To ask what random things your DC have decided they’re scared of

My 8 month old DS has today decided he’s terrified when I yawn- he’s been fine with it for the last 8 months but now it’s terrfiying to him! Now every time I yawn he whips around to look accusingly at me and I have to pretend I’m doing something else.

Anyone else have any other DC that are afraid of something new/random?

My 3-year-old has decided she's scared of deciduous trees, because they are not green, and green is her favourite colour.

allypally1983 · 23/01/2018 18:04

Hand dryers. She's 5

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 23/01/2018 18:20

My 2 year old is scared of hand dryers. He is otherwise scared of nothing - borderline reckless - but any foray into a bathroom is accompanied by a trembling voice, panicked glancing around and 'mummy, is there a fan?'

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 23/01/2018 18:26

Ds2, bit of a wimp, was at age 3 really scared of a tiny plastic fish we had, and also feathers. When he started nursery he specifically asked them if they had any fish, I stood behind him desperately gesticulating that the correct answer was no!

Zapdos · 23/01/2018 18:31

DS2 used to be terrified of me when I had my hair wrapped in a towel after a shower!

DS1 is scared of carrots that turn people into zombies. I have to reassure him every night that they don't actually exist Confused

SlipperyLizard · 23/01/2018 18:37

DD1 was terrified of a talking Foghorn Leghorn toy, so we put it in a shelf we didn’t want her to touch.

DD2 was scared of pine cones for a while!

Bluelonerose · 23/01/2018 18:41

Ds2 when he was about 2/3 got crocodile dentist one Xmas. He played it once shit himself when it dropped it's jaw and never touched it since. I've just given it to charity shop I asked him if he wanted to keep it. I got a look and a firm no. Grin he's 7 now

Ihatebuildabear · 23/01/2018 18:44

My 6 year old has been scared of the Muppets for a few years. Has nightmares about them.

BBTHREE76 · 23/01/2018 18:48

Very specific but my DS when young he was scared of Zippy from Rainbow but only when his mouth was closed. My slightly older DD had a zippy teddy and with the mouth open my DS was fine, but with mouth zipped up my DS went hysterical. Guess what DD thought it was hilarious to do constantly! 😐

DollyPartonsBeard · 23/01/2018 18:49

When my son was small he was scared witless by a Lee from Steps singing doll on a sleepover. The batteries were wearing down at it spontaneously started singing 'Tragedy' at a third of the normal pitch and speed from under the bed.

NotTheMrMenAgain · 23/01/2018 18:54

Pineapples!

seriouslystumped · 23/01/2018 19:00

DS3 is scared of the lights on our Sky box. Apparently they're monster's eyes.

HerrenaHarridan · 23/01/2018 19:04

Sneezing 2 weeks- 9 months
Lady birds 6 months to 4 years
Hand dryers 2 years to present day (6)

YoloThankfully · 23/01/2018 19:09

Balloons, sneezes, Hoover and my spikey legs Hmm

10 months old

AJPTaylor · 23/01/2018 19:13

When dd1 was a baby, the itn weather was sponsored by a hayfever medicine and showed a dandelion clock with the sound of a sneeze. She was inconsolable every time!

SleepFreeZone · 23/01/2018 19:16

A parrot and I’ve no idea why. It pops up in his nightmares regularly. I don’t remember him every meeting a parrot in real life!

goose1964 · 23/01/2018 19:18

DS one as scared of land crabs, you know the ones that don't live here, not scared of normally crabs that we do have.

YolandiFuckinVisser · 23/01/2018 19:21

DS was scared of plasters too, I have no idea why and he can't explain now although he remembers being scared of them. He was also terrified of Engie Benjie and once had a fit of rage when I wore tights (he demanded that I put that thing off my legs RIGHT NOW)

CheshireChat · 23/01/2018 19:27

Street cleaners, hand dryers are apparently terrifying.

He really doesn't like the vacuum or even toys that make similar noises- can't wait until he outgrows this, but I expect it's just sensitivity to noise rather than anything else.

More bafflingly, he's scared of old buildings and refuses to go in which has made all the local museums out of bounds unfortunately.

CoodleMoodle · 23/01/2018 19:29

The Very Important Lady from Twirlywoos. DD loved it otherwise, but I had to dive for the remote if she appeared. Unfortunately we started watching it when it first aired, so every episode was new to me and I generally had no way of knowing if she was going to visit or not. I think it was a mixture of the loud operatic singing and the bit where she falls apart. We once saw a soft toy of her in a shop and DD went berserk!

She's nearly 4 now and still likes Twirlywoos every now and then, and is no longer afraid of the V.I.Lady. She's still a bit wary of the Spider Badge episode of Duggee, though. But any episode of Peppa with Mister Skinnylegs the spider is fine.

Sinistrophobia · 23/01/2018 19:32

One time we went to a restaurant, I think it was Bella italia, with my then 9mo and she was absolutely terrified of the fake plants that were around us!

Cellardoor23 · 23/01/2018 19:34

My 20 month old son burst into tears when everyone sung happy birthday to my niece. No idea where that came from, it wasn't loud. He was fine aftwards.

Wakeuptortoise · 23/01/2018 19:45

Ds1 3.9you is currently scared of the light on the camera monitor, also the gap down the side of his bed. Previously he's hated hand dryers and hoovers but is fine now. Ds2 became terrified of a specific angle of light shining through the bedroom door at night and a dress hanging on the door. Also everytime he saw a certain friend of ours he would burst into inconsolable tears and hide on my shoulder age about 8m to 15m.

HoneyDragon · 23/01/2018 19:48

Elmo.....the fuzzy red bastard. Dd is still not fond at 8.

ILoveACupOfTea · 23/01/2018 19:48

Just remembered. My DS up until recently used to be terrified of beards too.
