Just that really!
We had a super time in the Cotswolds (exhausting year, small children, couldn't face flights and high temps... this was perfect - house on lake with lots of super amenities - water activities for the older kids and beautiful walks locally, country pubs , quaint villages and relaxing.

Lovely. We went to Mallorca for the first time. It was beautiful. The hotel was beautiful and I still haven't got over the shock of coming home and having to COOK and the cleaning fairies aren't here either Sad. It's all very upsetting SadGrin.

nancy75 · 29/08/2017 09:50

@lauramcd86, Nerja is really nice but if you want to go to the beach im not sure how good it would be for a baby - the beaches are pebble & murder on the feet!
The place we stayed was called San Juan de Capistrano, its like a complex with lots of apartments and a big shared pool. It was all very clean, the one we stayed in had a lovely terrace with great views & was really well fitted out - I'm trying to link from the airbnb app but can't work out how to do it

metalmum15 · 29/08/2017 09:51

fairy oh I love Menorca! One of my favourite places!
Streetface my dc are exactly the same. All they want is a pool, beach, some nice little touristy shops and a tasty meal. Makes for easy booking holidays.

Not had ours yet but have watched everyone else I know jet off on theirs.

Sodaface · 29/08/2017 09:52

We went on our second cruise, we're total converts. The kids loved it, there was so much to do, great food & drink & the seeing so many different places was fantastic.

Planning next years but I think I'd like to do the south of France.

ToesInWater · 29/08/2017 09:52

I love hearing about other people's holidays. Winter here in Aus so we just had a three week holiday in July. We all had a week self catering by the beach in Northern NSW where we could spot whales from the beach when we went walking, read lots of books and generally chilled out. The next week was a bit surreal as DD had been invited to go to Bali with a friend while DS went skiing with school. Slightly bizarre getting pics of DD by the pool and pics of DS in the snow on the same day DH and I were both working!

greit · 29/08/2017 09:56

Just had to cancel our much longed for holiday due to DH's health problems, but still nice to read about other people going places.

Fingers crossed for next year.

Berwick upon Tweed. Only one wet day and we went on a boat trip and saw lots of dolphins. Everyone had a fabulous time.

Sheitgeist · 29/08/2017 09:57

Had a lovely week in the Lake District, in a very remote and rustic cottage. Was meant to rain all week but it only did overnight and was pleasant. Climbed mountains!

Then 12 days in Mallorca. Absolutely scorching, but nice scenery, swimming in the sea and happy DC.

I'm camping in SW France, home tomorrow unfortunately but we've had an amazing time. Weather has been 30 odd every day which I'll admit is a little warm for a northern lass. Lots of time in the pool, wandering around markets, canoeing down the river, picnics and BBQs. Kids have had a ball and I've loved having some time just to 'be' with them rather than racing around like we do at home. It's made me realise we need to slow things down a bit when we get home.

Brunhildafair · 29/08/2017 10:01

We had a wonderful 'family ' week in a beautiful chateau in the Dordogne. I lost my husband last year, and this was my way of saying 'thank you' to my family for all their love and support. We had a marvellous time ,(20 of us ) great weather, and lots of memories made.We used to live out there,so visits to some very special places and lovely restaurants. The best bit was seeing all the grandchildren enjoying themselves, and having fun together. My husband would have loved every minute of it. !

ZaraW · 29/08/2017 10:03

amazing went to Thailand a week relaxing in the mountains and then another week volunteering with rescue dogs.

upperlimit · 29/08/2017 10:04

Went camping in the Lakes with my whole family and it rained solid for the first few days. Which sounds like the beginning of an aibu but we had a really great time.

BorisTrumpsHair · 29/08/2017 10:07

We had a big holiday earlier in the year, so this summer the DC and I went to a festival which was awesome and then to stay with friends (in another part of England) for a few days. It was all OK.

mayathebee · 29/08/2017 10:08

Glamorousglitter - where did you stay in the Cotswolds? What kinds of watersports did the DC do?

We borrowed a caravan from some friends and spent a week in the Lake District and a week in Northumberland and loved them both. We climbed some hills, went on boat trips and played on the beach (often in wellies and warm coats but that's all part of a UK holiday isn't it Wink) and just relaxed. Next year we'd like to do the same type of hol but also do some watersports with the DC as I think they are just about old enough to really enjoy it and my eldest especially loves being in the water.

Peanutbuttercheese · 29/08/2017 10:08

I went on a fjord cruise to Norway with my family, we had a cabin with a balcony. it was absolutely lovely.I may go on an autumn one now with a friend of mine who is a widow to catch a little warm weather in the Med before winter. It was our first cruise and also a big deal for us as DH and I seperated at the beginning of this year.

Lucyccfc · 29/08/2017 10:08

We went to Abu Dhabi for 10 days at Easter - lovely but very hot for that time of year. Took my best friend and she loved it. She hadn't had a holiday for 4 years so it was great.

We are currently sat in Munich airport (DS and I) waiting for our connection to Malta (Malta v England on Friday night)

ghostyslovesheets · 29/08/2017 10:09

We are in Sarlat now - it's bliss 95 every day - just lazy days by the pool

Rain though from tomorrow so more site seeing planned - home Sunday

PresentlyTense · 29/08/2017 10:13

Great thread OP. I joined Mumsnet for the holiday threadsSmile Never understand the point of people coming on to holiday threads to say they never go on holidayConfused

Anyway, this year we have been to Greece, Ireland and are off to Amsterdam for a city break in October.
Last year we had a three week road trip across the US.

MrsLouisTomlinson · 29/08/2017 10:16

Im about 10k from Sarlat! The weather has been amazing up until now, hoping the forecast rain isn't as significant as I think it might be. We had planned to do treetops stuff the end of this week and it'll be no good in the rain. Home on Saturday but we've had a brilliant time, lots of laughs and squabbles obviously but just nice as another poster said to chill out. I've been lucky and been away a few times this year but I'm always pleased to be on holiday!

maddiemookins16mum · 29/08/2017 10:17

We're in the Austrian Tyrol as I speak. DP and DD have gone on one of these mountain toboggon things this morning. I'm relaxing by a pool (78 degrees here) reading and on MN. Off to the nearest town after lunch for a wander. Have a boat trip booked for tomorrow (Lake), then doing two nights in Salzberg on Friday/Sat. I am surrounded by jaw dropping scenery and am stuffed full of delicious Austrian food. It's such a mind clearing air, so clean and invigorating.

Moogletea · 29/08/2017 10:20

@Brunhildafair that sounds a wonderful way to celebrate your familyFlowers

Trottersindependenttraders · 29/08/2017 10:21

Ghosty and MrsLouis, I'm in your neck of the woods. Beautiful, isn't it?

Panicmode1 · 29/08/2017 10:21

Another one who has just spent 2 weeks near Sarlat! We were in a beautiful gite with a private pool, weather was beautiful, DH did all of the cooking, children were happy and barely bickered (unheard of with 4) and we had a really, relaxing holiday.

Our next holiday is our first family skiing holiday in April - I suspect that will be slightly less relaxing!

grounddown · 29/08/2017 10:22

Camping in Wales, bloody fantastic. Had to wear coats and a wooly hat on the beach but I loved it.
When DC are older I plan to take them abroad but whilst they are little and easily pleased we do Wales a few times a year.

Trottersindependenttraders · 29/08/2017 10:22

@maddiemookins16mum, that sounds amazing! Tell me more.
