Obviously I know not everyone counts but for those that do, what is your average?

There is a lot in the news at the minute about people not being active enough so it's interesting to see what people do?

Also, how do you get your steps? Dog walking? Work? Treadmill?

I personally average around 8000 if I do the treadmill. Without the treadmill it's around 5000 which apparently is not enough?

Tippy that's the original flex I have too, quite basic but if it's set up correctly i.e. On the app you say if it's on your dominant/ non-dominant arm it shouldn't include page turning.
My friend had hers set up for the wrong arm and when she corrected it her number of steps dropped quite a lot.
If I've been shopping & gone for a walk then I can easily get to 20000, I enjoy walking.

Bat3 · 26/08/2017 20:18

I've done14000 today - I did parkrun this morning though. I average about 10 000 a day. Recently I had a really bad hangover day, spent most of the day sitting down and I still did 5000 steps (did walk to the shop via the park).
As someone said earlier, it's so easy to do a couple of thousand before you've even left the house, especially if you've got small children.

BackforGood · 26/08/2017 20:22

You won't get an accurate range on here though, especially now the first couple of pages of posters have all replied with such huge amounts.

I got myself a pedometer last year, and, if I don't make a conscious effort to go out and walk specifically in the evenings, then, on a working day I might not even reach 1000.
Even when I make an effort, I only get to about 3000 - 3500.

otterlynutty · 26/08/2017 20:24

Sorry on the website in device settings not the app
www.fitbit.com/settings/device

You can also put in your stride length too, which helps it to be more accurate.

JennyOnAPlate · 26/08/2017 20:28

I've done 7400 today. Went for a walk this morning and sat on my arse all afternoon Grin

During term time on a weekday I average 8000 and probably more like 6000 at the weekends. I'm making an effort to try and increase it but am inherently lazy!

Girty999 · 26/08/2017 20:28

About 21000 most ever was 35000 x

Borntoflyinfirst · 26/08/2017 20:32

My yearly average is just over 8k per day at the mo but that is increasing. I've been monitoring for a year and a bit. I do find knowing my steps does make me want to do more. I'm down a bit during the hols as usually walk to school but still try to do 8k a day if I can. Sometimes more sometimes less.

Racingraccoons · 26/08/2017 20:37

6,000 a day when at university (due to lectures). When at home with my ds, I do around 12,000 steps

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 26/08/2017 20:39

My Fitbit Alta HR and my iPhone are pretty consistent. I don't get steps for reading in bed (shame!). I average about 11k in the week and 12-15k at the weekend. I'm within walking distance of work and shops so rarely get in my car.

Ulysses · 26/08/2017 20:42

Average of 15,000 for this week. That's me really pushing myself so I meet my calorie and distance goals on my Fitbit. Today it's nearly 20,000 because I've had a couple of long walks. I am much more mindful because of wearing my Fitbit. I've heard people say 10k steps is about 5 miles but I need to do 14k to get that amount. Must have a short stride!

Roussette · 26/08/2017 20:45

This is interesting!

I wear a pedometer. My aim is 9,000 a day plus and I usually achieve that. Highest is 18,000 which happens every now and again, but I am in my sixties so I think I do pretty well.

However, sometimes I work nights so those days it's too embarrassing to say how much (very little). Hearing about people on the news this week who do less than 10 minutes fast walking a month I'm happy with my activity.

megletthesecond · 26/08/2017 20:45

I'm not sure. But my home - school run - office route is a five mile round trip. Apparently that's approx 10k steps. Once I add indoors steps and errands I must be comfortably in the safe zone. I'm lucky that I could adjust my work start time so I never have to drive.

Roussette · 26/08/2017 20:48

I don't understand the short stride/long stride bit.

I set my pedometer according to my stride?

I had to walk ten steps, measure it, set it etc so my paces on my pedometer is true

tabulahrasa · 26/08/2017 20:48

About 10 1/2 k... with a fairly active job, a dog to walk and the odd walk to the shops to hit my target.

My Fitbit definitely doesn't register page turning and stuff - in fact it's told me I've just woken up when I'm already downstairs before Hmm

I'm never convinced people who are doing thousands and thousands of steps in their house are doing it right tbh, because I spent 4 hours cleaning, hoovering, tidying absolutely non stop and got 2500, I can't see how people can possibly spend 16 hrs moving non stop in their house, when do they cook (that gets me about 20 steps) or pee or eat for that matter?

I did 400 once while hungover, rofl, that stuffed my average up that week...

The80sweregreat · 26/08/2017 20:48

Not enough

Cleanermaidcook · 26/08/2017 20:48

Around 12000 to 14000 on a normal work day (work in preschool so on feet all day) less at weekend, day off. Today I'm on 6700, pretty lazy day.

AccrualIntentions · 26/08/2017 20:50

Average on a weekday is about 9000, but it can be far lower on a weekend. Currently going through a phase of trying to go for evening walks which means I'll get more like 12,000 plus. (But often I can't be arsed.)

Roussette · 26/08/2017 20:50

Bat I had a humungous hangover today too so I've only just hit 5,000!

I could barely move this morning Grin

Roussette · 26/08/2017 20:52

I can match that tabula

Night duty, knackered, headache, couldn't move. 250 steps in 24 hrs!

OurMiracle1106 · 26/08/2017 20:57

this week my average is about 17,000 steps a day. Term time only so not at work but at work I can add a couple of thousand.

Get bus to work but walk home. And go gym. Tend to walk whilst on lunch too or end up working through it

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 26/08/2017 21:16

I wear a Fitbit and some days I do 12,000 some days around 7,000.

Today I've only done 2,500 but I've been decorating all day.

I think the recommendations are 10k a day.

whyhastherumgone · 26/08/2017 21:17

11,000 - 15,000 on a normal day.
can sometimes get up to 20,000 during the weekend.

NC4now · 26/08/2017 21:20

Same as you OP. About 5,000 rising to 8,000 if I make an effort.

Timefortea99 · 26/08/2017 21:20

I average 13k steps a day. Try to do more at weekends. Did 18k yesterday, and today. I have done at least 10k most days this year, only missed about 5 days when I did about 5k. I am so much fitter, which was the aim.

TowerRingInferno · 26/08/2017 21:25

My daily step goal is set at 15,000 and I will go for a walk late in the day if I haven't reached this.

I typically manage 17,000 per day in the school holidays and 23,000 per day in term time (do longer dog when I don't have the dcs with me).
