Even though sequels are hardly ever as good and an unresolved ending can be the most powerful - if you could have the original author/scriptwriter/director/cast etc - for which story would you love to know what happened next??

I'd say:

  • gone with the wind
  • to kill a mockingbird
  • dirty dancing
  • pretty woman

Sorry two books about three friends

mmack · 23/03/2018 20:05

Peach, I thought Scarlett was totally untrue to the characters but I hated it a bit extra because I'm Irish and the bits set in Ireland are totally unbelievable. Definitely read the other one-it's a decent book even if you're not a GWTW superfan.

The Black Stallion Returns (film not book)
Did Alex really leave the Black there? Did he visit??

lovelyjubilly · 23/03/2018 20:08

The Time Traveller's Wife.

I would like a Constantine sequel - Keanu Reeves has to be in it.

I'd also love to see a Four Weddings and a Funeral sequel - I think it would be limited but its an indulgence. I've watched that movie over a hundred times....eek

I'd love to know what became of Shirley Valentine too.

GinIsIn · 23/03/2018 20:11

Ballet Shoes - did they really grow into all the things they set out to be?

Lemons1571 · 23/03/2018 20:13

The Living and the Dead, a bbc1 series 2 years ago. No sequel to be made sadly 😔

ConstantReminder · 23/03/2018 20:14

There was as sort of Pride and Prejudice sequel ~ Death at Pemberley, written by PD James (not J Austen).

ScreamingValenta · 23/03/2018 20:16

Fenella Have you read Curtain Up and The Painted Garden (more recently published as Theatre Shoes and Movie Shoes)? They include information on the Fossils' later lives.

CalmBeforeTheWave · 23/03/2018 20:16

Yes, Titanic too here.

It sounds impossible, but all the icebergs melts and hey presto we are into Waterworld.

GinIsIn · 23/03/2018 20:21

@ScreamingValenta oooh, no I haven’t - thank you!!

Clawdy · 23/03/2018 20:22

Fenella Noel Streatfeild also talked about them in a book of short stories, but I can't remember it's name! As I remember, Petrova became a daring pilot, Posy a famous ballerina, and Pauline a film actress, but it was a long time ago when I read it!

OlennasWimple · 23/03/2018 20:23

matilda

Taxi Driver

The Piano

The Professional

Samewitches · 23/03/2018 20:26

Not a film or book but The Sopranos! I really really want to know if Tony died!
I'd never thought about it again but a PP reminded me, The Truman Show, I'd love to know what happened to him after. I strongly dislike unresolved endings Grin.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 23/03/2018 20:28

Mansfield Park... the redemption of Henry Crawford

Cactuar · 23/03/2018 20:35

The Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo - sooo much better than The Grisha Trilogy which they were a spin off to.

expatinscotland · 23/03/2018 20:41

Call Me By Your Name, the book. Does Oliver finally stop being an idiot and get back together with Elio?

PastaOfMuppets · 23/03/2018 21:02

Wind Done Gone is a bit ott - apparently Rhett had a relationship with Scarlett's half-sister, who was the spitting image of her but Scarlett never knew/realised, and the half-sister was parented by the dad and Mammy ... was a bit silly.

Laiste · 23/03/2018 21:07

The Green Mile.

Goodness knows how but i just want John Coffey to come back and be ok!! :(

UnderslungBowlingBall · 23/03/2018 21:17

Another vote for the Handmaiden's Tale. Also, maybe a bit weird but the Aeneid, the ending was such a let down.

ValleyClouds · 23/03/2018 21:25

The book that I got to the end and basically screamed BUT WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?!

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

I'm sure there are others but that one really sticks in my head.

IanRushesInadequateFlushes · 23/03/2018 21:26

Ooh fenella, you've got lots of nice reading to do!! "Curtain up" (also published as "theatre shoes") and "the painted garden" for a start and then if you google what happened to the fossils + streatfeild, you'll find the short story anthology.

But the real gem is "the whicharts", recently rereleased. That was the original adult version of "ballet shoes". After it was published, her editor told her to rewrite it as a children's book...

Enjoy :)

ScreamingValenta · 23/03/2018 21:33

Ooh, I'm now desperate to read the Whicharts, but I can't find it on sale for less than £70. Apparently a paperback is going to be released in June.

Dowser · 23/03/2018 21:36

The one with Bob Hoskins... Mona Lisa I always felt that needed a follow up

deadringer · 23/03/2018 21:48

constant there have been lots of sequels to p&p many of them much better than death comes to pemberley, but it would be amazing if Austen had written one herself. I would also love a sequel to the handmaid's tale, a new series however is the next best thing.
