So I took 16month old DS for a pair of new shoes today to a local shop. The sales assistant seen fit to comment "what?? He's not walking yet? (With a shocked look on her face) He really should be at that age"
DS is sofa surfing and walking with support he just hasn't taken of independently yet. I am absolutely livid and I gave her a good dressing down, so was I unreasonable??

Just a passing comment of her surprise.
YABU to 'give her a dressing down.'
Sounds like she struck a nerve with you.

I hope they banned you from the store. Staff aren't there to be abused.

Ummmmgogo · 20/07/2017 20:46

if he isn't walking why does he need shoes?

Sparklingbrook · 20/07/2017 20:46

A ' good dressing down'? What did you actually say?

PodgeBod · 20/07/2017 20:46

That's really rude. My daughter didn't walk until 16 months, she has hip dysplasia and wasn't long out of her spica cast. I would have said something as well.

ghostyslovesheets · 20/07/2017 20:47

possibly surprised you where buying shoes for a none walking child?

YABU to give a dressing down to someone for a passing comment

BitchinBlack · 20/07/2017 20:47

She had no business being surprised, she most certainly didn't strike a nerve. She was brainlessly commenting on something well above her pay grade. She wasn't abused and deserved to be reprimanded for her stupid comment.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 20/07/2017 20:49

You are not coming across as very nice talking about pay grades and being brainless.

What exactly did you say?

NicolasFlamel · 20/07/2017 20:49

Well above her pay grade?! Grin any sympathy I had has dissipated. Poor woman.

Rainybo · 20/07/2017 20:49

Wow. 'Above her pay grade'. Aren't you snotty!

arethereanyleftatall · 20/07/2017 20:50

She was rude, and then it sounds like you were worse.

Redactio · 20/07/2017 20:50

"she most certainly didn't strike a nerve"
HaHaHa - Now I know this is just a wind up!

ghostyslovesheets · 20/07/2017 20:50

you sound charming OP - just lovely

lilydaisyrose · 20/07/2017 20:50

Does he need shoes if he's not walking outside?

woodhill · 20/07/2017 20:50

You sound lovely Confused

arethereanyleftatall · 20/07/2017 20:51

Jesus, just read your second comment. You sound lovely.

EssieTregowan · 20/07/2017 20:51

Pass-remarkable? Dressing down? Above her pay grade?

Are you my 88yo grandmother? She speaks like that.

Whosthemummynow · 20/07/2017 20:51

Come on, alot of people would be mildly suprised a 16mo isn't walking.

There's no need to get so defensive about it. Reprimanding shop assistants....really

pynk · 20/07/2017 20:51

Yabu - You could have corrected her without getting stroppy. It's not a big deal and it's really not worth getting annoyed by it. There are plenty of irritating things in life that are worthy of your ire but this isn't one of them.

A 'good dressing down' sounds a bit Eastenders to me.

thefutureisfemale · 20/07/2017 20:52

So what's your pay grade OP? Can't be much above 0 with those manners.

blueskyinmarch · 20/07/2017 20:52

You are coming across as very superior. Why would you be going for shoes for a non walking child anyway? You have her a dressing down? How very big of you. Maybe she was misguided in why she commented but I am imagining she was probably a young girl on minimum wage. We can't all be perfect.

skyzumarubble · 20/07/2017 20:53

You sound a delight op.

pynk · 20/07/2017 20:53

Just seen your second post. I think you need a chill pill 💊

HonestIy think you really overreacted and probably ended up sounding a bit pompous.

thefutureisfemale · 20/07/2017 20:54

I think a nerve was definitely struck or OP wouldn't be abusing a shop assistant in person and on the internet with comments like 'brainless, stupid and above her pay grade.'

Wonderful parenting for your DC to witness.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 20/07/2017 20:54

YAU.

WhiskyChick · 20/07/2017 20:55

Wow, maybe she's crap at small talk but you just sound bloody rude.

Also I think you meant to say "saw fit"
