Just that really!
We had a super time in the Cotswolds (exhausting year, small children, couldn't face flights and high temps... this was perfect - house on lake with lots of super amenities - water activities for the older kids and beautiful walks locally, country pubs , quaint villages and relaxing.

Mine is happening NEXT WEEK- woohoo! (It's actually my honeymoon - I got married in April). Three nights in New York, four nights in Orlando and seven nights in Key West.

I've had NO time off from work all year as I have been saving it all for this and I can't bloody wait.

MrsCharlieD · 30/08/2017 18:23

We just did centre Parcs this year as I'm 8 months pregnant. Ds enjoyed it and surprisingly so did we! Loads to do and we are out every night, it was great.

Just booked Tenerife for next year though as I desperately wanted a foreign holiday to look forward to.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 30/08/2017 18:37

We had to cancel because DD(8) was in hospital having tests.
However as they had been testing for something life threatening and instead discovered its a very rare but completely not serious thing I'm not that bothered about the lack of holiday now.

mumontherun14 · 30/08/2017 18:37

We did 2 weeks in Tenerife at the start of July (Scottish school holidays) went to Golf de Sur it is quieter and cheaper than the main resorts but you can still get there in a taxi. DS 13 and DD10 loved it but it was a bit quiet for them but nice and relaxing. Since we've been back in Scotland the weather hasn't been great and kids are back to school now and it has eventually got a bit nicer!Typical x

PeaFaceMcgee · 30/08/2017 18:42

Crap. Stayed in a caravan site in Paignton via Airbnb. Turned out dated van was next to the entertainment building and twas really really loud until gone midnight every day. Bad soft mattress too - kept Rollin into the middle together. Came home early :(

Sirzy · 30/08/2017 18:46

Lovely. Hard work and tiring but lovely.

Day at legoland, day at Windsor castle then down to Weymouth for a week. No rain at all.

Only down side was the 10 hour trip back to the north west!

Sirzy · 30/08/2017 18:47

sparkly glad it's not as bad as feared, hope you all get a break soon

MaureenMLove · 30/08/2017 18:51

Mine was as wonderful as ever. We go to Fuerteventura, where we meet lots of friends from around the country and world, who all share the same sporting interest and we have an absolute ball.

Always hate coming home and spend the next couple of weeks number crunching to see if I can afford to live there yet! Alas, it's still not the right time. Sad. Couple more weeks and I'll be able to book for the next trip though! Smile

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 30/08/2017 18:59

I had 10 days in a caravan 3 minutes from Black Rock Sands beach, just DD (10) and me.

It was lovely, weather when it was good was very good, but we also had a fair bit of rain.

Still walked lots, ate and drank plenty and DD played out until 9.30 every night!

PhilMitchellDeflating · 30/08/2017 19:03

A week in the Dordogne in a lovely gite. Our first self catering holiday as a family, which I was wary of but was fine. Beautiful surroundings, loved the peace and quiet and waking up to nothing but Lavender fields and sunflowers.

DH took DS to Nice with his family while I had a wild week in Croatia with some friends.

Both very different, but both were wonderful!

Knottyash5 · 30/08/2017 19:07

We went to Jersey in May and had amazing weather except one day.

We went to Germany in August and had good weather a couple of days, indifferent weather a couple of days and one day when it rained all day and was about 12 degrees!

The hols were ok but teenage dc is nearly 15 and it is difficult working out how to keep dc entertained. Made me wonder if it's really worth booking anything for next year. If we do, we'll do short breaks eg 4 nights so there's not enough time to get bored. The holiday village type thing with teen club is my idea of hell, so that's not an option although I suspect dc would like it. Maybe. There was scope for water sports on Jersey for example but whenever I suggested it, it was a flat no. Xbox and swimming/cycling are the only things that are of interest!

mogulfield · 30/08/2017 19:08

slide I LOVE the keys, total tropical paradise. There's a national park with the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, so jealous!

