To want a dishwasher?

I suggested getting a dishwasher the other day to dh and he isn’t keen.

His argument against is that they waste lots of water, are noisy, you have to rinse everything 1st and it’ll never get used anyway as he claims to know many people who don’t use theirs (in work apparently) but the only person I know that he knows who doesn’t use theirs is his parents. But I reckon that’s because there’s only 2 of them there. When we stay, or after dinner parties, they use it.

We are a family of 4, I reckon we’ll use it daily!
My argument is is the fact that there are 4 of us and I feel like I spend quite a bit of my day washing dishes, or they end up taking a lot of space on the side (we have a very small kitchen with little worktop space as it is), so I could hide the dirty dishes in there until it’s full!

Everyone should have a dishwasher! It makes life so much easier and with most dishwashers you don't need to rinse anything first.

Generally they use less water so that’s not a valid argument

We just scrape the plates, don’t bother rinsing first unless it’s something that dries really solid, like weetabix or porridge.
I just clean out the filter once a week which catches any bigger bits of food we miss.
Saves us so much time and keeps the kitchen much tidier because after meals instead of hanging around on the sides to be washed the plates just do straight in the dishwasher and then we turn it on when it’s full.

You don't need to rinse first, they use less water then washing up and they aren't noisy. He's talking cobblers

Please please get a dishwasher. They are actually very economical with regard to water use. I still say thank you to mine every night. It's the best thing ever. There is no need to rinse anything. Just scrape off any solid food into the bin and you're good to go.

Assuming that you have the space and plumbing to install a dishwasher, then it is a big time saver.

People don’t have dishwashers? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have one and have never not had one since I moved out of home at 22. Even my uni digs had a dishwasher. Tell your dh to get stuffed.

Well he obviously knows best so unless he is happy to take on the whole of the dishwashing chores, just go ahead and get one. His arguments are bull anyway - there are 2 of us and we use ours every day.

A dishwasher is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. There are only 2 of us here, and its on every day. Now that I think of it, I used it when I was on my own. (Rinse and hold, repeat until full)

They use less water than washing up by hand, I can't hear ours at all, and we use it at least twice a day. Never rinse anything either, just scrape food off.

We’ve never owned one, my parents don’t own one either. It’s still quite a ‘posh’ item for me!

We’d have to move the washing machine in to the garage in order to fit one, but possible.

You don't rinse dishes first, scraping them is enough. Ours is really quiet and used every day. Doesn't use a lot of water either

We've just moved into a house with a dishwasher. There was no space in our old kitchen for one. It's only been a week but it's already been life changing!

I have been reliably informed too that it uses less water than washing up by hand and ours is definitely not loud.

1. It takes more water to wash by hand than in a dish washer.
2. You don't rinse anything before hand-you haven't needed to do this for ten or twenty years.
3. You will definitely use it-you wouldn't have suggested it if you saw no utility value
4. It's less noisy than washing by hand.

Ours is super quiet, we never rinse anything and as others have said, they use less water than washing up and everything is hygienically clean - you can't say that for washing by hand.

You can shove your fridge shelv s in there and they come out gleaming.

Modern dishwashers are quiet, use about 17l water in total, some even do top shelf only.
Apart from keeping the kitchen tidy, they stop germs spreading via drying up cloths.

I bloody love my dishwasher. We loved without one for 4 years when we moved. I’ve now restructured my tiny kitchen to fit a small one it. It’s my favourite appliance. Saves so much time and makes the kitchen so much tidier. No more dirty washing piles up/clean washing on the drainer.

Dishwashers use less than washing up ?

We had a dishwasher fitted last year, after five years without one - we had to get a carpenter in to rejig the kitchen, etc.

Worth every penny, I love it. It's actually drastically improved our lives (we both work full time and are crap at housework, and now we have a baby).

Concur with everyone else. The other really nice thing about having a dishwasher is that dirty dishes can go straight in and out of sight
