AIBU to read porn on a kindle at work during lunch

Not 50 shades, better quality. Not touching or anything. No one can see what it is as I sit eating my lunch. If anyone asks, I say ‘war and peace’. Should I save it for home?

No it's not ok, whatever your job is you should take pride in what you are doing. It's very crass and unnecessary for you to be reading that at work even on your lunch break you are representing your workplace and I would argue that reading a very graphic erotic novel has grounds for bringing your workplace into disrepute, please keep that stuff for at home!! I appreciate your lunch break is your own time but common decency is a minimum that an employer can and should expect of you.

RLOU88 · 09/03/2018 17:23

Drivemecrazy1974 Is spot on. Why are we talking about books that have sexual content when the OP herself said she was reading Porn?

Richdebtomdom · 09/03/2018 17:33

My questions are: why would you want to? And... what if you were caught?

ton181 · 09/03/2018 17:35

What is M/M or M/M/M ?????? confused.com

Helmetbymidnight · 09/03/2018 17:38

My opinion would be the same whether it was a man or a woman privately reading erotica.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 09/03/2018 17:42

Better that than reading 50 Shades on the péage from Calais to Paris, and sniggering. Yes DW, I'm looking at YOU.

IrishNinja · 09/03/2018 17:44

Ton181 male on male or male on male on male...gay fiction basically

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2018 17:45

I'd like to know what M/M omegaverse mpreg is, because I've googled it and am none the wiser!

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2018 17:45

Oh! Cross posted! Thanks Grin

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2018 17:46

Oh but what's the omega and alpha reference?

IrishNinja · 09/03/2018 17:46

I'm guessing mpreg is male pregnancy??? Omegaverse....not a scoobies Grin

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2018 17:48

Male pregnancy?!

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2018 17:49

Yes it is male pregnancy. Well this is eye opening! Grin

IrishNinja · 09/03/2018 17:49

I dunno. Just guessing. I've seen (but not read) gay erotic fiction about men shape shifting into gay foxes and wolves. The covers are frickin hilarious.

VivaKondo · 09/03/2018 17:57

I have been wondering too what are those porn books. I know of erotic littérature but porn that you can read escape me.
I must have missed something.....

Purpledahlia88 · 09/03/2018 18:00

"Not touching or anything".. sorry do you mean you aren't touching yourself?? Or am I missing something? If so surely it's not exactly good of you to not, just basic normal behaviour

cdtaylornats · 09/03/2018 18:02

The only problem would be if you were using the company network to download it.

ReanimatedSGB · 09/03/2018 18:12

Cruella: OK, try this (it's 10 short stories by 10 different authors). it's about women over 50 still owning/taking pride in their sexuality.

ReanimatedSGB · 09/03/2018 18:14

Also, Omegaverse. OK this stuff is a little bit out of my area of expertise but I don't see it as any weirder than aliens or timetravel, really.

FifiVoldemortsChavvyCousin · 09/03/2018 18:18

It’s often fanfiction. If you google the most popular ones they are very well written. People speculate on which famous authors have anonymously writing what.

Omrgaverse is basically writing where the characters are strongly driven by pheromones etc. There are wikis explaining in more detail. It’s not people turning into animals/werewolves Grin (unless you’re specifically looking for that, I suppose)

The reason I said ‘no touching’ was host so I wouldn’t have to drip feed the fact that I’m not writhing and panting. The stories are quite romantic often except that unlike some books where they cut to the next morning, they go into explicit detail.

Crazyunicornlady · 09/03/2018 18:19

It’s a book on a kindle. If we’re going to censor literature then we’d also have to ban anything containing violence or any other theme that could be deemed offensive.

I’m an HR ‘catsbumface’ (to borrow a previous posters phrase!) and I would just love someone to try and pull the offence card: I’d have a lot of fun establishing why they were peering over someone else’s shoulder in the first place!

FifiVoldemortsChavvyCousin · 09/03/2018 18:19

Fat fingered keyboard typing, sorry.

Quietvoiceplease · 09/03/2018 18:35

Isn't the point of erotic literature/porn to be arousing?
So why would you want to sit at your desk deliberately seeking arousal in your lunch break?
Honestly, I cannot for the life of me see why you'd want to.
I am not sure whether it is reasonable, but it IS a bit weird.

HairyBallTheorem · 09/03/2018 18:35

Alphas, Betas and Omegas: A Primer Spectacularly not safe for work (except in OP's workplace, and possibly mine) but very, very funny.

My work place has a second hand book stall (aka wooden table with books and collection tin for charity) - at any given time there are usually at least 2 possibly 3 copies of 50 Shades on there. And Dan Brown, lots of Dan Brown. I think I can safely say that my colleague's literary tastes are not "high" Grin I picked up a copy of Jilly Cooper's Riders from there just to relive my teens - my goodness it was terrible Grin. Mind you, I remember JC saying, apropos of literary fiction "Well, I wish I had Martin Amis' reviews, and I'm sure he wishes he had my sales figures."

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2018 18:35

Bloody Nora. Might have just read a bit online.
