Just that really!
We had a super time in the Cotswolds (exhausting year, small children, couldn't face flights and high temps... this was perfect - house on lake with lots of super amenities - water activities for the older kids and beautiful walks locally, country pubs , quaint villages and relaxing.

A week in Spain which was wonderful. Had a sweet little villa with a pool so we mostly just hung out there with the occasional trips out for food and beach time.

Then a slightly chilly sunshine and heavy showers week on the Isle of Wight.

I am really keen on a cruise next year - just a European one for a week or so but am worried that the price you Google ends up doubling with tips, excursions etc. and whenever I venture on to the cruises board I get even more confused with all the different dining/drinks packages.

Holiday Village in Mallorca. Holiday was fabulous. Our children were a nightmare. (Stroppy 12 year old and 3 year old who thinks it's hilarious to run off.)

MrsLouisTomlinson · 29/08/2017 10:25

I had no idea the Dordogne was such a haven for mumsnetters! We're on a beautiful campsite just outside of Tursac.

Kazzyhoward · 29/08/2017 10:29

Just back from America - 3 weeks touring San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and Grand Canyon. Truly amazing and shame it was only 3 weeks.

We used to do a lot of short hauls to Europe, the Med, etc., but stopped a while ago when the airports became so much of a pain in the arse, and we've never really found Europeans to be friendly and much of the Med is just like the UK these days with food/store chains instead of local independents that they used to have 10/20 years ago. Where's the fun in going to Next, M&S, Aldi, Spar etc in a different country? 20 years ago, you had a massive choice of "very different" shops, restaurants, supermarkets etc in the Med - nowadays, most have disappeared due to competition by the big European chains, so it's not special anymore. Most of the med these days is just the UK but a bit hotter!

We'd rather do a long haul for a longer period, every few years instead and have done Kenya, Gambia, Egypt, Israel and Canada/America a few times, and find the "locals" far friendlier and it's much more fun to see things that are very different - things you just can't see in the UK.

Two weeks in a villa in the Dordogne. Was lovely and want to go back

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/08/2017 10:30

Lanzarote , just me and Dh in an all inclusive adults only hotel.

It was perfect; we didn't have to do anything other than relax, read and enjoy the peace.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 29/08/2017 10:33

BestIsWest · 29/08/2017 10:34

Hay-on-wye earlier in the year, love it there. Blissful.
Cottage near Ludlow net week. Can't wait.

I love going abroad but due to health reasons we've done UK holidays for the last few years and it's been much less stressful.

SaucyJack · 29/08/2017 10:36

We just got back from camping in the New Forest.

Lovely weather, loads of ponies, and sandy beaches.

Cheap as chips too!

ghostyslovesheets · 29/08/2017 10:36

Oh I feel a mini meet coming on 😃

AVeryBigHouse · 29/08/2017 10:37

I'm currently sitting by the pool in the south of France. Currently 28 degrees ☀️. We drove here with our 3dc which I was apprehensive about but it was actually quite fun! This is the first hot holiday that the children have been on and it's been a huge success. They've spent every minute in the pool/sea! We're definitely going to go similar next year but we'all try a different area.

HolidayTimeAgain · 29/08/2017 10:39

Ours was lovely and relaxing!!! We spent two weeks in Lake Garda doing not a lot other than sitting by the swimming pool and soaking up the amazing views from the apartment. I read lots of books, the kids were happy in the pool, amusing themselves on tablets and playing cards.
The only downside was that we caught the heatwave and it was much hotter than usual which put us off exploring the area more.

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2017 10:40

Ds and I went to Fuengirola for a week.
Nice hotel, no sunbed wars, plenty of umbrellas, on the beach that had loads of water sports and local public transport was amazing, accessible and cheap!

Came home and 2 days later went to west bay for 2 days and spent a lovely weekend with family - walking and swimming. Then drove to Windsor and went to legoland yesterday. It was quiet as usual in BH!

