Or do you not wash your feet and legs in the shower?

Just a simple as it sounds. When I have a shower if I am not washing my hair I wash my armpits, the front of my body and my nether regions. Maybe down each arm and sometimes my neck. Literally never ever ever wash my legs unless I am shaving them. Also my feet never ever get washed. Seriously.

My husband thinks I am totally disgusting. Am I being unreasonable here or does the water dripping down my body do enough for my legs and feet? I think it does.

I never wash my knees or elbows, or forearms. or back or feet. None of them smell.

Mumsnut
Godammit! Thats where i am going wrong😀

rubbishtalker · 23/12/2017 19:34

Thinking about it though I have dead skin on the backs of my heels, it doesn't look Bad but I could literally stick a pin into the skin at the bottom of my heels and I wouldn't feel it… In fact I have done this in the past… Could this be linked?

Armpits, neck, arms, bum, belly, under boob and groin all get a good soaping and rinse. It takes about 90 seconds all in. 90% of the time legs and feet just get rinsed as the suds run down. The only time they get special attention is in the high summer when I am preparing to fake tan. I don't have smelly feet and todate have never had any sort of fungal infection.

This level of daily showering and personal hygiene would have been unheard of when I was a child in the sixties. Weekly baths with shared water were the order of the day back then. We were probably smellier but we weren't less healthy.

jaggythistle · 23/12/2017 23:51

For spreadsheet purposes I gave up 99% of ironing someone between dc2 and 3.

But I shower and wash my hair every morning and always do my legs and feet. I just soap and rinse with the rest of me to wash off what I imagine to be any residual sweat. I'm a bar of soap + hands washer, if there's a column for implements/materials used.

And yes the dc are trained to wash all over including feet Grin

jaggythistle · 23/12/2017 23:52

sometime between dc

Was thinking of this thread while in the shower earlier. I focus mainly on other areas but my feet and legs get washed /scrubbed every shower too, getting harder to do as I'm 8 months pregnant

Katedotness1963 · 24/12/2017 02:53

If I can reach it, it's getting a going over with the shower net scrubby thing. Then out of the shower to dry myself on an old, rough towel. I love the feeling of those layers of skin coming off!

Reddlion · 24/12/2017 02:56

No I wash everywhere including my ass crack (sorry to be uncouth) I use an exfoliating sponge and scrub scrub scrub

treaclesoda · 24/12/2017 03:22

I wash my feet but not my legs. My legs get itchy with dry skin so I don't want to irritate them with soap or shower gel.

I'm teased by family and friends for having a nose like a bloodhound, so I don't think I'm one of these supposedly filthy people who is just immune to bad smells. Despite this, unlike a lot of people on mumsnet, I am not surrounded in daily life by people who stink. I commute by bus and can't remember the last time I noticed someone smelly. I've only encountered two smelly colleagues in my working life and the last one was about twelve years ago. My elderly parents haven't been able to bath or shower for months as they are too weak to stand up and rely on being washed with flannel and soap and even they don't smell bad.

OtterInDisgrace · 24/12/2017 03:26

Just because something doesn’t smell, it doesn’t mean it isn’t dirty.

gingergenius · 24/12/2017 03:37

The soapy foot scrubber is your friend here!

Or do you not wash your feet and legs in the shower?
speakout · 24/12/2017 07:04

OtterInDisgrace so what other things should I be watchful of in my dirty knees?

They don't smell, the skin is soft, they look clean, never any infections.

What exactly am I missing out on because I don't lather my knees?

I really don't get it- is it a spiritual thing?

Or is it that some people on Netmums will judge ?

speakout · 24/12/2017 07:12

treaclesoda- I am the same.

I am not surrounded by smelly people either. Yet I have a very sharp sense of smell. If someone has left an article of clothing in the house ( as happened last week- a scarf- with one sniff I can identify the owner.
Or if the kids have a bunch of playmates around and someone leaves a jumper I can smell it and know who it belongs to.
And thees are not bad smells, just everyday human smells.

I don't often come across people who smell very bad. My elderly mother has difficulty with a bath and shower so has a daily strip wash at the sink.
She never smalls bad.

Still worried about the fate of my unwashed knees.

rubbishtalker · 24/12/2017 07:56

Ginger I love this!!!

Whinesalot · 24/12/2017 08:02

I've heard it all now. I should be worried about my smelly knees Shock

As if I haven't got enough things to worry about Grin

GingerNutMarmite · 24/12/2017 09:31

OP I wash in the same way as you. I have wondered this too!

Never had any foot infections or anything like that. Never have smelly feet either!

I think especially for women who shave their legs, soap can be really drying and strip all those natural skin oils out.

Keep doing what you're doing!

Falconhoof1 · 24/12/2017 09:39

Has anyone thought of backs? I recently realised I never wash my back and thought I should get a back scrubber type thing.

TroysMammy · 24/12/2017 09:43

In the shower I wash my hair, armpits, nether regions and my front. Very rarely my arms, legs and feet. Never my back, ears or face. We are the minger twins Grin

TroysMammy · 24/12/2017 09:45

I never use a sponge, flannel or scrubby either my hands will do.

JacquesHammer · 24/12/2017 09:54

I've come to the conclusion my feet just don't smell much.

Having been unable to wash one for 8 weeks I thought it would smell really bad. It didn't. Barely smelled at all.

rubbishtalker · 24/12/2017 09:55

Falcon same, never wash my back, sometimes my shoulders as far as I can teach but that's it!

Ithink if you were having one bath a week or something then you might need to be a bit more thorough but I shower daily 💦

@rubbishtalker you're welcome!!! Grin

waterlego6064 · 28/12/2017 16:47

I don't wash my legs and feet (except as PPs said, feet occasionally in the summer). My feet don't smell at all and have no peeling skin or manky bits.
