To ask what random things your DC have decided they’re scared of

My 8 month old DS has today decided he’s terrified when I yawn- he’s been fine with it for the last 8 months but now it’s terrfiying to him! Now every time I yawn he whips around to look accusingly at me and I have to pretend I’m doing something else.

Anyone else have any other DC that are afraid of something new/random?

Hand dryers in public toilets
When the iPad runs out of charge and that "spinny thing" comes up
Wolves? Eg she'll look worried about something, I'll ask her why, she'll say "there might be wolves in it"

muddabitch · 23/01/2018 20:13

Last year when Ds was 4 he was terrified of trees but only at night.
When he saw them during the day he was fine.

PaddingtonBearHardStare · 23/01/2018 20:14

Blue glow sticks. He's nearly 7 FFS

gta · 23/01/2018 20:18

Diabetes Confused if I tell him he's been naughty for example he'll start crying asking is he gonna get diabetes now Hmm

I don't have a clue where he's got it from

Awks · 23/01/2018 20:19

ET and porcelain dolls. Bizarre children.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 23/01/2018 20:28

The large koi aquarium on the way into a local fishkeeping shop. Scared the crap out of him for ages, and then suddenly didn't and he wanted to help feed them.
Hand dryers.
The infant school disco he insisted on going to, he was with his friends and lots of familiar adults. Didn't stop him from crying so much I ended up getting a phonecall.
Unfamiliar food.
All dogs. Even quite tiny ones.

Tinuviel · 23/01/2018 20:31

Noddy - it was the fact that his head was so big! (DS is now 17 and has explained why he found him so scary). He's OK with Noddy now though!

CoodleMoodle · 23/01/2018 20:35

Cellar
My DD was terrified of Happy Birthday as well! Her first birthday she wailed. Second birthday we didn't get past the first line. Third birthday I warned everyone not to sing it but I don't think anyone believed me... She'll be 4 soon and I'll probably have to remind everyone of the No Happy Birthday song rule.

She's okay as long as it's not directed towards her!

A little cow that moos... the dog that barks in the same toy range is much loved and apparently hilarious... but that cow....

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 23/01/2018 20:40

Hand dryers. Smoke alarms. Mixers. You may be sensing a theme here...

NorbertTheDragon · 23/01/2018 20:41

The episode of In The Night Garden where Mr Pontipine's moustache flew off. He'd loved ITNG before then but screamed in terror at that episode and refused to ever watch it again. I had to hide the toys he had too.

My twins were terrified of lost gloves. For some reason they thought they were actual hands in them! I'm not sure what they thought had happened to make people suddenly lose their gloved hands! 😂 I still point out dropped gloves to them now they're in their teens.

My oldest was about 18 months when he became terrified if his own penis! He'd crane his neck at each nappy change to look at it and then scream hysterically. Absolutely bizarre, and stopped just as suddenly as it started!

LinoleumBlownapart · 23/01/2018 20:48

My 5 year old is scared of laughing babies. We were driving home late from a long journey, he was in the back seat and DH put MIL'S music pendrive in for a change of music, one track started wit a laughing or crying (hard to tell) baby, we had to turn it off because he completely freaked out. A few days later the baby next door started crying in their garden and we had the kitchen door open, he jumped up and cried, moving his chair to the far end of the table.

My 14 year old was scared of his brother's makka pakka doll, but he was 9 at the time. We still tease him and leave in strategic places around the house. He just laughs now.

SleepFreeZone · 23/01/2018 20:49

Norbert my son was terrified of the moustache episode too! 😂. Also really hated Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures so I would have to leap on the remote control directly the theme tune started.

2birds1chick · 23/01/2018 20:53

My 21m old daughter is terrified of the Very Important Lady from the Twirlywoo's. She loves watching Twirlywoos but freaks out at the VIL... Especially when she falls apart, for some reason.

HippyChickMama · 23/01/2018 20:56

Ds has ASD and can't watch anything where there is what can only be described as mild peril. He was terrified by: an episode of Balamory where a window gets broken, an episode of Me Too where someone gets soaked by rainwater, an episode of Me Too where someone is late and an episode of Mopatop where Puppyduck gets chased by a vulture. He loved the programmes but hated those episodes. Dd is terrified of Professor Muddle from Gigglebiz despite the fact that she loves Justin. She won't believe they are the same person.

AlwaysSpellingMyName · 23/01/2018 21:07

DS2 17 months. Decided he hates the bath mat. Also decided to hate having his nappy changed which is fun Hmm

Seashell80 · 23/01/2018 21:20

DD 21 months freaks out at dinosaurs, not the scary realistic ones like in Jurassic Park, oh no she loves them! Specifically the robot Dino in the peppa pig episode where George goes to the museum and a very cute remote control one she got for Christmas, not sure why these are scarier than the real thing but who am I to question the logic of a nearly 2yr old? Grin

MoonlightandMusic · 23/01/2018 21:28

Small child here (7yo) is scared of pictures of frogs and has been since tiny. Not actual frogs, or films of them, just pictures. Confused

Cellardoor23 · 23/01/2018 21:31

CoodleMoodle It's bizzare isn't it? Although he was perfectly fine when we sung Happy Birthday to him, it was just when it was aimed at other people. It might all change on his 2nd birthday, time will tell!

Always My DS is similar with nappy changes. He also went from hating being naked when he was a a few months old, to hating clothes and always wanting to be naked. Which I'm going to presume is pretty common Grin

FancyNewBeesly · 23/01/2018 21:42

Mine hates the bath mat too! Just stopped using the seats and he cries every time I put him in the bath now.

theyoniwayisnorthwards · 23/01/2018 21:46

Ds2 is scared of being upstairs without someone else there too. Downstairs is fine but he requires an escort for all trips upstairs.

KnightsOfCydonia · 23/01/2018 21:47

My DS has always been scared of the toy monkey in toy story 3. Even now (nearly 9) he won't watch that movie because of the monkey, yet he'll happily watch Star Wars and Jurassic Park so it's not that he scares easily, that monkey just really creeps him out I guess.

ThisLittleKitty · 23/01/2018 21:48

3 yr old scared of sponge bob

Amanduh · 23/01/2018 21:48

Men with dark curly hair and sideburns. Seriously. He loves and is fine with absolutely everyone and anyone - randoms in the supermarket are his best mates - but the plumber who has been over a few times in the last 3 months and the nurse at the hospital yesterday, both with dark curly hair and sideburns, a glance at them each time and he is absolutely unconsolable. 😂😂😂

Amanduh · 23/01/2018 21:49

*inconsolable!
