Not 50 shades, better quality. Not touching or anything. No one can see what it is as I sit eating my lunch. If anyone asks, I say ‘war and peace’. Should I save it for home?

What’s the book?
Dying to know 😂

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 08/03/2018 18:26

You might think you are being saucy, but it's a bit 'ooooh young maaaan'

It reminds me a bit of them 2 posh contry women French and Saunders did in their sketches 😂

MysticFlyTrap · 08/03/2018 18:28

I would but tbh i find all these new "porn" books a bit mediocre, what book is it? And is it any good ?WinkGrin

ClashCityRocker · 08/03/2018 18:35

I don't see why not.

I couldn't imagine doing it myself but I don't see why it's a problem.

Jaxinthebox · 08/03/2018 18:46

now I want to know what book it is!

DickTERFin · 08/03/2018 18:51

I used to have a job that often had very, very quiet periods with nothing to do (followed by extremely busy periods) and quite a few people would do a bit of creative writing in the lulls.

One guy, who I mercifully didn't have to work with that often, wrote Gay Erotic Fiction. Not a problem in itself but he was a prolific writer of utter drivel which he personally found acutely arousing and would unashamedly have to go and "sort himself out" once he had completed a chapter - grim.

Don't be that guy.

But if you're discreet and it isn't making you trot to the loo for a surreptitious "flicking of the bean" then I can't see the problem.

Bibibou · 08/03/2018 19:18

Just don't read it out loud!

FifiVoldemortsChavvyCousin · 08/03/2018 19:41

Most of what I enjoy reading is M/M romance with extremely graphic bits. I do read on my kindle though so nobody knows what I'm reading ...
I'm currently reading highly graphic M/M omegaverse mpreg...but it's not like anyone else is forced to read it!

Omg

Are you me? This is exactly it.

Just be aware that one of the signs of arousal is increased pupil dilation. You can be as discrete as you like but that might be a giveaway!!

wakemeupbefore · 08/03/2018 19:59

You rock, OP, living life to the fullest, surfing ever so close to the wind, balancing on the edge of the knife (... and breathe...), deserving a medal, having the Tshirt, etc etc ad nauseam.
You are so special.....

Ivebeenaroundtheblock · 08/03/2018 20:08

oh like the old fashioned paperback ones with Fabio on the cover? do as you please on your breaks but certainly not at work.

FifiVoldemortsChavvyCousin · 08/03/2018 20:16

Good old Fabio
Sigh (but not sighing at work)

One reason for the popularity of ebooks is that no one else needs to know what you are reading (it's been alleged that this contributed to the 50 Shades phenomenon).

There is some really good erotic writing out there - yes, there's some rubbish, but there is rubbish in every genre of popular fiction, whether that's the identikit chicklit/romcoms about ditzy middle-class girls opening cupcake shops, or the gritty alcoholic detectives with crap personal lives.

Figmentofimagination · 08/03/2018 21:22

I don't see the problem with this at all. I constantly would read erotica at work. And no one ever asked me what I was reading, though I would have said Harry Potter if they asked. As long as you don't bother others no one will care. Enjoy your book OP!

wrenika · 08/03/2018 21:22

Fifi
I'm currently reading an Aiden Bates book, but I also love Ann-Katrin Byrde, L.C. Davis, Susi Hawke, and Leta Blake's omegaverse. I prefer non-shifter but shifter is growing on me.

I'm also a massive fan of the likes of Garrett Leigh, Roan Parrish, Santino Hassell, Heidi Cullinan, Rhys Ford, Zaya Feli, Megan Derr, C.S. Pacat, Eresse, etc.

There is great smutty filth out there which still has an intriguing plot and characters...you just need to find it. I think, two years into hardcore (no pun intended) reading of this stuff, I'm finally settled into a groove where I have a steady stream of decent stuff to read. It's a bit of a sub-sect that you have to ingratiate yourself into, but once you're there, you find the gold. And when you support the authors you love, there are opportunities that you wouldn't get in big mainstream literature...like the opportunity to get ARC copies. And I've just this minute finished beta reading a story for the first time ever, which was a wonderful opportunity.

JustHereForThePooStories · 08/03/2018 21:26

Grim.

Dahlietta · 08/03/2018 21:34

Well it's not very classy, but I don't suppose it's harming anyone.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 08/03/2018 21:57

I would be extremely uncomfortable if a male colleague was reading material written for the express purpose of arousal at work.

ReanimatedSGB · 08/03/2018 22:07

Pop: as long as your male colleague wasn't groaning and squirming/staring at you and licking his chops/reading bits out to you, why on earth would it bother you what he reads? How would you even know?

It's not all that unusual for people to actually have a wank at work (with or without the aid of any reading material), and very frequent for people to think about sex and have sexy fantasies when they are supposed to be doing other stuff. Again, as long as they a) don't make it blatantly obvious to colleagues and b) get their actual work done (and c) don't leave a mess anywhere) WTF is the problem?

Quite a lot of jobs are boring as well as badly paid; even decent jobs can have spells of downtime where you might read a book (or play Farmville on your phone or something) and every worker is entitled to breaks, which they can spend as they wish as long as they are not bothering their colleagues.

potatomama · 08/03/2018 22:08

yeah, I read fanfic at work too Blush

OldPony · 08/03/2018 22:08

I'd think you were not very bright.

PilatesSuck · 08/03/2018 22:12

I read slash fanfic too. Fuck em all. Not like you are masterbating over it....

PilatesSuck · 08/03/2018 22:14

And how would they know? No ond has a clue that i am reading fic with smut in it. They think it is a book...

wikedminx · 08/03/2018 22:33

I dont see the problem! Where I work several of us pass on the titles of erotica or as we call it - mummy porn!!
I have to say that I am also a M/M.. or even M/M/M reader ;)
each to their own I say!
Do have to say that maybe reading it in Dr waiting room before blood pressure taken isnt best thing :D

CadyHeron · 09/03/2018 00:54

Since when is erotica porn? Assuming it's one of the Black Lace type novels?!
Who cares. Surely nobody will be looking that closely at the blurb on the back or asking you in depth questions on the content.
Carry on reading about the spanking/threesomes etc with your lunch and nobody should be any the wiser. Smile
