To buy a £300 Christmas tree?

A Balsam Hill one.

I deeply dislike the look of fake trees usually which means we spend £50+ every year on a real one, which then spends January forlorn in the garden before we get round to chopping it up and getting rid of it. It’s a ball ache.

I’ve read lots of amazing things about the BH realistic ones, and I’ve seen one we like online but it’s £318! I don’t mind investing in it but I’ve never seen one in real life and I’d rather not chuck them £30 for a sample as that seems an utter pisstake.

Does anyone here have one? Do they look super real or is it hype? The reviews are good tbf but I wanted to canvas opinions before we commit to it.

I've just noticed that the brochure I received has a code for 10% off which expires 21 November 2017, if this helps anyone that can't decide before tomorrow. It's JOY2017.
Also on their website is this list of discount codes which may or may not work out better for you.

To buy a £300 Christmas tree?
HappyEverIftar · 13/11/2017 04:49

Just bought a BH tree off the back of this thread Grin and I doubt I’m the only one!

OP I think you should flag this to BH and get some commission!

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 07:21

HappyEverIftar which one did you go for? My mind is boggled and I just can't decide...

Roussette · 13/11/2017 08:18

Thanks you lot, I was up till god knows what time trying to choose a BH tree and still haven't managed it yet!

We bought an artificial one when DC1 was born and she's late twenties.now! My reason for doing so was cack handed DH picked up the watered in a tub real christmas tree the previous year and dropped it. Wet mud spread all over the carpet and I thought... I cannot cope with this and a baby every year! At the time I bought it from JL and I remember what I paid, it was a huge amount I thought - £60. So I deserve a new one don't i? Please tell me yes, old one is 28 years old and probably looks it, realistic trees will be soooo much better now (talking myself into it Grin)

I want a 7ft but just worried the slim ones will make a 7fter look skinny. Got to look again...

Floralnomad · 13/11/2017 08:31

The 7’ narrow Fraser fir from BH is definitely not skinny IMO .

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 08:40

Roussette we are in the same boat! Well, I've been with dh for 9 years now, and we have two kids together. The cheap Argos fake tree we get down from the loft each year is one his ex wife chose when they were together 13+ years ago !! I hate it.

Btw when you said "Please tell me yes, old one is 28 years old and probably looks it" I thought you were talking about your daughter Grin You definitely deserve a new tree this year Smile

Floralnomad I've read a few reviews that say the narrow trees are not actually narrow (I think its because they're an American country and we have different ideas about what narrow is...).

You lot are making me reconsider a 7ft one now, after deciding last night to stick with a 6ft one in case the 7ft looks too big/tall Confused We are in a 1930's semi, so nice high ceiling (approx 7.5ft ish).

CredulousThickos · 13/11/2017 08:48

I think as long as there’s five or six inches clearance a big one will look fine.

We’ve gone for a six footer just because it’s going in the bay window and last time we had a big one it made the room really really dark.

Roussette · 13/11/2017 08:51

Goingrogue sometimes I need a new DD yes, but I do have a spare Grin

Just going to measure the height of our room before I order, I just read someone on another thread saying they wished they got 7ft...

Roussette · 13/11/2017 09:21

Going for 6.5ft as our ceiling is only 7.5ft!

Bridezilla2be · 13/11/2017 09:36

I have a voucher for an extra 20% off including sale items if anyone wants to try it? Really want one of these trees but just can’t justify it yet! Halo

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 09:37

Roussette good compromise! Which one?!

Roussette · 13/11/2017 09:55

This one. It is a full tree and 56inches at widest point which is probably flippin enormous but we do put it at the end of a room so no worries as such but just put a tape measure down with 56inches on and had a panic

I used a voucher code and got £25 off but misse out on an extra 20% dammit!

HappyEverIftar · 13/11/2017 10:11

GoingRouge went for the 6’ European Silver Fir (lit). DH is American and he suggested the narrow one given the dimensions of our cottage. I’m very excited! Almost bought the potted tree for the hallway, it looked so pretty. Going to have to look again in what I hope will be, a new year sale Smile

Floralnomad · 13/11/2017 10:12

Perhaps we should try and get Balsam Hill mumsnet approved .

HappyEverIftar · 13/11/2017 10:13

Should have said I wanted to buy the potted one, but will look again in the new year

HappyEverIftar · 13/11/2017 10:14

Oh my goodness I need to edit myself and read things properly before posting Confused

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 10:20

Bridezilla2be yes please! When does yours expire? Someone kindly pm'd me one last night which expires today (and I couldn't get it to work).

Roussette looks amazing! I've been looking at the dimensions carefully as we only really have one place to put it. 56" is very wide, think I'd be happy with a 45" tbh.

Just measured and we could get a 7ft tall one and still have 10" clearance.

Pommes · 13/11/2017 10:23

@Bridezilla2be Ooo, another code. Yes please if it can be used for more than one purchase? I’m hoping to order today.

Roussette · 13/11/2017 10:23

Going yes 56inches IS very wide hence the panic but the others just weren't right so hoping this won't be a big regret! Anything's gotta be better than our ancient artificial one which I'm taking up the charity shop!

CMOTDibbler · 13/11/2017 10:31

We bought one in August when the tree we wanted was 70% off. We had a B&Q one for years, then did real trees, but we were fed up of only being able to have them up for 2 weeks, needle shedding etc. Can't wait to get it out!

doodle01 · 13/11/2017 10:46

buy the tree no presents though

GoingRogue · 13/11/2017 10:53

GoingRogue

I have had my tape measure out and decided that 50"+ is going to be too wide for my corner. Also decided 6.5ft tall would be just right.

So using the filters on their website

6.5ft
Pre-lit clear LED lights
Most Realistic
Narrow shape

They don't exist! So going to either have to bite the bullet and go for 7ft narrow (will still have 10" clearance/for a tree topper) or compromise on the shape and get a full one and worry it'll look cramped. Gah.

Bridezilla2be · 13/11/2017 11:47

I’ve PM’d you both with the code, don’t know if it’s single use or not so sorry if it doesn’t work!

Pommes · 13/11/2017 11:51

Thank you @Bridezilla2be!

@GoingRogue, it’s only right that you try first as you asked first. If you let me know once you’ve ordered then I’ll try to use it too.

OliviaPopeRules · 13/11/2017 12:23

If anyone has a 20% code not being used I would be really grateful if you could pm as I’m ordering today. Thanks
