Even though sequels are hardly ever as good and an unresolved ending can be the most powerful - if you could have the original author/scriptwriter/director/cast etc - for which story would you love to know what happened next??

I'd say:

  • gone with the wind
  • to kill a mockingbird
  • dirty dancing
  • pretty woman

I wish Antonia Forest had managed to complete the next book in the Marlows' series before she died. Any other wishes for sequels pale beside that one!

CanIBuffalo · 23/03/2018 18:02

Pride and Prejudice. A proper one written by JA. In fact, I want a long series.

Misleadorlie · 23/03/2018 18:03

TKAM has a sequel!

CarolineForbes · 23/03/2018 18:03

I wish Ann Brashares wrote the follow to My Name is Memory just because it annoys me it’s been 8 years and I never found out the end

Mrsemcgregor · 23/03/2018 18:03

Misery. In fact I have Stephen King tied to a bed until he finishes it, the lazy bastard.

CarolineForbes · 23/03/2018 18:03

*follow up

FloydOnThePull · 23/03/2018 18:05

Dirty dancing 2 exists!

It is set in Havana and has Diego Luna in it (It's pretty shit)

elQuintoConyo · 23/03/2018 18:07

The Handmaid's Tale.

And I wish Atwood's Maddaddam trilogy had two more trilogy follow ups Grin i could read them until the cows come home!

RumAppleGinger · 23/03/2018 18:08

Not a book or a film but I am still pissed of there is only one series of Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip.

ElizabethDarcy88 · 23/03/2018 18:09

Another vote for a Jane Austen pride and prejudice sequel. I love Lizzy and Darcy as you can see

coldcanary · 23/03/2018 18:09

I need Hilary Mantel to finish her Wolf Hall trilogy. I know the ending isn’t exactly going to be a surprise but it’s been delayed for so long!
Plus the Handmaids Tale - she’s written the second series so I suppose Margaret Atwood has finally written the sequel but I was so frustrated when I got to the end of the book the first time I read it - all of the questions and unknowns made me really cross.

WashingMatilda · 23/03/2018 18:09

Inception!

AndSoSallyStillWaits · 23/03/2018 18:12

Gone with the wind has a sort of sequel. "Rhett Butlers People"... in which Scarlett and Rhett reconcile and Belle Watling is killed in a fire IIRC at Tara Shock

BettyBooper · 23/03/2018 18:13

The Goonies

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 23/03/2018 18:13

I would call "watchman" more a sister novel than a sequel - it's really a first draft. Utterly fascinating to see the differences between the 2.

Haha, I refuse to recognise DD2 as a film, never mind a sequel to Johnny and Baby Grin

Very keen on a JA sequel. I often like to wonder what she would have written about today with no constraints on content - would she have been more of a frightfully intelligent high end author writing literary novels or delicate comedies of manners? Or would she have been writing another Bridget jones?

Mrsemcgregor Poke him with a stick until he has written a proper sequel to The Stand. Grin

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 23/03/2018 18:15

Sally - that's a travesty of book though! And the Alexandra ripley official "sequel", "Scarlett", is just terrible. She relocated to rural Ireland to find her grandmother and manages to have sex with Rhett on a beach... just NO!!!

A Dance with Dragons

Get a shift on George!

PaddyF0dder · 23/03/2018 18:17

Event Horizon.
Superman Returns.

PaddyF0dder · 23/03/2018 18:18

Roger Rabbit.

AndSoSallyStillWaits · 23/03/2018 18:18

IanRushes I agree!! I haven't read Scarlett but just googled the synopsis. In the sequel of my own imagining she found herself and went off to conquer the world on her own terms Smile

Pixel99 · 23/03/2018 18:20

Shawshank Redemption - one of my all tome favourite films

Vitalogy · 23/03/2018 18:20

Brooklyn film to be made into a series.

strawberrypenguin · 23/03/2018 18:20

Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde - I'd love the follow up to that.

Also the end of the Game of Thrones series would be great but I really doubt we'll ever get Wind of Winter or the one after it.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 23/03/2018 18:23

Sally - the only one I'm keen to read is Alice Randall's "wind done gone", about Scarlett's half black sister (although Scarlett is never actually named and the book is called a parody) - i think that looks a lot more interesting. Much better than the over sentimental tripe that's been tried otherwise!

It's such a problematic book of course, but I still can't help but love it - and DD2 is going to be a little scarlett when she arrives, all being well!
