Obviously I know not everyone counts but for those that do, what is your average?

There is a lot in the news at the minute about people not being active enough so it's interesting to see what people do?

Also, how do you get your steps? Dog walking? Work? Treadmill?

I personally average around 8000 if I do the treadmill. Without the treadmill it's around 5000 which apparently is not enough?

My average is 5500 which isn't high but it's an improvement, I bought a Fitbit at Easter and have been trying to increase my activity as I'm overweight obese. On days off I can easily do 8-12,000 but on a workday it's a struggle so I aim for 5k as a baseline.

stevie69 · 26/08/2017 19:03

Around 15,000 on a weekday; fewer at the weekend Smile

trinity0097 · 26/08/2017 19:03

5000 if I make a conscious effort to be active, and about 15 flights of stairs minimum on a work day.

schokolade · 26/08/2017 19:03

At the moment I get about 10,000 a day. I am on mat leave though, with plenty of walking.

When at work it was about 8,000. Walked to and from work and tried to do a but if a walk during lunch.

It's not always easy but I try to take opportunities to walk. Fir example getting off the bus a couple of stops early, going to the bathrooms that are further away at work, and so forth

chickenowner · 26/08/2017 19:04

Between 10,000 and 15,000.

rosy71 · 26/08/2017 19:05

I usually do 10,000. Weekends 15-25,000 depending how far I have run.

Ecureuil · 26/08/2017 19:07

About 12000 just in normal day to day life as a SAHM to two pre schoolers. 15000 if I do an extra long dog walk.

Pollypudding · 26/08/2017 19:08

10000+ on exercise days but only about 5000 on other days- I have an office based job.

otterlynutty · 26/08/2017 19:10

Anywhere between 4000 (office job nowhere to walk at lunchtime :( ) and 20000 a day. I'd say average probably around 7000 a day over the week. I do try and walk after work if the weather is alright.

Brokenbiscuit · 26/08/2017 19:11

Apparently, I've done 10,781 so far today. It's more like 8000-9000 on a weekday.

otterlynutty · 26/08/2017 19:13

The 20000 is on a really walky (shopping Grin ) kind of day.

statetrooperstacey · 26/08/2017 19:15

Mt average (Fitbit) is 26000. I do minimum of 10000 on my 2 days off, usually nearer 15000 and between 26000 and 30000 on working days.
I have a very active job.
Although saying that I do about 3000 b4 leaving the house so I really struggle to see how people with even sedentary jobs do so few.

AlbertaWildRose · 26/08/2017 19:16

I do between 12,000 and 15,000 a day, through working out, walking the dog and school run.

MrsJasonMomoa · 26/08/2017 19:18

You can tell which days I was hungover by the lack of movement 😂😂😂

Lazybobcat · 26/08/2017 19:18

I can average about 13000 when I'm working but on days off its more like 9000

KentMum2008 · 26/08/2017 19:18

I average 5000- 7000 on a day off. 11,000 on a workday. We went to legoland last year and I clocked in at 23,000 Shock The girls at work have a weekly 'most steps' competition and they wouldn't include me that week sore losers

Wheelycote · 26/08/2017 19:19

Not enough by a long shot!!

Shadow01 · 26/08/2017 19:19

I average 8000-10000 steps at work most days.

RhiWrites · 26/08/2017 19:19

I aim to get at least 10,000 and ideally 15,000 or more. Fitbit is awesome.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 26/08/2017 19:21

I have the Fitbit on my ankle (because no matter what anyone says, if it's on your wrist it counts up false steps).

Today has been lazy and I've done 7,440 steps.

When I'm working on a ward I do over 10,000 in a 12 hour shift.

kmc1111 · 26/08/2017 19:23

About 15,000 on a weekday. Weekends vary a lot, a lazy one might only be 5000 but if I'm out all day it'll be more like 35,000.

captainfunderpants · 26/08/2017 19:25

Upwards of 20k to 25k on an average day which would include working out (either a run or the gym). We do walk everywhere because we're so central and everything is easily accessible by foot, including the DCs school and my office.

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 26/08/2017 19:27

My target is 11,000 and the fireworks (LOVE those!) go off around mid afternoon. By the end of the day it's about 15,000 or so but its only because I'm constantly walking at work.

SabineUndine · 26/08/2017 19:28

When I'm not trying, about 7k. That's office job, door tl door commute

TippyTinkleTrousers · 26/08/2017 19:30

Sorry but I don't believe someone can do 20,000 on a really 'walky shopping trip'.

This is a Fitbit being worn on the wrist.

I did 1000 'steps' once before I'd even got out of bed because I'd spent an hour reading and turning the pages and moving about to get my lazy arse comfortable.

I quickly learned that the ankle is more accurate.

Is start my shift at 8am on a busy ward and don't get home until nearly 9pm.
I get two 30 minute breaks and all the other times I'm on my feet walking up and down the wards. My feet are agony by the end of it (despite decent expensive shoes!) and still only clock up 10-12,000.
And I'm light and quick on my feet as well.

A Fitbit on the wrist isn't accurate.
