Pass remarkable sales assistant??

So I took 16month old DS for a pair of new shoes today to a local shop. The sales assistant seen fit to comment "what?? He's not walking yet? (With a shocked look on her face) He really should be at that age"
DS is sofa surfing and walking with support he just hasn't taken of independently yet. I am absolutely livid and I gave her a good dressing down, so was I unreasonable??

I have a vision of the OP 'salon owner' being a Coleen Rooney type - fake nails, big hair, orange tan, swanning in to shoe shop and being offended!

I could be completely wrong but it's made me chuckle 😃

Msqueen33 · 21/07/2017 11:30

This thread is hilarious. I've expanded my phrases to now include pass remarkable.

OP you know maybe she was being rude or maybe she opening up a line of conversation. Yet you gave her a dressing down and used some very choice comments. Not exactly pleasant.

littleshirleybeans · 21/07/2017 12:00

I'm in Scotland and pass-remarkable is a phrase I've often used and heard being used.
''Tis a most wondrous phrase Grin

gingergenius · 21/07/2017 13:01

It's all a bit 'hyacinth bouquet' really!!! Confused

havalina1 · 21/07/2017 13:10

"Very pass remarkable" is a common phrase in Ireland. It's great!

As is jelly jaws. I love that for someone who can't help but gossip. They have jelly jaws Grin

LightastheBreeze · 21/07/2017 13:15

This sounds like something out of Enid Blyton, they have dressing downs, I also thought the OP was a typo as I had never heard of the expression pass-remarkable

CheeseCrackersAndWine · 21/07/2017 14:18

I think had you reacted differently and worded your OP better, you would have gotten a different response here. I think the sales woman had no place telling you that your child should be walking already. Firstly because it's not THAT late not be walking and secondly, as a parent of a child with hidden disabilities that is almost 2 and not yet walking, I would prefer strangers not to comment on what she should and shouldn't be doing for her age.

That said, I don't think you should have reacted the way did and your attitude (and strange Christmas gift giving to a shoe shop) has now been the focus of this thread rather than the fact that the sales woman probably was a bit out of order for commenting on your child's development.

zukiecat · 21/07/2017 14:33

If you had come into the shop where I work and spoke to me like that OP, then I would have refused to serve you

Then if you had kicked off about that, I'd have called my manager over and got him to ban you,

It has happened before when customers have been spectacularly rude

We are not there to be abused.

AdoraBell · 21/07/2017 14:40

Grin at jelly jaws, never heard that one.

OP YAU

zukiecat · 21/07/2017 14:40

There's nothing wrong in tipping the shop, I don't get why you are getting a hard time about that OP

I work in my local shop (Scottish Grocery Chain)

We get gifts from customers quite regularly, things like boxes of biscuits, sweeties, that kind of thing

They all go in the staff canteen and are greatly appreciated!

Sparklingbrook · 21/07/2017 14:41

A lot of shops don't allow their staff to accept monetary tips.

@Zukiecat I will happily ban her for you!

Groovee · 21/07/2017 14:51

I've never bought my husbands shoes in the 20 years we've been together. He's an adult and can buy his own shoes!

I don't think you needed to give anyone a dressing down. My children were late walkers like their dad. A polite "ah well all children are different!" Would have been better.

crazykitten20 · 21/07/2017 14:52

I can see that if you are a little protective of your child's development, that the lady's comment might have hurt you. I am sure she didn't mean it in a hurtful way. I'm sure she just blurted it out. Most babies walk earlier than 16 months (fact) but it makes no odds. My daughter walked at 14 months. I walked at 9 months. We both walk the same as adults 😊

2017SoFarSoGood · 21/07/2017 15:53

Ok I could not sleep last night because I failed to confess. Whilst it is true that I have never bought my DH shoes, I have bought several horrendously over priced (and over sized if you ask me) pairs for my DS. Never willingly though, and I swear I have never tipped the sales person.

zukiecat · 21/07/2017 17:41

Should also add that I'm Scottish and gave never heard of Pass Remarkable!

I think I'd get laughed at if I used it at work tomorrow!
