mean - sorry obviously the fat build up in my working class brain and the pain of my rotten teeth has impeded my spelling or..it could it be my bog standard education

Flamesparrow · 12/05/2007 18:23

That was the first one that narked me... and I am obv opposed to Xenia bashing!

Jennylee · 12/05/2007 18:24

Xenia still pisses me off though. Think she is just winding people up half the time purely for pleasure.

handlemecarefully · 12/05/2007 18:28

Wot me?

Hilllary · 12/05/2007 18:29

hmm Xenia my family is full of slim healthy individuals and we all had sweets all the time! and yes we could be classed as middle class by those who wish to go down that route.

Jennylee · 12/05/2007 18:29

St George - totally agree!

What a ridiculous thing to say Xenia. Laughable in fact.

Jennylee · 12/05/2007 18:35

Xenia's never had sweets, that is why she is so sour. nananana

Rantum · 12/05/2007 18:36

I LOOOOOOVE chocolate and occasionally eat it as a treat - I have no food issues - have been more or less the same size since I was 18 (excluding pg of course). I give ds chocolate as a treat too. It is more dangerous to make some foods good and some foods bad IMO.

Furthermore, children are not fat because they get treats, they are fat when they eat what most people think of as the odd treat ALL the time. Think about it fgs!!!!

In general the working classes are fatter than the middle classes. Scottish people are much heavier than say the residents of Kensington and Chelsea and presumably the nicer bits of Edinburgh too. Obesity is very much a class issue and I wish that weren't so but I bet more middle class mothers don't give any sweets to under 2s than working class. We wouldn't have dreamt of giving an 18 month year old sweets. As they get older and meet friends etc etc things change but babies with sweets is a complete no no in most middle class homes.

2shoeswhoismshadowsnumber1fan · 12/05/2007 18:52

Xenia you are a snob

Judy1234 · 12/05/2007 18:53

Not at all. Listen and learn. Read every Government obesity table ever produced - these days the poor are fat and the rich are thin, same with issues like smoking too and breastfeeding. What we need is that it is as non U for a working class mother to give under 2s sweets as a middle class one.

still think you are a snob

SaintGeorge · 12/05/2007 18:57

Obesity has far more to do with genetics and the quality of food eaten than the occasional piece of confectionery so I think your theory is a bit crap really. As well as sickeningly snobbish.

2shoeswhoismshadowsnumber1fan · 12/05/2007 18:58

SaintGeorge i love you
