Weird food combos

DH isn’t very confident when it comes to cooking. So if he does cook I try to just leave him to it.

He’s been off work for two weeks and at home (he’s in the forces and lives on base so when he’s home he’s not working but I am).

He’s been cooking dinner every night for the first time in 8 years which is great.

But he does some really weird food combos. Pie with baked beans (two wet things?) and chops with mash and cauliflower cheese (two carbs?) are two examples.

I wouldn’t and haven’t said anything but WTAF?

So are we saying it’s ok to eat mash and cauliflower - together Confused

What meals do you like op because your dh sound perfectly fine to me .

RestingBitchFaced · 07/01/2018 11:49

Sounds ok to me - your weird OP Grin

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 11:49

We have six kids so I cook things like macaroni cheese, lasagne, stews, roasts, curries etc, things that will feed thousands.

Mash & cauliflower cheese together is compulsory - yes it's a bit white so add some bacon & frozen peas, to jazz it up a bit.

Ermmm6 · 07/01/2018 11:54

I’m going to gently suggest that “two wets” has never been anything I would consider weird. What your husband cooked sounds fine to me. I think you might be the slightly weird one when it comes to food combos WinkGrin

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 11:58

Two different wets 🤢

What is this 'wets' thing you speak of?

Anasnake · 07/01/2018 12:08

Mash isn't 'wet' Confused

XiCi · 07/01/2018 12:09

Maybe being a southerner you'd have preferred jellied eels with your pie Grin

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 07/01/2018 12:10

I know you're trying to make a joke but you actually sound like you have food issues. The wets thing sounds like my toddler!

And cauliflower is not a carb.

amusedbush · 07/01/2018 12:10

Dr Atkins is rolling in his grave at you suggesting that cheese is a carb 😂😂

Anasnake · 07/01/2018 12:21

Do you serve garlic bread with pasta / lasagne ? As that's 2 carbs ???

StrawberryMummy90 · 07/01/2018 12:26

Beans/gravy with pie is a must! Sorry OP you’re the weird one.

I have a friend who has mash as a side when she has a plate of pasta. I find that really strange to be honest. Garlic bread, side salad is fine but mash? Don’t understand it.

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 12:27

Am not on about mash being a wet - beans and pie is two wets Grin

And no I do not have “food issues”.

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 12:28

Pasta and mash Shock

peppapigwouldmakelovelyrashers · 07/01/2018 12:28

yeah, you do.

Anasnake · 07/01/2018 12:29

How is pie wet ???

QforCucumber · 07/01/2018 12:33

I'm currently making sunday lunch, brocolli and cauli cheese, mash and gravy. Lasagne and garlic bread - that's double carbing. Or pizza and chips.
My favourite comfort food - macaroni cheese and garlic bread or chips, gravy and coleslaw. Yum.

x2boys · 07/01/2018 12:34

I suppose if it was a meat pie with gravy in the pie it could be wet ?

topcat2014 · 07/01/2018 12:34

What is this "no two wet things rule" - a new one on me!

MrsMaxwell · 07/01/2018 12:35

Yes the filling is wet Grin

OP posts:
Anasnake · 07/01/2018 12:38

Moist not wet - same as most meats, do you put gravy on a (moist) roast ?

BulletFox · 07/01/2018 12:38

A lot of people dislike scrambled eggs and baked beans together. I love it.
