Or do you not wash your feet and legs in the shower?

Just a simple as it sounds. When I have a shower if I am not washing my hair I wash my armpits, the front of my body and my nether regions. Maybe down each arm and sometimes my neck. Literally never ever ever wash my legs unless I am shaving them. Also my feet never ever get washed. Seriously.

My husband thinks I am totally disgusting. Am I being unreasonable here or does the water dripping down my body do enough for my legs and feet? I think it does.

Grim. I moisturise my entire body after showering and would feel like I was rubbing in ingrained dirt if I didn’t wash my legs and feet.

The soap running down your body in the shower doesn’t cover every single inch of your legs, it runs down in rivulets. Imagine that on a window, day after day. There would be certain parts of the window that appeared clean, and certain parts that never got the soap.

Honestly it’s kind of vile that people don’t wash legs and feet.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 23/12/2017 01:52

Taken from the Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists website:

With 250,000 sweat glands, feet do tend to sweat more than other parts of the body.
There are more sweat glands per inch in our feet than anywhere else in the body and their function is to keep the skin moist and therefore supple and regulate temperature when the weather is hot, if you have an unnaturally high temperature or while exercising. They secrete all the time, not just in response to heat or exercise, like elsewhere in the body.

My DBIL never washes his feet.......they smell.

We all wash our feet in our family but don't iron.

NKFell · 23/12/2017 01:57

Grin the horror from some of these posters is making me laugh!

Janetjanetjanet · 23/12/2017 02:02

Meh.

I wash my feet in summer as I wear sandals and have dusty feet. In winter it isn't really necessary.

Lots of people on here have sink washes - I never bother, isn't a shower just easier?

Janetjanetjanet · 23/12/2017 02:03

I've never ever had sweaty feet, ever.

beingsunny · 23/12/2017 02:17

Of course you should, it's hot here so I'm in things all day, my feet are grubby

mullmepopcorn · 23/12/2017 06:40

My feet are clearly not kept moist and flexible by those hundreds of sweat glands, which explains why they are dry and not smelly!

Whinesalot · 23/12/2017 09:03

I'm 50 and am still waiting for that foot infection.
Wouldn't using soap dry them out and then make them prone to infection through the resulting mini cracks?

Branleuse · 23/12/2017 09:05

I wash my feet in the shower if im not in a hurry

lurkingnotlurking · 23/12/2017 10:09

I just took a shower and washed my legs, feet AND EVEN MY LOWER BACK for you lot. And you know what, it made no difference.

helpfulperson · 23/12/2017 12:01

And this is why I have a bath - so much simpler!

Enwi · 23/12/2017 12:08

I don’t wash my legs or feet, unless I’ve been on a particularly muddy/wet dog walk. My feet NEVER smell... they just don’t ever seem to sweatHmm
I shave my legs weekly and exfoliate them then, but my legs are always covered so it’s not like the get mucky. Water runs down them and my feet stand in soapy, sudsy water whilst I wash my body, then clean fresh water after I’ve rinsed my body, and then get thoroughly dried when I get out the shower (which also helps exfoliate). I don’t see why I would start doing it now when I have no ill effects after 20 years of not washing them daily.

BatShite · 23/12/2017 12:15

Oh dear. No I have never washed my feet in the shower unless they have been visibly dirty.

I tend to bath more often than shower though (which will probably horrify mumsnet too!) and I do wash feet/legs then.

I will think of this thread each time I shower now. Its honestly not something I have ever thought about before Blush

streetlife70s · 23/12/2017 13:11

I’m so surprised that loads of mumsnettters, not even just the odd few, don’t wash their feet. It would never occur to me not to wash my feet. Like any other part of your body they need a clean and would smell otherwise no? Seems grim not to.

Each to their own though. But you learn some surprising things on here at times.

JenniferL90 · 23/12/2017 13:18

Only wash my feet if they get dirty or smelly. So in winter that’s basically never.

AstridWhite · 23/12/2017 13:26

I do as you do, except I do lift up and wash each of my feet. I figure my legs get enough of a wash just by having the soapy water run down them. Legs don't really get smelly, or dirty enough to require a thorough spongeing down very often.

Mumsnut · 23/12/2017 15:21

Applauds speakout

Esp for 'plodging'

spankhurst · 23/12/2017 15:23

Legs no, they're dry enough without soaping.
Feet yes, definitely.

speakout · 23/12/2017 15:37

streetlife70s

There are plenty body parts that I don't physically wash- as in soap up and lather.

None of them smell.

rubbishtalker · 23/12/2017 15:42

I have had a shower earlier on and I washed all down my legs back and fronts and all over my feet including between my toes 🙃 I don't feel any different.

Also I nearly fell over a few times in the shower. The 'water rivets' comment grossed me out a bit 🤢

'water rivets'

Grin
streetlife70s · 23/12/2017 16:01

I was going to ask you which parts speakout but decided against it Grin

I’m a full latherer. Working on the basis that if I ever did pong through lack of washing I’d be the last to know.

Maybe I’m just a soap waster!

LakieLady · 23/12/2017 16:29

I'm amazed so few on here wash their backs!

I wash every bit of myself, but now wonder if that's why the skin on my legs gets so dry. Maybe I'll miss them out for a while and see if it gets any better.

I iron very little though, just a few linen tops and dresses that I only wear in the summer.

Mumsnut · 23/12/2017 16:33

The more I wash, the more I need ironing
