To want the thread police..

To fuck OFF.

Many examples recently of people appointing themselves thread curator and being rude, annoying and pointy finger ish to other posters who disagree with them.

It annoys me more than it should.

A thread policer is a mandatory component of a MN thread.

They are like sheep herding dogs without any sheep, they just can't contrain the impulse to try to keep it all under their control, bless 'em.

YANBU. See also those who post replies about "first world problems" and how the thread isn't worthy of existence in their hallowed opinion. Feck off and don't read it then.

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 24/06/2017 16:47

Thread police
Professionally offended
The nutritionist
The anti-cursing mob
The repeat answerer after the thread has already finished
The "this won't end well" commenter
The MNer who informs the person that they've committed a MN faux paux
Etc

I love the familiarity of it all.

SmileEachDay · 24/06/2017 16:47

Oh yes, Gellis the "first world problem" commenter.

The "welcome to MN, OP" commenter

'They are like sheep herding dogs without any sheep, they just can't contrain the impulse to try to keep it all under their control, bless 'em.'

Grin

I find them entertaining , especially the ones that use capitals to get THEIR POINT ACROSS.

It's like they really do not understand it's a chat forum with lots of opposing opinions and views.

SmileEachDay · 24/06/2017 16:49

It's not about a specific thread.

But thanks for policing it for me.

OP posts:
SmileEachDay · 24/06/2017 16:50

Ooh Myrtle yes...the use of CAPITALS.

OP posts:
RaspberryBeretHoopla · 24/06/2017 16:51

But you can't take a thread policer seriously!

Are the thread police posters who dont agree with you?

SmileEachDay · 24/06/2017 16:53

Navy what are you on about?

OP posts:
RaspberryBeretHoopla · 24/06/2017 16:54

OMG it is a bit like an Insurgence, isn't it?

The OP is trying to police the thread police.

Or maybe it's like having an Internal Affairs division.

SmileEachDay · 24/06/2017 16:55

High - I wouldn't say so - more people who either make generalised negative comments about people who don't agree with them, OR people who say a particular opinion isn't allowed OR who say people should stop posting on a thread because of X, Y, Z reason.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 24/06/2017 16:55

Is there a back story to all this?

I hope | am allowed to ask that without being accused of anything...

MaisyPops · 24/06/2017 16:55

smile I think what navy is getting at is that by starting a thread to tell thread police's to fuck off you are, by definition, thread policing.

It's a meta thread.

I may start a thread about people who start threads about the thread police.

SmileEachDay · 24/06/2017 16:57

Raspberry Grin I hope I don't cause the collapse of the Matrix or something!

OP posts:
RaspberryBeretHoopla · 24/06/2017 16:57

Oh this is getting bunfighty quiiiite quickly

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 24/06/2017 16:58

Ooh.... this won't end well Wink

Sparklingbrook · 24/06/2017 16:58

There is a certain irony about starting a thread about thread policing by telling posters to 'fuck OFF'.

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 24/06/2017 16:58

Bwahahahahahaha, nice one, sailaway
