Just that really!
We had a super time in the Cotswolds (exhausting year, small children, couldn't face flights and high temps... this was perfect - house on lake with lots of super amenities - water activities for the older kids and beautiful walks locally, country pubs , quaint villages and relaxing.

We had two. Both self catering chalets.

First was with mum and dad, it was OK, we got lost on the way there though, five hours instead of two, horrendous, DD screamed most of the time. The week was fine though, did lots, chalet was nice, bit dear for what it was.

Second week was with DH's family, it was good, near the beach, we had great weather all week so spent all our time outside. Good food wise as the cooking was split more evenly I. E Someone cooked other than me!

We went to Abu Dhabi in February and Spain in April so no summer hols for us. Prefer it to be honest. I hate the Summer crowds.

Abu Dhabi was as always fab. Water park, amazing hotels, amazing service, amazing food. I always feel thoroughly spoiled when we are there.

Spain was simpler but just as lovely, hotel with gorgeous sea view, step out of the back gate of the grounds and we were on the beach. We walked a lot and saw lots of things, my kids aren't really into the lying round the pool thing which is fine by me as neither am I.

We are currently in Spain on the Costa Almeria. Lovely apartment, beautiful views, good food, good weather (generally, though the last couple of days have been rainy). Good beach and private pool.

We fly home on Friday morning and will all be a little sad to leave. We would stay longer if we could, but DD3 is due back to school, we have to go back to work and we need to collect the dogs from kennels.

We've been 3 weeks in Romania with our three kids. Firstly in Transylvania and then to the black sea. It's incredible but then I am biased as it's my home country.

MaryShelley1818 · 30/08/2017 20:23

We had a 4nts in Iceland in February - absolutely amazing experience and got to see the Northern Lights which was breathtaking.
A few weekends in this country including Chester (zoo) York and London for the Harry Potter Studios.
And we're off to Center Parcs in October for a week.

I'm pregnant with our first baby so we've stayed in this country since April for short breaks to save some money.
Already booked Majorca for next September to take our new addition 😍

3 weeks in the USA. Used internal flights and went all over.

Quite the adventure with camping in some places and lots of outdoors activities.

Just me and my DC as am divorced and was a far cry from the tense breaks we once took with ex DH who systematically ruined every holiday with his moods and sulking.

We laughed for 3 weeks nonstop and I had a few wet eyed I am so blessed moments.

An unforgettable break.

not too bad thank you! - we have just come back from an extended 2-month holiday in singapore (seeing out my maternity leave!) Happy to be back in the cooler weather though!

Theworldisfullofidiots · 30/08/2017 20:39

We had a holiday at home and went to lots of local(ish) places. It was lovely. No packing. No waiting at airports (lots next year)

Went to Birmingham, everybody laughed when I said I was going on holiday to Birmingham BUT
The air b&b was gorgeous.
There was a little nature reserve across the road.
We spent every day at theme parks, water parks, inflatable land etc and the weather was glorious.
Was a great little break 😊

A week at eurocamp in dordogne. Very relaxing, lovely to spend uninterrupted time with DH and DD. Lots of pool time, ice cream and sun. Eurocamp suits us perfectly - value, reasonable quality, plenty of activities and convenience.

We went to Wexford for a long weekend. DH has been ill and in hospital a few times and things have been stressful. We have just booked Lanzarote on Monday and go in about a months time.
Wexford was lovely and laid back. Everyone was so friendly. The hotel had a small spa which you had to book in advance. We had it all to ourselves as celebrating a birthday.
Loved hotel but I am a sun person..

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/08/2017 20:56

Nerja , we were married there so are pretty frequent visitors . Beautiful as usual , DD loves it .
Time in Ireland with DH family including a child free night in Dublin at the amazing Fitzwiliam to see U2 at Croke Park.

AnneinNovaScotia · 30/08/2017 20:58

Some of these sound lovely. If I lived near *theworldisfullofidiots" photos, I'm not sure I'd go on hols either.

We had 2 weeks on Cape Cod in June which was lovely - kids were able to bring friends down for parts of it. Then we went to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for about 10 days in August with the teens- absolutely fab. beautiful scenery, lovely people, restaurants which produced DH's favourite 6 words in the language "would you like gravy with that?" and we toured Green Gables (complete with Japanese women tourists dressed up as Anne and Diana), enjoyed the amazing red sand beaches. It was lovely.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/08/2017 20:59

Wow , Nerja pretty popular amongst us MNers !

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/08/2017 20:59

We had a week in the lake district and a week in Cornwall. Both in self catering cottages although we did have some meals out.

Both were absolutely lovely - lucky with the weather in both locations so lots of time outside enjoying walks/beach etc.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 30/08/2017 21:18

We're recently back from our first cruise, it was fantastic!
First week was round Greece, second week Venice, Croatia, Montenegro. Food was great, kids had a ball (13, 12 and 9) and to top it all we won the bingo - £1300!!!! We didn't do any excursions as we preferred to explore ourselves and take it at our own pace. Bliss.

Would do it again, but probably not next year- I like to try different things, so using this thread for ideas!

bookclubbaby · 30/08/2017 22:15

We hired a villa in Antalya right in the mountains in the middle of nowhere . It was divine .

deste · 30/08/2017 22:50

In February, 12 days in Whistler skiing, great holiday but too long a journey.

A week in Gran Canaria in July. Short flight, great temperature, wasn't the best but not the worst either.

A week in Nova Scotia two weeks ago. Fantastic holiday with friends. Fabulous time, great weather, lots of wildlife, cayaking, yoga and long walks.
