To be horrified by people in changing rooms?

I went on a lovely spa day today with a friend as my first day away from my 6 month old dd.
While getting changed for lunch a woman came out of the showers and stood around for about 5 minutes having a chat/getting in my way - right next to me completely starkers! I was getting changed under a towel and my locker was there and the bench the other side of me so I couldn't move without being really awkward as I was obviously using that space.
I wouldn't mind her just getting changed but she didn't, she had a towel round her head and her full bush and boobs out, she wasn't even facing the lockers, it was like she was just parading in my face.
I've no issue with nakedness in changing rooms while getting changed but don't just stand around naked making me feel awkward!
Aibu?

Don't visit Scandinavia then OP. There are only communal changing rooms there and every single person, young, old, fat, thin, is stark bollock, openly naked, from the moment the clothes come off until they go back on again.

I think it's great. Even the teenage girls, normally self-conscious creatures, will stand around naked whilst chatting to each other in the showers (also communal). What a great way to encourage body confidence, positivity and acceptance.

Sheepy - you're so right! I loved my time in Iceland as a teenager, as it was so enlightening to see such a range of women's bodies. It totally changed the way I felt about my own. By the end of my trip I was (almost) as blase as the locals about "parading around" in the buff, and it felt pretty liberating.
There was something in the news recently about girls of 12 and 13 showing up to their GPs wanting labiaplasties because they don't look like what they see in porn - it's such a shame society has gotten to the point where we don't know what normal anatomical variety is anymore.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2017 20:10

oh.
I thought you were just catching up with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen's room butchery.

Flyinggeese · 03/07/2017 20:10

Lucie brilliantly put! Agree.

BurntBum · 03/07/2017 20:11

Just be thankful it wasn't your boss insisting on discussing next week's schedule whilst stark naked (25 years ago and still can't erase it from my mind!)

BenLui · 03/07/2017 20:12

If she was in your way why didn't you politely ask her to move over?

Any awkwardness you felt was entirely your own issue.

There are entirely too many people with body issues. This BBC article was very disturbing:

lemonsandlimes123 · 03/07/2017 20:13

ssd- you say you don't want to see other women's 'droopy boobs' who are you to judge others bodies? WTF is wrong with you that you think that's an ok thing to say? Is your face and body so beautiful that you can pass judgement on others?

Redsippycup · 03/07/2017 20:14

OP I don't think YABU. I don't read it as being offended by the lady's nakedness alone - from the sound of it OP's personal space was being invaded if the naked lady was in her way and OP was unable to move away.

Tbh that would irritate me even if she had been fully clothed!

Also, OP being under a towel should have made it obvious to the lady that she isn't comfortable with casual nudity.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 03/07/2017 20:15

I'm with you, OP. That's why I change in a cubicle/toilet. 😵

Redladybird, that was truly foul.

Smarshian · 03/07/2017 20:17

As lucie points out (probably more eloquently than me), I was boxed into a corner by a naked lady. If I had had the option to move away then I would have. I had no issue with her getting changed (several other people got changed and fully naked and didn't offend me), it's just SHE WASNT GETTING CHANGED! She just stood blocking me in, naked.

Totally agree with you OP. Why be so blasé about it? Just get dressed don't make eye contact and get out! Grin i was at a spa at the weekend and i hate my body so granted my issues are totally my own but i just feel so uncomfortable being naked around even myself. I think its a dilemma of with myself being so uncomfortable am i obviously making other around me feel uncomfortable or Do they think I'm some big prude. I'm not a prude i just hate my body and feel oh so awkward!

Cailleach666 · 03/07/2017 20:18

Doesn't bother me TBH.

The sight of a naked female body doesn't scare or offend me.

lemonsandlimes123 · 03/07/2017 20:18

Then use your words and say excuse me and move away!

DevilMakesWork · 03/07/2017 20:19

The Full Bush And Boobs would be an amazing pub name.

So that's Iceland, Scandinavia and Germany off the vacation list for you. Better put Japan on there, too. Women there go naked without any shame at hot springs or communal baths! Awful, isn't it?

Don't know whether to laugh or cry at all the 'I'm perfectly normal, I just don't like seeing breasts, pubic hair or genitals in a space designed for showering and the changing of clothes' comments. You must run screaming through the classical sculpture galleries at museums.

GandolfBold · 03/07/2017 20:21

We have people in our gym that dry their pubic hair with the hairdryers!

HipsterHunter · 03/07/2017 20:22

Maybe she wanted to air dry off a bit before she got changed. Maybe she's not upset about other people's natural bodies.

In Japan you have to go starkers into the Onsens. It's quite refreshing actually (I found) to get over yourself being naked with other women you know and carrying on your conversation stark bolloks naked.

SunTrapped · 03/07/2017 20:23

I wouldn't care about the nudity but don't like people invading my space, so would have 'accidentally' side stepped into her and bumped her with my elbows/hip/towel until she gave me more room! Or flicked my wet hair at her while drying it upside down Grin

VeryButchyRestingFace · 03/07/2017 20:23

being naked with other women you know and carrying on your conversation stark bolloks naked.

That must be quite a sight in the women's changing room.

WinchestersInATardis · 03/07/2017 20:25

Tbh - I don't spend anytime paying attention to other women's breasts or genitalia while they're in the change rooms and am generally too busy getting changed myself to notice how long they loll about naked.
Find it bizarre that anyone cares really. They're just body bits.

bambambini · 03/07/2017 20:28

Maybe she was trying too cool down before getting dressed. We need more comfortable nudity - not less.

MaisyPops · 03/07/2017 20:33

They were getting changed... in a changing room.

It's your problem. 5 mins of nakedness is hardly gratuitous flashing.

NotReallyButReally · 03/07/2017 20:34

Are these women over 50?

I've often thought that nakedness seems to increase with age.
