Not really AIBU - just want to hear your thoughts really.

I don't often watch it, but think it's nice that they've finally cast a woman as the Doctor :)

Is that announced then? I thought it was still to be confirmed and there was two joint faves?

Purplemac · 16/07/2017 17:12

I am SO EXCITED and so is my 7yo DAD.

Purplemac · 16/07/2017 17:13

DsD not dad!

LadyDeadpool · 16/07/2017 17:13

Hugely excited to see how the Doctor reacts to her new body! I haven't watched Capaldi but I'll come back for the excitement.

LilaBard · 16/07/2017 17:14

I'm not someone who was actively after a certain type of actor for the role (ie a woman, a black man, someone ginger, etc) but I'm pleasantly surprised. I think she'll be great.

steff13 · 16/07/2017 17:14

Is that the lady whose kid got killed on Broadchurch?

ineedamoreadultieradult · 16/07/2017 17:15

Which one was she in Broadchurch? I didn't recognise her in the trailer.

SoupDragon · 16/07/2017 17:15

More discussion here

Ropsleybunny · 16/07/2017 17:15

I liked her a lot in Broadchurch and I'm thrilled she's the new Doctor.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 16/07/2017 17:15

Hmm, she was great in Broadchurch, but I haven't seen her in anything else.

AfunaMbatata · 16/07/2017 17:15

Why couldn't they have brought back Jenny if they wanted a female Time lord? I don't get why they haven't brought her back. DrWho is a man, he has children and grandchildren!

TheSconeOfStone · 16/07/2017 17:15

Meh. Not sure how I feel about a female Dr but they could've picked someone more quirky or interesting. She seems really bland. I can't even remember her from things I've watch with her in. Not impressed. I do like Dr Who so I'll give her a chance.

Bluntness100 · 16/07/2017 17:16

Ooh it is announced,,,well done her. I.l give it a watch again.,,

maddiemookins16mum · 16/07/2017 17:17

I'm torn. To me Dr Who is a man! But.....I salute the BBC for doing this (would James Bond be a women?......but then again James Bond is horrendously sexist anyway). Not sure what I think.

Penny4UrThoughts · 16/07/2017 17:17

Afuna, women can also have children and grandchildren Hmm

Glumglowworm · 16/07/2017 17:17

I don't know her (don't watch broadchurch), but I think it will be interesting.

cardibach · 16/07/2017 17:18

I'm not sure what I think. I haven't liked the sex flexibility idea from when it was first brought up with the time lord the doctor killed being regenerated as a woman, hated Missy (though that might have been the stupid arch overacted wat she was played) and didn't want a female doctor. I think it's unnecessary to mess with the formula in this way. There have always been strong female characters in the show (once they stopped just screaming in about 1975) and I just think the Doctor is a man. Female time lords (ladies? Even that's unclear) are female. I don't like the idea.
Setting that aside, I'm not sure about this particular actress anyway. She doesny seem capable of the trade mark doctor irascibleness and energy.

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 16/07/2017 17:22

Ooh. Spoiler! Hadn't watched the announcement yet.

WinchestersInATardis · 16/07/2017 17:23

I've seen a lot of people compare this to turning James Bond female, but Bond is a human male whereas the Doctor is a time traveling alien who is capable of regenerating into a different bodies so not quite comparable.
Jodie Whittaker looks like she'll be fab.

WinchestersInATardis · 16/07/2017 17:24

Besides a 'Bond. Jane Bond' would be fun. Grin

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 16/07/2017 17:24

Was hoping it was going to be Phoebe waller-bridge.

ginflumpsandzebraprint · 16/07/2017 17:30

She was in st trinians as the receptionist ( Beverly) and attack the block . Great film ! And a lot of other smaller parts but my DD's love her and I do like her and recognise her when I see her in things

BikeRunSki · 16/07/2017 17:36

She's from the next village.
Not that I've ever met her!

TheSconeOfStone · 16/07/2017 17:37

Just realised who Phoebe Waller-Bridge is. I could see that as a really interesting choice. This one not so much. We shall see. I'm surprisingly irritated by this waste of an opportunity to shake up the role. We shall see.

LadyDeadpool · 16/07/2017 17:38

Just want to make the point that 007 is an agent number so he could be a dog if they wanted to.

Husband is making the point that he has always felt Time Lords are beings of pure energy as they evolved beyond physical bodies and so can take whatever form they want.
