To ask what random things your DC have decided they’re scared of

My 8 month old DS has today decided he’s terrified when I yawn- he’s been fine with it for the last 8 months but now it’s terrfiying to him! Now every time I yawn he whips around to look accusingly at me and I have to pretend I’m doing something else.

Anyone else have any other DC that are afraid of something new/random?

My twins are 16 months old, and one of them has been scared of all of these at some point:

  • bicycle horns
  • bubbles
  • tadpoles on Hey Duggee
  • Cartoon whales
  • Cartoon spiders

The other one has only been scared of his brother's screeching so far but give it time 😂

We have a Simon Cowell doll. I think it came out of one of those grabber machines on the pier, we’ve had it for donkeys years. It’s about a foot tall.

Anyway, DS2 (6) is TERRIFIED of it. For a while DD kept putting it in random places to scare him until we got wind of it, and it’s now in a box in the garage. It is bloody creepy tbf, but seriously random.

Perhaps he thinks you are going to eat him!

When DS had a tummy upset, someone bought him one of those giant microbe toys, the stomach ache one. DS HATES it!

"Dor-dors" Which we racked our brains over for 3 years, until DS was old enough to explain to us that it was the Capital D from Alphablocks! Grin

He's 14 now and still not keen.

Haha these are brilliant! mumpoints that would make sense except it’s only yawns that make any noise at all. He’s fine with silent yawns, watches suspiciously then resumes what he was doing after the yawn finishes.

Balloons. They don't even need to be blown up either.

pugsleypugs my DH is terrified of balloons! He has a fear of them popping- I’m not sure what he thinks will happen after it pops Hmm

ohhh...its an endless list....

socks, shoes, buttons, mostly buttons.

weather...leaving the house...surprises of any sort.

She decided after years of swimming and diving that she was scared to go in the pool the other day...I cried...a lot.

Plasters. My 7 year old hates them. She has to have a full on dressing held on with bandages and micropore tape on even the tiniest cut because she just won't let a plaster anywhere near her.

I forgot balloons. And this big lizard shaped toy that he used to love suddenly became terrifying - he accidentally found it where I'd hidden it and literally jumped then wept.

My 9 year old son was and still is petrified of talking orange. Just singing the song makes me freak out.

Same kid love FNAF and doing stupid stuff like bloody mary at school.

I understand balloons popping but one straight out the packet and never having been blown up I just don't understand.

The Gruffalo. He is not scared of the Gruffalo. I think he’s just gone off the book (he still likes The Gruffalo’s Child) so if we suggest it he says “no. Too scary.”

As an adult who is frightened of balloons (blowing them up, people making them squeak with their fingers and them popping), plugholes in baths and the rubber mats that stop you slipping in the bath, so think a lot of these fears are totally rational.

Any game that had a sudden movement - buckaroo sort of thing.

And that Carpenters song, I think it's called Close to You, used to make her cry. Even if she heard it being hummed...

When my youngest was a toddler she was petrified of windsocks....we live near an airport so every time we went past she would start crying.

My oldest 15 watched a bit of only fools and horses with us, the one where they were stuck in a cabin on a stormy night. She sat with a pillow over her face trying not to watch it. She will not believe me that only fools and horses is a comedy, not horror and refuses to watch any others to prove it 😂
