AIBU to read porn on a kindle at work during lunch

Not 50 shades, better quality. Not touching or anything. No one can see what it is as I sit eating my lunch. If anyone asks, I say ‘war and peace’. Should I save it for home?

OP posts:

I've done this. Yes people might be nearby but you zone them out, like you would any book. It's not like they're part of it!

I can't remember what it was called now but it made my lunch break more exciting (and no, not in a way that I needed a "happy ending").

BrendasUmbrella · 08/03/2018 15:32

There are plenty of serious novels with graphic sex scenes, I don't think we need to react as if OP has said she wants to fap herself stupid to a copy of Readers Wives in the lunch room.

I would say you're fine as long as it has a title you could say out loud to your boss with no embarrassment.

One of the males at work did read an erotic book. It had a naked woman on the cover that’s how I knew. It was fine until a 94 year old resident found it (care home setting) and took it

Todayissunny · 08/03/2018 15:37

I think it is erotic fiction, not porn.

KitKat1985 · 08/03/2018 15:53

It seems I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't personally read erotic fiction in a public space, and certainly not at work.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/03/2018 15:58

Some fiction can be very erotic without being explicit

What ever interests you it’s only words in a screen that you are seeing

AbsolutelyCorking · 08/03/2018 15:59

YABU and GROSS

PositivelyPERF · 08/03/2018 16:01

Sounds like a book version of AGP, to be honest. Does it give you a trill because you’re doing it surreptitiously, with your workmates around? Yuck.

ForgotwhatIcameinherefor · 08/03/2018 16:03

Are you desperate to get onto the Daily Fail website?

Oblomov18 · 08/03/2018 16:04

Can't see the problem. It's nobody's business but your own.
But I wouldn't lie. But then I did my dissertation on War and Peace. So you could get caught out, because I'd be the person who asked you about Pierre and Andrei!!

And I liked 50 shades, even though it was shite writing.

I like most books I read. And I've read a lot of very good stuff.

So guess I'm one of those people who is easily pleased!

Elendon · 08/03/2018 16:04

Are you reading the Old Testament on Kindle?

Oblomov18 · 08/03/2018 16:05

Pretentious Pratt? Hmm

TheQueef · 08/03/2018 16:06

Aren't we all Elendon?

AHintOfStyle · 08/03/2018 16:06

Is it a fanfic?

Mrsmadevans · 08/03/2018 16:16

I worked night shifts with someone who had a habit of doing this. I was very embarrassed especially when she was sighing and squirming sitting in her chair. It was excruciating OP . YADBU.

therealposieparker · 08/03/2018 16:20

Not sure why you would, it's a bit creepy.

Ginkypig · 08/03/2018 16:21

My opinion is read whatever the fuck you want. As long as I don't need to see it or while I'm at it you (the person reading) visibly aroused then I don't care!

Book ereaders mean noone has to be exposed to your reading material so why would it matter what you read.

kerryleigh · 08/03/2018 16:33

you read a book on an e-reader - why would it matter to anybody else Confused

ReanimatedSGB · 08/03/2018 16:46

If you're reading anything that makes you behave in a way which disturbs people around you, that's a bit inconsiderate. Sitting near someone who is sniggering and spluttering to themselves over a funny story can be a bit annoying. Also, if you read a sad story and start crying, people can be put out if they come rushing up to comfort you and then find out that it's 'only' a book (I am not criticizing people for crying over sad bits in books; anyone who loves books has probably had a weep over the death of a character or whatever at some point).

But FFS there are a lot of people on this thread easily freaked out by the idea of anyone thinking about sex or enjoying a sexy story.

BaronessBomburst · 08/03/2018 16:48

I doubt it contained anything the 94-year old resident didn't know about.......

AlansLeftMoob · 08/03/2018 16:56

"Not touching or anything"

Grin Grin Grin Grin

Whatever gets you through, OP. Whatever gets you through

wrenika · 08/03/2018 17:51

I would. I do! Most of what I enjoy reading is M/M romance with extremely graphic bits. I do read on my kindle though so nobody knows what I'm reading and I would skip the graphic bit of someone was hovering behind me (we don't have a break area so I take my lunch break at my desk).
I'm currently reading highly graphic M/M omegaverse mpreg...but it's not like anyone else is forced to read it!

ohnomoresnow · 08/03/2018 18:13

Is this a joke?

Helmetbymidnight · 08/03/2018 18:17

I used to write erotic fiction at work. Grin
I think it may depend on where you work.

splendide · 08/03/2018 18:17

I can’t see why it matters really - if nobody knows then where is the harm.
