Why do dog people hate cats?

But cat people generally like dogs as well as cats?
Met 3 dog lovers this weekend who all happily admitted they sometimes kick cats off their land they hate them so much!

I’ve never met a cat lover who shows as much venom towards dogs as dog lovers do towards cats. Have I just been meeting the wrong people?

I know what you mean!

I love both. But when people ask if I'm a cat or a dog person, I generally say I'm slightly more pro-cat as I have feel sorry with them as I feel they have a bad rep Grin

I'm a cat person and I can't stand dogs, I wouldn't kick one though unless it was attacking me or a DC.

acornsandnuts · 18/02/2018 15:32

I am a dog person but don’t dislike cats. Just don’t see the point in having them as pets personally.

LuxuryMilk · 18/02/2018 15:32

I absolutely love cats but I can also appreciate dogs are cute too. I don’t think there’s any animal I could hate.

Eh? I’n a dog person but don’t mind dogs.

When people say they ‘kick them off their land’ do them mean it literally or as in ‘I kicked him out’?

Snowydaysarehere · 18/02/2018 15:33

Dog people don't want to be owned by a dcat!! Dcat people have accepted their fate as slaves. Grin

Rebeccatheold · 18/02/2018 15:33

Errr sorry that should say I’m a dog person but don’t mind cats!

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 18/02/2018 15:34

I hate cats. I'm incredibly allergic to them - the trigger my asthma. I also massively resent cleaning up after them when they crap in my garden. Cat poo smells rank and makes me wretch. I have a powerful water pistol which I use to get rid of any cat I find in my garden.

Twocatsonebaby · 18/02/2018 15:34

Cats are entirely different and now it seems a taboo to not like dogs. I think they assume just cats are assholes as well.

I love cats and much prefer them to dogs. I'll admit I can't stand them but one nearly killed me as a baby so I think I'm within my right to hate and fear them.
Cats will just do them and I can do me with minimal effort. I mean, I like some of them. I think some breeds are gorgeous. But I wouldn't want one. I think it's a bit of the personality too. They want someone to greet them happily rather than a cat stare at the window for you and wait for food.

Floralnomad · 18/02/2018 15:34

I own a dog but love cats , however I don’t encourage cats in my garden because I don’t like cat shit all over the place and my dog would seriously damage a cat if he got hold of one . My mum has an indoor Ragdoll and he’s gorgeous .

Jaygee61 · 18/02/2018 15:34

I'm a dog owner but I like cats too.

Twocatsonebaby · 18/02/2018 15:35

@hain that's cruel :( they're frightened of water. Just shoo them.

FranticallyPeaceful · 18/02/2018 15:36

Dog person but also have a cat who I love, just not as much - but it’s because I like being loved back and cats are way more selfish than dogs. I still love him though. I’m allergic to him right now because I’m pregnant and always develop cat allergies (???) so can’t really fuss him

Marinade · 18/02/2018 15:36

I find cats to be very creepy and they completely unnerve me. However, although I really really dislike them and hate them coming anywhere near me, I could never harm one. I don't know if watching the film 'The Uncanny' at a young age created this view or if it enforced an already held dislike! See link below:

As a (new) gardener i hate the cat pests who poo on my garden (they never cover and no its not fox poo) but will make fuss of both cats and dogs in their homes as they cute. Ive had a cat before but wont again unless i kept it within my garden as didnt realise how much of a pest it was to neighbours. I dont think you can generalise as i like both cats and dogs.

SoleBizzz · 18/02/2018 15:36

All.this dog v cat stuff is insanity.

Smarmydrippings · 18/02/2018 15:37

I've got one of each and adore them both equally.

UpstartCrow · 18/02/2018 15:37

'Why do dog people hate cats but cat people generally like dogs as well as cats?'

Thats not something I've noticed. Most people I know prefer to keep one or the other, because their chosen animal suits their personality and lifestyle better than the other.

I dont hate cats, I prefer dogs, but I do loathe nuisance pet owners.

Balearica · 18/02/2018 15:38

I have both cats and dogs!

FuzzyCustard · 18/02/2018 15:38

I'm a cat person and I'm not that keen on dogs. I'm rather wary of them, having been bitten a couple of times and I find them too unpredictable.. a cat will run away from you, a dog will run towards you (which can end in trouble).

However, I would never kick a dog or be in any way unpleasant to one.

ThisLittleKitty · 18/02/2018 15:38

I like cats but hate dogs, yes hate.

MyDogHasNoNose · 18/02/2018 15:39

I’m a dog person but I love cats too. In fact most of the dog owners I know own cats too. I think you must not have tested a large enough data sample.
I love all animals and would have a house full if I could. But my DH limits me to one and dogs are obviously the best! Wink

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 18/02/2018 15:40

I love dogs, totally indifferent to cats. I’d put them in the same category as rabbits.

LuxuryMilk · 18/02/2018 15:41

Yes they physically kick them off their property. I know cat poo is annoying but I don’t see that as reason enough to hate all cats ever.

I think cats are misunderstood tbh.

I love dogs and absolutely loathe cats. Vile creatures that shit all over my garden. Literally the only pet that the owner isn’t responsible for its shit!
