So I took 16month old DS for a pair of new shoes today to a local shop. The sales assistant seen fit to comment "what?? He's not walking yet? (With a shocked look on her face) He really should be at that age"
DS is sofa surfing and walking with support he just hasn't taken of independently yet. I am absolutely livid and I gave her a good dressing down, so was I unreasonable??

Pay grade? Wow. Shock

Palegreenstars · 20/07/2017 20:55

Surprised isn't something you 'have a business being' it's just something you are.

Maybe she was surprised you were buying shoes for a child not walking yet. Many might be...

Flushot · 20/07/2017 20:55

Pass-remarkable? Dressing down? Above her pay grade

See I thought it was a typo until I read this comment so then I Googled and see that it is in fact a phrase... Who knew? Confused

MillieMoodle · 20/07/2017 20:55

You sound delightful Hmm

YABU but clearly don't want to be told that, seen as the shop assistant apparently "deserved" her "dressing down".

Fwiw, no I don't think she should have commented on whether or not your child can walk independently. But I don't think you should have given her a "dressing down" either.

Out of interest, what did you actually say to her?

MaximaDeWit · 20/07/2017 20:56

I imagine her "pay grade" fitting shoes for lots and lots of children is above your "pay grade" as a precious, over-sensitive mother.

Why do people like you have to make everything in life a confrontation?

NoMoreDecorating · 20/07/2017 20:56

Oooh above her pay grade was it? Tut tut, daft woman. Doesn't she know not to speak to those earning more than her?! I am assuming you are employed and earn a decent wage, OP

SabineUndine · 20/07/2017 20:57

She was brainlessly commenting on something well above her pay grade

Good heavens. Poor woman. You are not only being unreasonable, you are being offensive.

KimmySchmidt1 · 20/07/2017 20:57

The past tense of the verb 'to see' is 'saw'. - the sales assistant SAW fit.

Now next time you give someone a dressing down you can do it in fluent English.

MaximaDeWit · 20/07/2017 20:57

Pass-remarkable? Dressing down? Above her pay grade

You are also exceptionally bombastic, OP!

Goodythreeshoes · 20/07/2017 20:59

Wow. Hope you didn't tell her she was 'brainless' OP.

nancy75 · 20/07/2017 20:59

Well above her pay grade? You sound like a real delight op, just the kind of customer shop assistants love to deal with.

RainbowPastel · 20/07/2017 20:59

Who on earth do you think you are? You sound incredibly rude. I hope they chucked you out the shop.

MissBax · 20/07/2017 20:59

YAU for your last comment alone. Ew.

SonicBoomBoom · 20/07/2017 21:00
peachgreen · 20/07/2017 21:00

YANBU to be annoyed OP but no need to be rude (which I'm guessing you were, given the content of your posts!).

Mostly I'm here because I love "pass remarkable". I'd never heard it until I moved to NI.

flickerty · 20/07/2017 21:00

Wow.....!

kali110 · 20/07/2017 21:00

She wasn't abused and deserved to be reprimanded for her stupid comment.
Hmm hope they ban you.
People treat sales staff like crap.

LeakyLittleBoat · 20/07/2017 21:00

Someone here is coming across like a bit of a dick - and I'm not talking about the sales assistant.

Schmoochypoos · 20/07/2017 21:00

Crikey you sound like a real delight OP. She shouldn't have said it as she did but I doubt she meant any harm. Just making a comment. I feel sorry for her if you were really rude.

user1483617032 · 20/07/2017 21:02

No need for that, speak to retail workers with more respect. I hate customers like you.

user1483617032 · 20/07/2017 21:03

Should also let you know that you will be the topic of conversation in the workplace now. Next time you go in, the staff will know who you are.

Sparklingbrook · 20/07/2017 21:03

What does 'pass remarkable' mean?

thefutureisfemale · 20/07/2017 21:03

You can tell how a person was raised by how the treat service workers without a doubt.

HarrietSchulenberg · 20/07/2017 21:04

You sound as if you have a very high opinion of yourself. Maybe you should select and fit your own child's shoes if you don't want the serfs to speak.

She was right: 16 months IS late for walking, and I speak as the mother of a child who didn't bother getting upright until he 17 months.

peachgreen · 20/07/2017 21:04

@Sparklingbrook Someone who gives their opinion where it's not wanted - e.g. "passes remarks".
