Just that really!
We had a super time in the Cotswolds (exhausting year, small children, couldn't face flights and high temps... this was perfect - house on lake with lots of super amenities - water activities for the older kids and beautiful walks locally, country pubs , quaint villages and relaxing.

May I be the first to say we didn't have one. Or last year, or for the foreseeable future. (finance and health issues)

Glad yours was good though!

Not sure of the point of this thread!

SentientCushion · 29/08/2017 09:26

That sounds lovely glamorous.
Me and dh spent 5 nights in Majorca in an Airbnb. It was wonderful but feels a long time ago now.
I am also going to Disneyland with my nieces and sister at the end of the month, my grandma paid as a once in a lifetime style thing and I'm very excited.

Wanderlust1984 · 29/08/2017 09:30

A week in the Algarve and a week in Eurodisney. The Algarve was fab!! Hate Disneyland but DD loved it

regisitme · 29/08/2017 09:32

I'm in Australia and took 3 teenage girls to South Stradbroke island, off the coast of Queensland. I got us a 3 bed AirBnB on the island, we flew up to QLD and then I took them on a water taxi from the mainland. It was a huge amount of fun - I was really worried but they were great fun. I think we're going to do it again next year!

Dowser · 29/08/2017 09:32

Awww fuzzy custard🍹
Tenerife was great as usual
Scotland crap weather, actually wanted to come home. That was a first
Wales ..fabulous. Still here

nancy75 · 29/08/2017 09:33

2 weeks is Nerja in an air b&b had a great time! Never been before, liked the place, villa was fabulous but disappointed with the beaches (nobody told me they were pebbles!)

TimeafterTimeafterTime · 29/08/2017 09:33

Well, as it's in Chat, I'm guessing OP wanted to chat about holidays!

allegretto · 29/08/2017 09:34

We stayed at a youth hostel in the peak district as recommended by a mumsnetter - was great! Lovely walks sometimes in the rain and other kids around for mine to find someone to play with.

streetface · 29/08/2017 09:35

We went to Cuba. I thought it was great the kids got to see how some people live and learn to appreciate their lives, (they visited traditional family homes that were little more than huts) but aside from that, I learned children don't really give a damn where they are as long as it's got a beach, pool and stuff to do.
They told me afterward they preferred Benidorm or Majorca as there was more 'fun stuff' like arcades, shops and activities.
So I learned to leave any far away or exotic holidays for adults only and to never feel guilty if we cannot afford something 'amazing' as it is only 'amazing' to us grown ups.

Hoppinggreen · 29/08/2017 09:36

Lovely
Went to Germany in April and Spain in May
Usually holiday in The UK in the summer but did a last minute week in French Alps to visit friends in July
Also just come back from a long weekend in Durham in a nice hotel

Penny4UrThoughts · 29/08/2017 09:37

Fabulous! Went to Barcelona and to the Spanish Grand Prix. Kinda want to do it all again next year (but the people I went with won't be able to go so not sure yet.. Might go solo)

streetface · 29/08/2017 09:38

Well, I for one am glad you started this thread OP because I am really keen to hear about other people's holidays. A family holiday is something I feel is very important to us personally and I am always looking for ideas and other people's experiences.

lauramcd86 · 29/08/2017 09:40

@nancy75 do you mind me asking about your airb&b? Would love a holiday!! Have an 11 wk old and have heard great things about nerja.

teaandakitkat · 29/08/2017 09:41

Ours was damp. We live in Scotland and spent our holidaya in Scotland and I think it rained every single day. It felt like it did anyway. But we had fun all the same

CMOTDibbler · 29/08/2017 09:41

We went camping in mid Wales and it was absolutely perfect! Great weather, super relaxed, the site was beautiful as usual and it didn't cost a lot either

YouTheCat · 29/08/2017 09:42

Don't know. I've never had one.

Been to the cinema twice. Been to two small, free gigs. Went to the theatre for the opening night of Young Frankenstein which was utterly amazing and Mel Brooks was there .

MirandaWest · 29/08/2017 09:43

We went to Mallorca. First time I'd deliberately gone on a holiday knowing it would be warm. Had a lovely villa and all enjoyed ourselves.

Fairytalefancies · 29/08/2017 09:43

How old are your Dc streetface?

Curlyshabtree · 29/08/2017 09:44

Spent 2 weeks at my parents who live in a semi rural location ( we live inner city). DH is at home renovating bathroom. We've had a great time, fab weather, plenty of catch ups with family and friends, country walks, picnics, geocaching. Kids love being with gps, I love being here! We are mega skint so we've been able to have an almost free holiday. Petrol has been the main expense.
Goes to show that you don't need to spend a fortune to have a marvellous time. Kids have loved the freedom of the outdoors (no garden at home)

RiversrunWoodville · 29/08/2017 09:44

It was a catalogue of minor disasters which luckily we managed to laugh off or we'd have cried! Scotland first night was a bnb with a woman who was a clean freak. Shoes off at the door, use coasters, please remember this is my home you are in , this was the bnb marketed as a farm with animals to see near the town we wanted for a boat next morning, no animals to be seen and 30 mins away from town. Next stop an island, lovely hotel for 2 nights but 1st night fire alarm goes off at 11pm, turns out someone had a birthday cake in their room. Also the veggie breakfast option was kedgeree (with fish Confused). Next stop right up at the top, really the middle of nowhere absolutely gorgeous, no mobile service one track roads for 50 miles type place (gorgeous!), 1st night power cut (only one who cared was dd1 but she freaked out). Last stop outside Edinburgh hotel decides to put us in some kind of spare attic, absolutely freezing, radiator not working staff all dealing with a wedding eventually managed to dig out an electric heater then when I went to close the curtains over the window that was so high you couldn't see out I find the sill covered in bird poo inside. Frantic googling all accommodation full but after complaining with photographic evidence we got moved in the morning, new room lovely

Fairytalefancies · 29/08/2017 09:44

How old are your Dc streetface?

TheFairyCaravan · 29/08/2017 09:44

We haven't been yet. DH and I are off to Menorca in two weeks time. I can't wait, we've not been there for years.

The kids (20 & 22) went to Marmaris a couple of weeks ago. They said it was a dump, but they said parts of Turkey they went on trips to were lovely.

deadringer · 29/08/2017 09:44

We went to London for the first time for a few days with the dc, it was amazing! My dh also surprised me with a weekend away for our anniversary, a tour of Jane Austen sites of interest, Steventon, Chawton, Bath and Winchester. Not very glamorous perhaps but very special to me. (We are not from Britain and i am a massive Austen fan). We have had lots of years when we had no holiday at all though.

Penny4UrThoughts · 29/08/2017 09:47

Well, as it's in Chat, I'm guessing OP wanted to chat about holidays!

Your mumsnet must be different to mine, as in mine it's in AIBU.

missanony · 29/08/2017 09:48

It was lovely. Warm, sunny, new places, food and booze. Fantastic apartment.
