Obviously I know not everyone counts but for those that do, what is your average?

There is a lot in the news at the minute about people not being active enough so it's interesting to see what people do?

Also, how do you get your steps? Dog walking? Work? Treadmill?

I personally average around 8000 if I do the treadmill. Without the treadmill it's around 5000 which apparently is not enough?

I've set my Fitbit to 13000. My daily average is about 14000.

Looneytune253 · 26/08/2017 20:02

I do have a Fitbit and it is very accurate? If anything it under counts?? I used to aim for 10,000 a day but struggle to get that now unless I've got a long walk or a workout in the day. My current target is 8,500.

WhiskyChick · 26/08/2017 20:02

I average around 18,000 a day. I have short legs and am pretty forgetful so often have repeat journeys haha. I'm pretty much on my feet walking all day. When I was in the office job I was about 8-9k daily

iMatter · 26/08/2017 20:03

Tippy - you need to download the Fitbit app and then sync it to your smartphone. You'll get all the data there.

Looneytune253 · 26/08/2017 20:04

My Fitbit doesnt recognise most movements unless I'm actually walking. Defo dont get them in bed or reading or whatever.

TippyTinkleTrousers · 26/08/2017 20:04

I do.

I didn't think there was any other way of doing it?

I just use the app, is that what you mean?

Ecureuil · 26/08/2017 20:05

I'm not an expert TippyTinkleTrousers but I think that's the Flex which doesn't have the HR monitor.

Mischa123 · 26/08/2017 20:05

The only thing I care about is that I get more every day than my DP!

Looneytune253 · 26/08/2017 20:05

My DH is very active and would do 25000 on a normal day. If he'd had a better day he would do more to get it to 50,000 so it is possible haha

Ecureuil · 26/08/2017 20:06

If it did, in the app (on the dashboard) you'd have a HR section with a sort of flashing heart.

KittyandTeal · 26/08/2017 20:06

2771 today 😁 Saying that, it's a full rest day for me.

If I'm on a rest day it'll be between 2000-5000. When I'm training it can be anywhere from 8000-80000 (I run long distance)

Dancinginthemidnight · 26/08/2017 20:06

I thought i walked quite a lot but I really struggle to get 10k. My job is very active but I can't wear a watch there so that doesn't help my step count. I tried to put it on my ankle but it wouldn't do up. I put it in my sock today and it registered 2,000 for 6hrs pretty much constantly walking. I've been on the go all day today, shopping, work and running around after a toddler and have only clocked 6.5k. Yesterday was similar amount and I did go for a long walk too but no work. The only time its gone over 10k is when I've done a 45 minute exercise class as well as a long walk and made a concerted effort to keep walking around.

Yura · 26/08/2017 20:06

Around 15000 during the week, 20000 during weekend. I'm a London commuter so walking to and from the station (20 min times 4, up and down stairs, to childminder and back) during the week. We don't have a car and very active children, so loads of walking during the weekend for shopping, plsygroundvetc.

Ollivander84 · 26/08/2017 20:06

Barely any on a work day, maybe 1500-2500? I can't up my steps at work so I rarely hit any higher

shockshockhorror · 26/08/2017 20:06

About 20,000. I'm a SAHM in the mornings and work a pretty physical job in the afternoons. I don't drive either. Bleurgh!

Albadross · 26/08/2017 20:07

See I'm at a loss to know how people do so many just in daily life - I used to amass 15-20k when I walked to work, an hour each way, and then ran around at work.

Although I have a mostly desk-based job, I usually try and do a quick 30 mins to an hour walk a day for a break. I have a 4 year old ds who is very active and we walk further on days when he's home but I just don't have 2 hours of day to use up hardcore walking so why are my totals so low?!

TippyTinkleTrousers · 26/08/2017 20:08

No flashing heart.
I think mine is an old one and doesn't use HR.

About 9k.

My highest ever was 47k - I was at an all day festival and danced my socks off!

I've got an I watch.

littlepeas · 26/08/2017 20:09

Generally do 12-20k depending on how many times I walk the dog! I am a sahm to school age children and am often on my feet most of the day.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 26/08/2017 20:09

An Apple Watch I mean.

PurpleTraitor · 26/08/2017 20:10

I don't sit down at work either. My phone won't register many steps even if I carry it with me for several hours of running about, it doesn't like it. It registers perfectly when walking from place to place, but indoors, unless in a massive building and properly striding, it's not a fan. Stairs it doesn't register many of, either. I know that from when I worked on the 24th floor and used the stairs 3-4 times a day.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 26/08/2017 20:13

28000 at home with my kids - 6000 at the office!! I am always 🤔 at people who say they work harder at work than when at home!!

NerNerNerNerNerNerNerNerBATMAN · 26/08/2017 20:14

I do between 7-11k per day. I have a very sedentary job with long time spent driving. I bought an omron pedometer and found I was doing around 3k per work day 😳 made a concerted effort to go for a walk every lunch time, rush home with car then dump car so I can walk to pick kids up. Also always walk to shops whenever I can. Only by making a concerted effort can I get my steps up. I've been known to go out in the evenings for a walk if I've not been active enough in the day, which has really helped.

Eventually lost the pedometer and bought a fitbit flex which I LOVE! It's amazing when the fireworks go off, and it bitches at me if I've spent too long at my desk at work so I go for a walk around the building.

Have lost 1lb per week just by increasing my steps a few thousand a day 😁

Lesley1980 · 26/08/2017 20:15

During the week it's 22,000- 30,000 & at weekends around 13,000.

Pebbles16 · 26/08/2017 20:16

I like my watch so I bought a pedometer and love it. Averaging about 10-12k per day. Have a sedentary job but am a complete fidget (probably v annoying to all around me) and live in London so 2x10 min striding fast to/from the tube.
