Fucking arsehole.

Not content with fat shaming his son and using the word “retarded” because he is an arsehole. His only worry about his son is that he might grow up far. He isn’t worried if this happens to his daughter as “there are uses for fat women”.

Fucking arsehole.

Latest article in Esquire magazine.

No Giles, you’re not funny or satirical....you’re a fucking arsehole.

I don’t care what MY son becomes as long as he isn’t a dickhead like you.

stop - "I stand corrected and that's not a term you often see here"

I want to say yay, but I don't mean that patronisingly. Hope you know what I mean.

I think Roosh V talked about his rape manual as "satire". I don't know if GC has ever said that about his own work, but honestly I think there's some stuff out there that is so nasty, some people think it's satire when it's not?

Yarboosucks · 10/11/2017 20:26

I thought his was going to be one of those prissy MN threads, but then I read some of GC's columns and his wiki entry. He is a bell end indeed.

His father was clever, as is his sister, Giles the poor relative.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 10/11/2017 20:27

I do Grin I often post very fast on here with a gut reaction without really thinking .
A lot of people do actuallly and they rarely back down either . I think that even when things don't offend me it's worth reading a bit to see that they do genuinely upset others

Pagwatch · 10/11/2017 20:34

Stopfuckingshouting

Cheers. Grin

I think there an extent to which we can all treat some offensive language as being impolite rather than hurtful.
I loath retarded. I particularly hate people who think that you can use retarded as long as you don't aim it at someone with LDs.
I find it horrible that when people are reaching for the most awful thing they can use as an insult they use a term to do with my lovely, gentle, sweet son.

I wonder how Giles Coren would like it if someone wanted to find the worst possible name to call someone they used Giles.
"Jesus, take your hands out of your pants and stop fumbling with your bollocks, you look like a total GilesCoren"

SecretSmellies · 10/11/2017 20:37

Pag you could turn that into a meme.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 10/11/2017 20:43

I think the term “Giles” could be very useful, for all those occasions when one instinctively wants to use the word “gobshite”, but polite social conventions prohibit it.

Whilst his sister is on BBC1 - I suppose that must hurt…. and probably makes him come even quicker

TheAntiBoop · 10/11/2017 21:16

You know that German word that translates as 'a face in need of a slap'

I reckon we could use Giles Coren

cluelessnewmum · 10/11/2017 22:18

It is shameful that he has said those things about his son, it's so cheap to use your kids as click bait and I hope when his son is old enough to understand he never forgives his narcissistic father.

But it's worse that he (and Esquire clearly) thinks its OK to publish something where the word "retarded" is used in this way. I just don't understand why in 2017 (with sometimes excessive levels of political correctness) it is still deemed OK to mock people with mental disabilities. Is it because they're too vulnerable a group to object? If he had equated any race or religion with being fat, Esquire would have not published it.

I hope this ends his mediocre career in journalism.

I saw him in the street a few months ago. I was out for a run. I am overweight. I knew who he was and I think he could tell. I also knew what he thinks about fat people. I could almost read what he was thinking. Not good.

I don't know why he has such a problem with fat people.

He also has a problem with women who work (wrote a column once about how he wanted a wife who would sah because no way was his kid going to nursery and obviously he wasn't going to do the drudgery required). Maybe he has a problem with women full stop.

cluelessnewmum · 10/11/2017 22:41

To be serious, people in the national press using language like “retarded” is actually a problem for those of us who watch our kids struggle with prejudice against people with SN every fucking day.

Couldn't agree more Karlos, it perpetuates the idea that it is still acceptable to use this sort of language.

If Giles Coren wants to remotely make amends, as well as a public apology, he should go and spend some time with some kids and adults who have had to tolerate bring called names like "retarded" all their lives and then go home and be thankful that all he has to worry about is if his child is a little fat (which he isn't). Then he should make a significant donation (the fee he earned for this article at the very least) to a charity like Mencap.

sadiemm2 · 10/11/2017 22:44

I think he probably went through a puppy fat phase, was teased and is filled with self loathing. I'm fat, for various reasons, food only a small part, and I think he's an odious little prick. He knows he'll get column inches and media frenzy by bollocking fatties. The retarded thing was vile. Just vile.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 10/11/2017 23:00

Sorry - I don't find him satirical, and neither is it a reflection of my sense of humour /absurdity. He's just an offensive little prick

Arkestra · 10/11/2017 23:29

Though Giles tries to be obnoxious, it's difficult to hate him: the self-loathing steams off the page; clearly he is not a happy bunny.

It can't be fun when your dad and sister are better than you in your chosen field of writing - and your sister has won the World Poker Championship to boot, so she even gets more guy credits.

I'd probably feel more strongly about him if I had to work with him, but as it is thankfully I can just shake my head sadly and move on...

diddlemethis · 10/11/2017 23:41

I think his style of writing is a reflection of our times. Giles needs clicks to pay his salary, and he can’t get those without reaction. We don’t react to reasonable and educated (boring) voices, but we do react when we are enraged.

We get the journalism we deserve.

ginteresting · 10/11/2017 23:45

He’s a male Katie Hopkins. He is paid well to do vile posts (click bait) to make people talk about it. The idea is to make people up in arms, some (idiots) will say he’s only saying what everyone is thinking, those people
are arseholes. Throwing his own children under the bus, new low.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 10/11/2017 23:53

There’s nothing he won’t stoop to is there?

About 20 posters on this thread are funnier than him, and still we have this gobshite making a living out of writing instead Angry

I want to join twitter just to give him a bollocking.

PickAChew · 10/11/2017 23:59

I used to find him entertaining, even if i didn't always agree with him, but he had the most enormous twitter meltdown, last year and was rude to many, along the way and I've not seen hi attempt to be anything but an odious wanker, ever since.

I bet Victoria gives him That Look, when they meet up.

Growingboys · 10/11/2017 23:59

I used to work with him years ago and tried to fancy him as he was older than me and obviously well connected, but try as I might, he remained an unappealing little toad.

Bored of his wife copying Does My Bum on Insta too.

And it’s not satire btw.

RosaTheOwl · 11/11/2017 00:03

Why would anyone by sympathetic to this guy just because he's the least successful in family? This doesn't change what a loathsome creature he is.

Just had a look on Twitter, it really is worth the conversation...he might actually get sacked over this one, though I'm sure he's sucking off someone to get all this work so it would be temporary but you know, still better than nothing.

Esquire editing out the word "retarded" means there's still a few people who think it's about fat shaming and clearly don't know his history....so it's good to give this publicity. Let him write a diary in a sewer or something.

GameofPhones · 11/11/2017 00:04

Just another tedious contrarian trying to shock.

RosaTheOwl · 11/11/2017 00:06

Diddle "I think his style of writing is a reflection of our times"

It's been the same since he started, but I think of "our times" as a much shorter period, you might be thinking 20 years etc I guess.
