Not 50 shades, better quality. Not touching or anything. No one can see what it is as I sit eating my lunch. If anyone asks, I say ‘war and peace’. Should I save it for home?

Assuming it's text and not pictures reflecting in your glasses Alan Partridge style, YANBU. I'm sure it all adds a little frisson...!

What is it?

Glumglowworm · 08/03/2018 14:17

YANBU

just make sure there’s no heavy breathing Grin

MissionItsPossible · 08/03/2018 14:18

Well as long as you don’t get asked by a huge W&P fan who gets into a discussion with you and you accidentally say “I particularly liked the part where she used the vibrator”, I think you’ll be fine.

Goldmonday · 08/03/2018 14:20

YANBU

I have been known to read Jackie Collins in the hairdressers

Aprilmightmemynewname · 08/03/2018 14:20

As long as you can cope without a 'happy ending'..

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/03/2018 14:22

Grin good grief. If you must OP.

TheQueef · 08/03/2018 14:24

Can't you wait? Have a bit of a build up?

Shoxfordian · 08/03/2018 14:26

If it helps you get through the day....!

halfwitpicker · 08/03/2018 14:27

At work?

carryondoctor · 08/03/2018 14:27

God, imagine having the energy to do that! Don't think I've bothered with anything of the sort since I used to read "more" magazine for the position of the fortnight 😂😂

happygirly1 · 08/03/2018 14:39

I used to work with someone who would whip out (pun intended) her copy of 50 shades every lunch time. I personally thought it was a bit weird but each to their own!

Idontdowindows · 08/03/2018 14:39

Good heavens, are you that desperate?

Loonoon · 08/03/2018 14:39

I've never understood why anyone reads erotica in public places. Perhaps they are better at delayed gratification than I am!

Drivemecrazy1974 · 08/03/2018 14:40

I wonder if a man asked the same question if people would be just as OK with him reading porn at work even if it was during his lunch break?
I have no problem with erotic fiction but don't think I'd feel the need to read it at work! There's a time and a place.....

vandrew4 · 08/03/2018 14:49

yuch. YABU

GeekyWombat · 08/03/2018 14:50

I think it would depend on whether he was reading a novel or a copy of Razzle. Also if he was cracking one out or not. HTH.

CavoliRiscaldati · 08/03/2018 14:51

gross

YABU

Why would you even want to at work?

youngestisapsycho · 08/03/2018 14:53

I read 50 Shades on my kindle at work, wish I hadnt bothered!

ofshoes · 08/03/2018 14:57

I think it would depend on whether he was reading a novel or a copy of Razzle

So if he has chosen to read an erotic novel that's pretty specifically designed to turn people on and sitting at his desk with a hard on that'd be totally cool then?

I'm not really sure why anyone would want to read erotica in a room with a bunch of strangers, unless that's their kink I suppose.

Jaxhog · 08/03/2018 15:08

Sounds rather nasty tbh. Is that really what you want to read while eating lunch?

Be worth checking your company's guidelines on this. Many have rules about viewing Porn at work. You could get dismissed.

GlomOfNit · 08/03/2018 15:16

Erotica isn't 'porn' (at least it's not what is legally taken to be porn). I doubt very much you'd get dismissed for reading something a bit racy at work, whereas you would very probably get dismissed for watching something explicit on your phone at work.

Theresasmayshoes11 · 08/03/2018 15:18

I would think reading War snd Peace made you s pretentious prat. You would sound s lot more fun being honest to be honest

blueshoes · 08/03/2018 15:21

It will be fine over break in a toilet cubicle.

ReanimatedSGB · 08/03/2018 15:22

YANBU at all. (Is it one of my books??????)

Loads and loads of novels and stories contain sexy bits. If someone is reading a text-only story on their kindle (or phone) it is no one else's business. Part of the reason for the distinction is that anyone else, in order to be 'offended' and run bellowing to HR, would have to spend a good few minutes peering over your shoulder in an intrusive manner, whereas someone watching a porn video, or looking at explicit pictures, runs more of a risk of other people catching enough of a glimpse to identify what they are seeing even from a few feet away.
(Though if you are alone in your workplace and using your own phone/tablet to view pictorial porn, I don't see why that should be anyone else's problem TBH)

PinkHeart5914 · 08/03/2018 15:23

Yes your just reading a book aren’t you? What type of book doesn’t really matter

It’s not like your watching a spitroast with full volume sound in the staff room
