Fucking arsehole.

Not content with fat shaming his son and using the word “retarded” because he is an arsehole. His only worry about his son is that he might grow up far. He isn’t worried if this happens to his daughter as “there are uses for fat women”.

Fucking arsehole.

Latest article in Esquire magazine.

No Giles, you’re not funny or satirical....you’re a fucking arsehole.

I don’t care what MY son becomes as long as he isn’t a dickhead like you.

wizzywig · 11/11/2017 10:48

Oh my god. What an eye opener. I liked him in that programme woth sue perkins. He is an utter dick.

Fekko · 11/11/2017 10:50

Just read it. 😶

Squashit · 11/11/2017 10:51

Cap my point re ASD-

I made the suggestion given the possible indicators I had picked up on.

I said it was possible due to his self expressed long standing issues.

I have made no judgement re ASD violence/sexual inappropriateness but noted these traits particular to him might be indicative when considering them as a pattern of behaviour.

Do you understand my point now?

Caprinihahahaha · 11/11/2017 10:56

I understood your point the first time you made it and explaining it doesn't improve it to be honest .

You clearly feel that the thread needs your baseless suggestions that he might have asd but given that all you have achieved is casually linking an attention seeking arsehole with a condition which affects the children of several contributors to the thread I'm not sure it does.

Squashit · 11/11/2017 11:04

Well that is your view. I find it limited and biased in it’s own way.

You think (baselessly also) he is an attention-seeking arsehole and I think there may be another possible explanation.

Neither of us know we are just offering an opinion.

Have a nice day.

Caprinihahahaha · 11/11/2017 11:17

The fact that he consistently writes clickbait articles is evidence that he is attention seeking - it's his job.
He is also evidently an arsehole because he uses 'retard' which the vast majority of reasonable people recognise is offensive and it was removed from the full article because it is obviously so

You chose to excuse this nonsense by giving vague references to stuff he's said which might indicate asd. The stuff you referenced could also be narcissism, he could be a sociopath, he might be engaged in some kind of sibling rivalry, he could be dealing with the fall out from being a sad shadow of his father. But you chose ASD
Hmm

I could just as easily say that from your patronising mansplaing tone you are a man, that your evident irritation at being disagreed with mean you have an inferiority complex and your indifference to the fact that you have offended several posters means you are narcissistic .
I suspect I am wrong which is why it's best not to diagnose via the internet because you just offend people

BuzzKillington · 11/11/2017 11:17

Wow - just read the walking article. That was, er, honest Shock

ThisNameNow · 11/11/2017 11:39

He does seem weirdly focused on and angry at people who are overweight. It's like he really hates 'fat' people and actively wants to upset and embarrass them. There is a maliciousness about the way he writes and tweets that's not right.

For someone of his supposed intelligence and media savvy'ness to have tweeted about raping his neighbors 12 year old child because he has a drum kit is as strange as it is abhorrent.

Squashit · 11/11/2017 11:40

Cap -Nope just still your personal view/bias dressed up otherwise. I am not irritated I just want to communicate my view and not be judged incorrectly as saying something when I haven't. I try and be sensitive to everyone I come across and have direct experience of ASD for over 20 years- so my views are not coming from a place of ignorance.

The point I was making is I think sometimes it is more helpful to look at the pattern of behaviour rather than what is being said.
You potentially could be verbally abusing someone with a serious disorder. Potentially.

An argument doesn’t hold much water if you are rallying against people being offensive in what they write if you are being offensive yourself in the terms you use and with your own unchecked bias.

One to keep in mind.

ThisNameNow · 11/11/2017 11:42

Wow - just read the walking article. That was, er, honest

I wonder how many people avoid shaking his hands after reading that article. 🤢 😂

Caprinihahahaha · 11/11/2017 11:49

Good lord Squashit
You really are turning yourself inside out to justify your linking arseholery with ASD

Having 20 years experience means nothing if you can't come on a chat thread without recognising what dangerous nonsense that it.

Your experience seems to have given you a disproportionate regard for your own nonsense

Goldenbear · 11/11/2017 11:51

I won't be able to watch that back in time programme now without thinking how he's judging the family and their children in their weight. The thing is his son looks like he has a similar build to his Dad with a roundish face- it's like he's loathing his own genes. Your children are not going to look like Rodney(only fools and horses) if you look more like Del. He looks like a normal sized child to me, not that that is relevant.

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 11/11/2017 11:52

My reaction to Giles Coren ranges from vague irritation that his nonsense articles take up room in mainstream media to occasional amusement at a restaurant review or TV appearance, but this article is distressing because he basically throws his own four year old under the metaphorical bus. He has no right to do this. I'm astonished his wife allowed this article to be published too.

I also think in general that this sort of clickbait stuff is dragging our society into a bad place. Why are we airing our contempt for others (size, colour, class etc) so often without consequence? Why do so many rich white people, mostly men, get platforms to tell us how inferior the rest of us are, and find it hilarious behind the doors of their members' clubs that they have yet again managed to offend the 'professionally offended', i.e. those who are constantly told NOT to be upset by these attacks on them or those they respect? How fucked up is all that?

Goldenbear · 11/11/2017 11:54

Mind you, on the back in time programme the family are all slim and long so he probably has some unjustifiable admiration for them.

Anyone who calls their son a ‘chubby fucker’ deserves to be hauled up by social services. What a disgusting article that was.

Copperkettles · 11/11/2017 11:58

His wife finds it amusing it would seem.

What a pair of twats.

Giles Coren.....AIBU to want to punch him in the face?
Squashit · 11/11/2017 12:01

Wow you do have issues Cap. You really need to look at how you communicate with people and how rude you could be perceived as being. Look at why you feel the need to do that.

I have said what I need to say and don’t need to be a focus for your negativity.

Hiding thread now as this is not constructive and as such not something I choose to engage with.

Caprinihahahaha · 11/11/2017 12:16

I feel the need to say it because people with asd do not need further stigmatisation by people casually linking their condition with rape, inapppropriate sexual thoughts about children, murder and aggression.

You are not a 'focus for my negativity'. I am simply not allowing your nonsensical 'he might have asd' schtick go unchallenged .
But you go ahead and feel persecuted by all means

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 11/11/2017 12:19

His wife must be in thrall to him. 'Gosh my husband is so daring, look at him breaking all these taboos. Tee her hee'

Shame she doesn't have the same devotion to her kids.

Scabbersley · 11/11/2017 12:19

It's quite, erm demented out there to say you would care less if your son became a crackhead than if he was fat.

Are you sure he's the full ticket?

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 11/11/2017 12:28

Caprini “You chose to excuse this nonsense by giving vague references to stuff he's said which might indicate asd. Hear hear!!

Non of us know what the heck is wrong with this man, the way he writes about himself, his family and others, is not “right”. But to try to suggest the reason may be something as complex as ASD, is not right either.

Caprinihahahaha · 11/11/2017 12:44

IfYouGoDownToTheWoods

I'm coming to the conclusion it's another way that the world seems find desperate measures to excuse men for being arseholes.
The relationships threads often feature 'might he have asd?' after tales of rude, boorish and bullying behaviour.
The leap to 'poor him, he may be privately in torment' was bloody fast.
It's like Weinstein and Spacey immediately getting into rehab - men are never just vile, it's quickly flipped into some kind of suffering that excuses them

April229 · 11/11/2017 13:07

Nasty. How would you refer to your young child as a ‘chubby fucker’ ?
