Weird food combos

DH isn’t very confident when it comes to cooking. So if he does cook I try to just leave him to it.

He’s been off work for two weeks and at home (he’s in the forces and lives on base so when he’s home he’s not working but I am).

He’s been cooking dinner every night for the first time in 8 years which is great.

But he does some really weird food combos. Pie with baked beans (two wet things?) and chops with mash and cauliflower cheese (two carbs?) are two examples.

I wouldn’t and haven’t said anything but WTAF?

I don't think they are odd combinations we ?

Monoblock67 · 07/01/2018 10:14

I really don’t see the problem? I thought you were going to say he’d served something actually weird.

Polopolopolo · 07/01/2018 10:14

They are not weird at all. They're really not. And I wouldn't have said cauliflower cheese is a carb either?

Hippywannabe · 07/01/2018 10:15

They aren't odd at all. He is probably recreating what he sees on offer in the mess.

Like beans and cornflakes or pie and milk

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 10:16

Kiev with beans - weird.

You can’t have two different wets Grin

LaurieMarlow · 07/01/2018 10:16

Nothing strange about those at all.

x2boys · 07/01/2018 10:17

Kiev with beans is also fine imoConfused

letsdolunch321 · 07/01/2018 10:17

Not at all weird in my world.

Enjoy having dinner cooked for you

scatterbrainedlass · 07/01/2018 10:18

Fine imo. We always have beans or gravy with pie. I prefer cauliflower cheese as a side rather than a main so would poss serve with potatoes. Maybe not mash as they're very similar in look and texture but not weird really.

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 10:19

Gravy with Pie?! Shock

OP posts:
Anasnake · 07/01/2018 10:19

Not weird at all

x2boys · 07/01/2018 10:22

Gravy pie and chips is a thing of beauty op particularly with a side helping of mushy peas found in most northern chippys.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 07/01/2018 10:24

Those were not weird combos op.

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 10:24

Mushy peas 🤢

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 10:25

Although I am Southern and DH is Northen which may be the crux of the issue Grin

OP posts:
Pugsleypugs · 07/01/2018 10:25

Erm, they're not weird combos at all.

SheGotOffThePlane · 07/01/2018 10:28

Haha you'd hate me OP. I love Kiev with mash and cauliflower cheese Grin

Pattyandbump · 07/01/2018 10:28

Definitely not weird at all OP. Pie and beans is a great combo.

Envy Wishing I could have that today instead of stupid diet food.

ZzzMarchhare · 07/01/2018 10:29

I am from the midlands and they are normal meals.
How is a vegetable covered on cheese a 'carb'?
My DH likes to experiment- a stir fry with rice- he put the sauce on the rice not the stir fry bit Envy

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 10:30

Cheese is a carb? Cauliflower is a carb?

OP posts:
x2boys · 07/01/2018 10:31

My friends mum used to serve cauliflower cheese with a Sunday roast which I thought was a little odd but surprisingly delicious there would also be loads of bread and butter to make sandwiches out of the roast dinner!

LazyArseAvocado · 07/01/2018 10:32

Gravy or beans with pie is how it's supposed to be.

Chops with cauliflower cheese and potatoes is a staple dish in out Northern household.

You're weird OP.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 07/01/2018 10:33

Bacon and maple syrup. Yum.

Anasnake · 07/01/2018 10:33

Pie, mushy peas and gravy - yum. You have dry pie op ??!
