'A transgender male model has been announced as the face of a new campaign aiming to challenge the stigma around periods.'

Just why?

Confused

Can you imagine a woman being the face of a campaign about testicular cancer?

The world has gone mad.

Iceweasel · 18/03/2018 08:53

He is female to male transgender, he has had periods.

TERFragetteCity · 18/03/2018 08:54

Yes, it shows that 'trans' men are [still and will always be] women. I think it is an own goal.

Booboobooboo84 · 18/03/2018 08:54

Ah so if he wants to go female to male your all ok with that and happy to deny he has periods and also happy to call them him. But if a man wants to transition to a woman your all up in arms. I get it now.

afrikat · 18/03/2018 08:54

He has experienced periods. Would you be mad if a woman who has been through the menopause was talking about them?

MorningsEleven · 18/03/2018 08:56

He went through female puberty, he had periods, which are often vastly distressing for trans guys and also a taboo subject. He's trying to remove that stigma and help other people, I wholeheartedly support him.

MargeryFenworthy · 18/03/2018 08:57

Utterly grim.

Fekko · 18/03/2018 08:57

Does this person have periods?

I may as well go and advertise terry towelling nappies (as a user) because I used to use them/poo in them - daily, multiple times a day in fact!

Rainboho · 18/03/2018 08:57

He has experienced periods, yes. But this is virtue signalling. If I were female to male transitioning I wouldn’t want to be used as a poster boy to make marketing feel they have ticked the ‘cool with that’ and ‘diversity’ box.

RNBrie · 18/03/2018 08:59

He's had periods.

I guess what fucks me off about this campaign is that its just trying to be trendy.

Let's talk about the girls missing school because they can't afford tampons. Or the fact that it takes an average of 10 years to be diagnosed with endometriosis....

Oh no. Let's not talk about the real shit that some women go through. Let's talk about the dude who had periods for a short while whilst transitioning. I get that it's a valid point of view and must have been difficult but it's not really a reflection of women's issues.

Sigh. Got everyone talking though.

OohMavis · 18/03/2018 09:02

He's female, so has periods.

But from everything I've read about transmen, in general they do not like having periods. Obviously. So to promote it seems strange when it's something they like to avoid having to confront.

SoupDragon · 18/03/2018 09:04

Do you remember doing that?

I imagine the model in the ad actually remembers the experience of periods.

Squirrelpatrol2174 · 18/03/2018 09:06

Make your mind up pal. Either you want to be a woman or a bloke.

Fekko · 18/03/2018 09:06

Actually I do! I remember being changed by my mum across her knee and her jiggling me about!

CaoNiMa · 18/03/2018 09:21

"He's female"

Statements like this bring home how bizarre and "emperor's new clothes"-ish things have become.

Eliza9917 · 18/03/2018 09:21

Exactly, that's what makes this so odd.

It's like every company has to choose the complete opposite of who they were traditionally aimed at to be their face in order to be PC. I think every make company I follow on Instagram now has a man as their main model. It's getting tiresome.

*make up company

So the model hated being a woman so much they took hormones and steps to be a man.

Why are they advertising products for periods?

Does it have anything to do with the cash they will get?

Tinycitrus · 18/03/2018 09:25

It’s just a period Hmm

Why do we need advertising campaigns about them?

Shall we start a campaign to reduce the social stigma around farting too?

OohMavis · 18/03/2018 09:28

A thin blonde woman, running through fields of lavender wearing a floaty dress. She squeaks one out, camera pans to her sunkissed face. She inhales deeply, smiles and rolls around in the lavender in ecstasy. Tagline: You smelt it, you dealt it; be you.

RedBlackberries · 18/03/2018 09:29

Doesn't bother me. She's a transman so actually a woman, so has periods. A bit try hard with the advertising but that's it.

Tinycitrus · 18/03/2018 09:29

I think you’re on to something MavisGrin

IamnotClaireVoyant · 18/03/2018 09:31

YANBU

Kenny now wants to be seen as a bloke - they are sporting a facial beard. So they don't need to be the bearded face of periods anymore than my husband does.

The whole campaign is utterly ridiculous- "taking the taboo out of periods" - there is no taboo except the one in Pink Parcel's marketing dept who want to sell those twee "tees".

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/03/2018 09:32

So the Indy article about menstruation was almost entirely about trans. I'm not actually sure what the campaign was about or what the key issues were for women who weren't trans in fact.

Pretty soon it will either be transwomen speaking for us and telling us how to be women or transmen speaking for us, or more to the point rabbiting on about trans. We are getting it from both sides and will soon end up invisible.

jay55 · 18/03/2018 09:32

I don’t know that anyone trans or not likes having periods.
