AIBU to ask MNHQ if we can have a trans discussion section?

Out of the first 10 threads showing on my AIBU page 4 of them are trans threads. There is seriously no escaping, please can they have their own board?

Is this really the ONLY site where you can voice your concerns?

I think so. Many women have received abusive messages and rape threats after discussing this on Twitter. I don't imagine Facebook is much better. No idea about Netmums. Guardian usually closes comments under any article about trans issues and on the odd occasion they are open the moderators remove half the posts, including any that refer to biology, because Mother Nature is a big ol' transphobe.

Thank goodness for MN. I had my eyes opened by discussion here, and with every new trans thread I see another person posting to say they've been alerted to issues they were totally unaware of before and it's changing their view point.

What I find odd is people saying they're bored with endless discussion about these issues when the issues themselves are so important. It isn't a topic of interest only to a very few people to find that the government is pushing through a law that will make it a hate crime to refer to someone as 'he' if that person wants to be called 'she'. This has already happened in Canada and a university lecturer there is being disciplined for merely attempting to discuss pronouns in her class as some of the students found it offensive. All debate is being shut down. I find this terrifying.

CosmicCanary · 22/11/2017 07:52

I used to want the same thing as you OP.

I thought the trans threads were hystetical and could not see the harm transpeople mostly transwomen were causing or what the fuss was about.
About 18 months ago I actually read a few trans threads and looked in to what was being said. MN opened my eyes to what was actually happening and it worries me greatly.

Yesterday I was told on social media that:
Transwomen are biological women.
That lesbians who reject those with a female penis are transohobic.
That a man has had a womb transplant.
That giving puberty blockers to 13 yo is acceptable.
That a 19 yo man will represent women in the Labour party.
That a rapist and child sex offender should be allowed to go to a womens prison despite him still having a penis incase he tries to kill himself.
That sex is not fixed and humans can change their sex at will.

I could post all the violent threats and slurs that I saw yesterday directed at women who refuse to believe in the lady penis but they are too many and frankly quite distressing.

If you genuinly have no interest in such threads then just hide them.
I am grateful for the time and effort put in by posters on those threads as without them I would still be ignorant to the harm that is being caused by things like the gender ID bill.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 22/11/2017 07:52

No separate section. Add that to your finger count 🙄

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 22/11/2017 07:52

It's being talked about because it's topical. There changes in the law are on the horizon that will affect women, children and trans people negatively. It will affect some vulnerable women, children and trans people particularly badly.

I won't describe how, but if you could be bothered to actually read the threads with an open mind, you would know.

Just because it doesn't affect you personally doesn't mean it doesn't affect others.

You can expect to hear more about it as the proposed new laws are still on the cards and the media are finally waking up to the realisation that this is an issue and that the feminists are not bigoted or full of hate, we have a point.

This has got nothing go do with hating trans people. This is about opposing an ideology thst will do harm to a lot of people - including many trans people it claims to support.

If you don't give a fuck about vulnerable people or understanding about changes in socuety and the law could affect them, That's up to you.

But It's arrogant to think you understand what the threads are all about if you don't actually read them.

MN is genuinely one of the few places you can discuss this without censorship. You should celebrate that even if you don't like the topic.

Why the face girlintgefireplace?

Thegirlinthefireplace · 22/11/2017 07:55

And in response to the question. People repeat themselves over and over because others are not reading what they are actually saying (they appear to be seeing what they expect to see). As evidenced in this thread. Same old same old "bigot" shouts for saying men and women have different biology. How do you discuss with someone who responds like that.

jumpyfrog · 22/11/2017 07:57

🤚 Have to say MN has educated me too.

I hate the fact society is moving to a place where any debate is shut down, this is why Brexit & Trump were a surprise.

Skarossinkplunger · 22/11/2017 07:58

raisins

I have read threads, here and otherwise. Just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean I’m ignorant.

OP posts:
hibbledobble · 22/11/2017 08:02

Yes, I have had enough of these threads and the hysteria they generate. The people who post them aren't even capable of intelligent debate, instead they insult anyone who doesn't agree with them.