Today we are meeting friends for lunch and I've hung out a million loads of washing!
I've just got to get back into cooking and cleaning mode Grin

Sunbittern · 29/08/2017 10:44

It was great, didn't want to leave.

Went to Barcelona for 4 days with my 1 year old and my brother.

Did the tour bus, sagrada familia, cable cart, aquarium, did a lot of shopping, went to barcelonetta beach, did a castle tour too (forgot the name), went to other touristy spots and saw the churches and architecture. Did lots more, just can't remember.

Paris is on my list for next summer. I'm 25 years old and never been, can't wait.

JeReviens · 29/08/2017 10:45

Went to Johannesburg and Cape Town and it was wonderful. Cape Town more so than JHB so that's where I'm going back to next February.

Allthebestnamesareused · 29/08/2017 10:51

We went to Cavtat near Dubrovnik and it was fantastic and so cheap compared to Italy which I would say is my closest comparison in terms of European destinations.

Walked the walls of Dubrovnik Old Town, scuba diving and snorkelling and lots of eating out!!

moralberyll · 29/08/2017 10:51

Presently, surely that's like saying people without children can't post on parenting threads? How horribly patronising.

n0ne · 29/08/2017 10:53

No holiday this year as I'm tacking all my annual leave onto the end of maternity leave (baby due imminently). But hoping to go to St Lucia in Jan Grin

TattyCat · 29/08/2017 10:53

When did Nerja's beaches all become pebbles?!! Burriana beach is most definitely sandy... And several others westwards from there!

liz70 · 29/08/2017 10:55

Great. Smile We spent the first two weeks in a static caravan on a holiday park in Cardigan Bay, about seven miles north of Aberystwyth. Gorgeous, gorgeous scenery, and the weather stayed dry and mostly sunny for much of it, chiefly only raining at night. DH moaned beforehand about me insisting on packing the travel rotary airer, but I told him to STFU, and sure enough with the rotary and window airer we mostly dried laundry in the sun.

Just DH, DD3 (8) and myself spent the first week there, then my parents and DD2 joined us on the Sunday. DD1 (18) and DD2 (16) had been arguing at home, so DD1 wanted to stay behind for some peace. But she got lonely and tearful after a few days in the house alone, and I felt awful us all being together having fun without her, so I booked bus and train travel and ordered her to pack a bag and get down to us. 12 hours and 333 miles later DH picked her up from the local station at 11.15 p.m. Smile She bunked in with DD3, in a room that was barely the width of a double bed, but they looked so sweet together. Grin

The next day was DD2's 17th birthday, which we all spent together in Aberystwyth. The weather was glorious, and DD2 loved it.

End of essay! Blush Grin

SentientCushion · 29/08/2017 11:00

We've also booked a lodge in the lakes for a weekend before Christmas, it was £240 split between 3 of us for 5 people and it has a hot tub. I'm so looking forward to it.

Me and my sister are also going to Poland for four nights in march. The flights were £70 return and we are Airbnbing it.

GinUser · 29/08/2017 11:07

Still looking forward to mine, leave next week. 3.5 weeks in Sri Lanka. It will be wonderful (my 10th visit, so not a case of unrealistic expectations).

Lizzylou · 29/08/2017 11:09

We went to Holland (Duinrell) in May which was fabulous for the DC and DH and I loved it too.
Then 2 brilliant weeks in Lake Garda with trips to Venice and Verona. Sunshine and sightseeing and eating/drinking. Now detoxing as pizza/pasta/gelato and fab wine means that my work clothes may be a bit tight next week.

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 29/08/2017 11:11

We've had a fab holiday in a mobile home in the south west charente maritime region of France. Kids in the pool, me reading a book. V cheap and cheerful and hot. Still here, going home in time for school.

hilda sorry to hear about your husband

liz70 · 29/08/2017 11:13

"We spent the first two weeks"

I meant to type "the first two weeks in July" there. Duh. Blush
