Not really AIBU - just want to hear your thoughts really.

I don't often watch it, but think it's nice that they've finally cast a woman as the Doctor :)

Honestly, gutted. Love Who, and haven't liked her in anything I've seen her in.

Been watching since the 60s (old) and think they've jumped the shark here. But we'll see. Maybe she'll fit, who knows.

Fl0ellafunbags · 16/07/2017 17:44

Nowt like a bit of nepotism.

LetZygonsbeZygones · 16/07/2017 17:46

I was born in 1960 so have grown up with the show. Will give it a go but the Doctor is so male in my mind, I'm going to find it weird. Really hope she suits the part. I've not seen her in anything.

cardibach · 16/07/2017 17:46

They aren't pure energy, though, *LadyDeadpool^. They have bodies and regenerate Confused

cardibach · 16/07/2017 17:47

Bold fail

Helendee · 16/07/2017 17:47

I was hoping it was going to be Kris Marshall. Shame!

Longdistance · 16/07/2017 17:50

When I'd seen the line up earlier, I was pleased she was in the line up. I've seen other stuff she's been in and she's got quite a characterful face.

I'm looking forward to it, as Peter Capaldi was getting on my nerves. Sorry Peter if you're reading this Blush

bigmouthstrikesagain · 16/07/2017 17:55

Regardless of how I feel. I am really happy to hear my 8 yo dd and nearly 13 yo ds being really positive about the choice especially dd2 as she is new to properly being a who fan. For they are the viewers that really matter imo! I am happy as well but nervous about the scrip doing the new Dr justice. If the story and acting is good then it will be fine.

SootSprite · 16/07/2017 17:59

Meh. It doesn't sit right with me if I'm honest. Doctor Who is a bloke. It would be like casting a man to play Elizabeth I. Just blatantly wrong.

I won't be watching.

ragged · 16/07/2017 18:03

Thumbs up from my kids. Lots of storyline opportunities with a female body.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 16/07/2017 18:03

I'm a bit disappointed too. I'd always hoped that if they cast a female in the role they'd choose Joanna Lumley. She's got all the right quirks.

scottishdiem · 16/07/2017 18:04

Interesting alliances forming. The MRAs on Twitter and the disappointed women here....

GivePeasAGo · 16/07/2017 18:05

She's not the first female time lord though is she? What about miss?

GivePeasAGo · 16/07/2017 18:05

Missy*

PerspicaciaTick · 16/07/2017 18:07

Sootsprite - Quentin Crisp played one my favourite ever Elizabeths - he was brilliant.

HoneyIshrunktheBiscuit · 16/07/2017 18:10

Elizabeth I was an actual living human. Doctor who is fictional.

Hope we get a black bond next.

cardibach · 16/07/2017 18:11

Nobody is suggesting she's the first female time lords. There have always been female time lords. What people are questioning is a female Doctor. And as I've said, I hated Missy. Experiment didn't work. Drop it.

JacquesHammer · 16/07/2017 18:11

It would be like casting a man to play Elizabeth I

Notwithstanding the fact that I can think of at least one man who HAS played Elizabeth I, I am pretty sure she wasn't a time-travelling alien with two hearts who could take any form she wanted on regeneration.

caffeinestream · 16/07/2017 18:11

Missy isn't the Doctor though, I think that's the thing people are upset with.

I've never seen her in anything so I'm willing to give her a chance. I second a PP that Joanna Lumley would be good though!

cardibach · 16/07/2017 18:13

Why do people want race and sex changes for established characters as though that shows how equal we all are? Equal would be casting for new shows being gender and race blind. This is something else.

JammyGem · 16/07/2017 18:15

Glad it's a woman (about time) but not so sure about her - I was hoping they'd have someone who's a bit quirky - was really hoping for Olivia Coleman.

But time will tell, I may be pleasantly surprised!

JacquesHammer · 16/07/2017 18:19

Why do people want race and sex changes for established characters as though that shows how equal we all are

Because the whole concept of Dr Who is that the character can take on any form at regeneration. There's no NEED for it always to be a white man

DotForShort · 16/07/2017 18:22

I think it's brilliant.

BouncyHedgehog · 16/07/2017 18:22

I am pretty sure she wasn't a time-travelling alien with two hearts who could take any form she wanted Almost. German master of disguise, who can also do a very good sheep, wasn't it? (On a related note Miranda Richardson would make an amazing Doctor)

PerspicaciaTick · 16/07/2017 18:23

I'm not sure you can call Doctor Who an established character exactly, maybe a collection of characteristics from which each actor selects some and adds a few of their own?
