Weird food combos

DH isn’t very confident when it comes to cooking. So if he does cook I try to just leave him to it.

He’s been off work for two weeks and at home (he’s in the forces and lives on base so when he’s home he’s not working but I am).

He’s been cooking dinner every night for the first time in 8 years which is great.

But he does some really weird food combos. Pie with baked beans (two wet things?) and chops with mash and cauliflower cheese (two carbs?) are two examples.

I wouldn’t and haven’t said anything but WTAF?

Don't watch Come Dine With Me OP! Grin

yawning801 · 07/01/2018 16:42

And I'm Southern too, pie with gravy is totally normal where I'm from (East Anglia).

Snowysky20009 · 07/01/2018 16:44

all normal foods that go together. Wtf is this wet/wet stuff about?

GrooovyLass · 07/01/2018 16:45

Yeah two of us have agreed about the wets and we both have self declared food issues!

kaytee87 · 07/01/2018 16:45

You're the weird one op Grin

PinkyBlunder · 07/01/2018 16:50

Yeah, I totally know I’m the abnormal one.

I can’t even think about ketchup/brown sauce and baked beans touching without borking. My DD does this and there’s finger nail marks in the dining table Grin

Come Dine With Me is my idea of hell..... if I don’t go to heaven, I will be sent to an eternal episode of Come Dine With Me.

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 16:58

I am really funny about eating stuff people have made (work with teenagers and they often make stuff I have to eat Grin

I would be fine with Come Dine With Me.

LazyArseAvocado · 07/01/2018 17:40

So you do have food issues after all 😁

TheGirlWithAllTheFeathers · 07/01/2018 17:46

I don't think they're odd. Peh and beans is a great staple in Dundee!

Polopolopolo · 07/01/2018 17:50

in regards to pie filling mixing with your beans i build a little chip/mash bridge between the two so they cant touch. Problem solved

Clankboing · 07/01/2018 18:33

At Pieminister you get pie, mash and mushy peas with gravy too so it must be right!

Triskaidekaphilia · 07/01/2018 18:38

Graphista noooo you've reminded me how much I miss macaroni cheese pies, they used to sell them in farmfoods (lasagne pies too!) but they don't anymore Sad When I last visited Edinburgh I made sure to have one every day! I've thought about making some but the macaroni cheese inside tastes different to homemade somehow...

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 18:52

I don’t think I could cope with a Macaroni Cheese pie Confused

And don’t start me on mushy peas 🤢

cauli is hardly a carb. certainly not a starchy one. it's not exactly a chip butty is it. beans go with everything obv. YABU.

babigailwabble · 07/01/2018 19:15