SolidarityGdansk · 22/11/2017 08:04

MN has educated me on this topic

I have never identified as a feminist (frothy or otherwise) until I hit 50.

If this was hidden away I would never have become aware of the impact of the self ID bill.

If you are not interested, don’t read. Easy. But for many of us it had been an eye opener.

misscockerspaniel · 22/11/2017 08:07

Thanks to MN, I am now aware of what is happening to womankind. I have gone from not being a feminist to lobbying because what is happening with the trans cult is unbelievable. Outside of MN, many people are finding themselves silenced from speaking out, so it is important for the issues to be discussed in mainstream threads and not tucked away out of sight.

AdalindSchade · 22/11/2017 08:08

The people who post them aren't even capable of intelligent debate, instead they insult anyone who doesn't agree with them

That's simply not true. There is masses and masses of intelligent debate. Maybe one in 100 posts is an insult, which gets shouted down by the gender critical posters as much as anyone else. The people I see insulting on threads like that are the ones who post 'you are all hateful bigots' then refuse to expand further.

Rebeccaslicker · 22/11/2017 08:10

I would never have clicked on a trans section because I simply thought live and let live.

If it weren't for these threads, I would have no idea of the very real and serious threat to us "non trans women" (seriously, what the actual fuck? Could men marginalise us any more??).

If you don't think it's important to try and find a balance that respects everyone's rights, and that drawing it to people's attention isn't hugely important, then what planet are you on? And why isn't it further away?!

FizzyWaterAndElderflower · 22/11/2017 08:12

The GRC will basically end up redefining the word 'woman' from 'adult human female' to 'any person who fills in a form'.

Think about how that will affect laws, statistics, health service provision.

I am a computer programmer. Before I make a change to an existing program I do an analysis to see what making that change will mean for the system. I'm just asking for the same to be done here.

Search through the laws and regulations for the word 'woman', switch it out for 'person' and see if that law still does what it should. If it doesn't then that needs to be dealt with before you change the definition of 'woman'

Spot on.

InfiniteSheldon · 22/11/2017 08:16

Absolutely not yabvu women's voices are already being silenced #nodebate indeed

SilverSpot · 22/11/2017 08:23

I would never have clicked on a trans section because I simply thought live and let live.

Same. Without reading some of these threads I never would have known or understood how women’s rights are being marginalised and degraded to give men born with all the physical and societal advantages of being, well men. In most cases trans-‘women’ have gone through testosterone fuelled puberty, further compounding the issue.

Feel loke you’re born in the wrong body? Diognosed gender dysmorphia? Taken hormones and had a surgical transition? GRC achieved? Fine.

Think that wearing lipstick and sucking a skirt on makes a woman and you want to be in a woman’s prison, changing room, act as woman’s officer wth your ‘female penis’, compete against women and girls in sport with your male testosterone mass - no no no NO NO NO

WE HAVE TO WAKE UP TO WHAT IS HAPPENING

LizzieSiddal · 22/11/2017 08:23

No I don’t want a delegate section.

The bollocks being spouted by some Trans people, reminds me of Orwell’s 1984. We ALL need to be aware of what is being passed for “truth”.

SolidarityGdansk · 22/11/2017 08:23

without MN, I would never have seen this photo

AIBU to ask MNHQ if we can have a trans discussion section?
SolidarityGdansk · 22/11/2017 08:25

Some young sportswoman would have not been selected for that team so that a Middle Ages man could take her place.

60sname · 22/11/2017 08:25

I hate the fact society is moving to a place where any debate is shut down, this is why Brexit & Trump were a surprise.

Or because people thought the left-leaning view they saw on social media was shared by all.

Hear hear, with bells on!

MrMeSeeks · 22/11/2017 08:28

Yanbu, i get fed up of seeing them, or going into a thread to find it's a trans topic!

MrMeSeeks · 22/11/2017 08:29

OP: AIBU
MN : YES
OP : no i'm not

Except that's not really the case here is it?

WineGummyBear · 22/11/2017 08:29

No separate section.

(And I agree with MrsTerryPratchett).

MN brought the GRA and it's implications to my attention. The VAST majority of people do not know what the proposals are.