SparklyUnicornPoo · 30/08/2017 19:09

Sirzy Thanks, hoping to go away over half term.

alltouchedout · 30/08/2017 19:10

Lovely. We stayed in Kessingland for a week. We had great weather and lots of fun, no major meltdowns from any of the dc(!), would like to go back next year. Ds3, who will be 3 at the end of November, called the chalet "my party house" for reasons only known to him. I think chalets will forever be known as party houses in our family now :)

donajimena · 30/08/2017 19:11

We went to Salou. We usually go to nerja but as the children have got older they were getting a bit restless in Nerja. I was dreading it because its not as charming as nerja but it was actually one of the most fun family holidays we have been on all due to Portaventura etc. I would recommend it to anyone with young teens.

SunnyCoco · 30/08/2017 19:13

@nancy75
Eh? There are amazing big wide sandy beaches in Nerja!

Titsywoo · 30/08/2017 19:14

We are on a budget massively due to a loft conversion about to start so we went to Haven to stay in a caravan with my friend and her kids. Had a fab time and it was cheap as chips. Weather was really good and the kids were in the pool everyday - we drank wine and gossiped all evening. Who needs a holiday abroad anyway? Grin

blueskyinmarch · 30/08/2017 19:14

Wet. Was in the west of Scotland. Beautiful. But wet.

susannahmoodie · 30/08/2017 19:16

Brilliant summer:

3 days in Belfast stayed in premier inn - titanic quarter, w5, and Antrim coast inc Giants causeway and carrick a Reid

1 week sc in Connemara. Never been before and fell in love.

1 week sc in Yorkshire Dales. Pretty. Castles, Long walks, tea rooms, abbeys, gardens, waterfalls, board games.

So all in all a great success.

Next year undecided? Poss France - maybe near French Alps?

Or Ireland again

Or ferry to Holland and do Efteling??

orenisthenewblack · 30/08/2017 19:19

We had an all-inclusive staycation! I stopped dieting for the week, eat out, takeaways, local tourist attractions the lot. Had a fab time! Hoping to go away next year though and see the sun!

TattiePants · 30/08/2017 19:19

We are still on our holidays - currently at Center Parcs on the Belgium / Netherlands border and it's really lovely. We don't do beach holidays and I hate really hot weather so we are spending 18 nights travelling around Belgium and the Netherlands. We've visited cities, hired boats, swam in lakes and cycled. We are already planning a similar trip next year taking in some more countries.

bigbluebus · 30/08/2017 19:31

Had 5 days in an AirBnB in Porto in April. Lovely city - not quite as much to see as Lisbon (which we did last year) but nevertheless beautiful and friendly.

Went on an AI package holiday to Sicily in May (1st package holiday for about 24 years). Great food and friendly people. Loved the part of the Island which we saw (SW)

Just got back from a week in France staying in a gite we booked through AirBnB. Flew to Limoges and hired a car. Stayed on the edge of a village but the area was very rural. French life is like going back 30 years in the UK. Very laid back and relaxing holiday.

All 3 trips were without DS for the 1st time. He took himself off to Stockholm and then Vienna for a week where he had a great time soaking up the culture, visiting museums and enjoying the food and drink if not a little expensive in Stockholm

MrsPringles · 30/08/2017 19:34

I had 10 nights in Mexico with just DH for our honeymoon, was bloody amazing.

Then we had 4 nights at Disneyland Paris with DS, MIL and FIL. Was equally amazing and we've been very lucky this year Smile

thatdearoctopus · 30/08/2017 19:35

We usually do a few trips each year but my mother was terminally ill this year, so we couldn't plan far ahead.
We went skiing in February, and did an Air bnb in the Peak District with friends in May.
After my mum died, my sister and I took my dad on a cruise to the Norwegian fjords in July, which was lovely but am still reeling from the prices in port. £8 for a bottle of beer!! Then dh and I did a week in the New Forest with the dog. Did a bit of beaching/forest walks/sailing with ILs/golf and cycling.
Kids have gone to Bali/Thailand (dd) and USA and Croatia (ds). Self-funded, thank goodness.

gunsandbanjos · 30/08/2017 19:40

It was excellent, had a lovely relaxing time and my boyfriend proposed! Couldn't ask for anything better.
