I HATE summer!! Being on winter

ManifestingMyDreams · 14/06/2017 18:49

Just wondered does anyone else HATE the summer and prefer winter months?

I hate being too hot and not being able to cool down, I hate how easy it is to get dehydrated, I hate how grumpy it makes my DC and I hate being sweaty and sticky. I could go on.

Don't get me wrong I like a bit of sun as opposed to rain but not the heat and humidity.

I like winter, being cosy and warm when it's cold outside and the build up Christmas Smile

AIBU to want to hibernate until September? Lol

Yes, I absolutely hate summer and much prefer Autumn/Winter. I just can't cope in the heat. And it doesn't have to be scorching, anything over 20 degrees is too hot for me. I sweat buckets, so feel all hot and sticky and disgusting, and get dehydrated no matter how much water I drink. Not to mention flies, hayfever, inability to sleep.

I love getting up to go to work on a dark morning, I love when it's still dark when I'm queuing for my bus. I love dark evenings. I especially love dark, grey, overcast, rainy days. I much prefer big cozy jumpers and boots to t-shirts and sandals. I'd much prefer to stick a nice wooly hat on my head than have a hot, sweaty, prickly feeling head.

And I get really fed up of being told I'm miserable, or not (passive aggressively crossed out Grin) sensible for not enjoying the summer. My sun-worshipping family constantly say things like 'just get out and enjoy it. Go to the beach or sit in a beer garden. It's a glorious day, why hide from it'. They wouldn't be too impressed if in the middle of Winter, when they moan about the cold and rain, I said 'but it's a glorious day, the rain is lovely. Just stick on a raincoat and wellies and get out and enjoy it. Go for a nice rainy walk on the beach'. Which is something I love doing. I don't however, expect them to also love it, or make them weird for not loving it!

Agree. I hate feeling like I have to go outside and make the most of the day. Yuck. I like rain so I can sit in, watch tv and eat rubbish Grin

Chattymummyhere · 15/06/2017 12:21

Summer, heatwave? We have had a couple of warm days. God it's so miserable and crap the rest of the year a few days here and there of warm light days is hardly a big deal.

Bigcomfyknickers · 15/06/2017 12:22

I just hate extremes. I live in France and the summer heat can be relentless. Plus, I look hideous in shorts and I have to wear uncomfortable bras underneath light tops if I go out. Body defects are much more easily disguised in winter clothes.

myusernamewastaken · 15/06/2017 13:49

Im in Norfolk and its glorious here....

ElsieMc · 15/06/2017 14:02

I hate the long light nights. I prefer some darkness, ie around 8 ish. However, I certainly do not like dark at 4 pm nor light at 4 am.

My favourite season is Autumn and I am getting really fed up of summer by Mid August.

I really hate January/February, such miserable months and we are heading towards summer. God, what a miserable person I am.

MissionItsPossible · 15/06/2017 14:17

YADNBU. I suffer from hyperhydrosis. I sweat in the Winter (I mean full body and face sweats and even sweated when I went to Lapland!! (Tbf we were wearing big snow suits). So Summer is UNBEARABLE for me. I am sitting here typing this with a fan on full speed 2 inches from my face. If I don't my face literally drips with sweat. I can't breathe, can't sleep, have to sleep with an overhead fan on all night and even then getting up in the night to change bed if the sheets are too soaked through.

Plus, all the insects, loud blaring music, being light at 4am waking you up. Ugh. Vile. Would love to live somewhere really cold. I also HATE when the weather people say "oh it's a lovely day, very sunny, hope you enjoy" like Summer is the default everyone loves Hmm I always shout ahh STFU back at them Grin

Mulberry72 · 15/06/2017 14:18

I hate Winter, I suffer from Psoriatic Arthritis and it's far worse in the Winter when it's cold. I barely leave the house in Winter Sad

user1485342611 · 15/06/2017 14:29

I used to prefer Winter to Summer when I worked full time in the city centre. It just seemed to be a tired, dead kind of season. But now I work in a more rural setting and am also off work for a good portion of the Summer and I've regained my love of long days and bright evenings and seeing all the trees and flowers in bloom.

I like Autumn and early Winter too, but I really hate late Winter and early Spring.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 15/06/2017 14:42

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject...

I HATE summer!! Being on winter
Nightshirt · 15/06/2017 14:45

The humidity can get a bit much on the occasional hot days in the UK, but the short days in winter depress me most, so spring, summer and autumn for me.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 15/06/2017 14:46

PS Not insulting all summer lovers (though you're mad as a box of frogs Grin), just the ones who endlessly insist to the rest of us that we^ pale-skinned folk are unreasonable for not embracing the bloody sun and heat.

paxillin · 15/06/2017 14:50

No big fan of either sweating or letting it all hang out, either. Sitting in the park waiting for the kids to exhaust themselves is just a little bit more miserable in November though, isn't it?

MacarenaFerreiro · 15/06/2017 14:53

I hate winter. Loathe it. Cannot abide Christmas. There's nothing more depressing than the clocks going back in October and all those months of darkness stretching ahead. It's SO depressing.

The light at this time of year is lovely - doesn't get dark until 10pm, kids playing out. Love it.

spankhurst · 15/06/2017 14:53

I love summer when I'm laying under a tree, its leaves gently stirring in the breeze which is keeping me a comfortable temperature. Birds singing, the scent of flowers, heaven on earth.
Sadly, summer is usually me sweating cobs in a traffic jam, or cringing whilst applying greasy Factor Gagillion to my pale, pale skin.

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 15/06/2017 15:06

Sun is out!So much easier to forget the housework/cleaning when outside!

Sallystyle · 15/06/2017 15:12

It's 22c today and some people are moaning. It's not even bloody hot! I love summer as winter makes me feel ill. At least those who hate summer only have to put up with it for a few weeks. I hate the weather from Oct to march/April

FairNotFair · 15/06/2017 15:17

YANBU

Delatron · 15/06/2017 15:23

Love summer but don't be daft, nowhere in the UK is 32 degrees today, it's about 22 here in the South. Just a pleasant day. Weekend looks hot though. Can't wait!

Nospringflower · 15/06/2017 15:25

Anyone who hates summer should move to Scotland - we rarely get that much of a summer! Love it when we do!

Hedgehogparty · 15/06/2017 15:27

Sweaty, hot, uncomfortable time of year- yanbu
At least the longest day is just round the corner.
Roll on autumn, dark nights and grey skies.....

Mominatrix · 15/06/2017 15:31

YABU.

I love summer with its long hours of light. I love eating summer foods - all the lovely fresh veg and fruit. I always eat lighter foods in the summer and invariable feel healthier. I love wearing sandals and sundresses instead of wrapping up in layers and thick tights and boots. I love being able to walk barefoot in the grass.

I spend summers where it is properly hot (83F on a cold day) and where it is equipped to deal with the heat is not unbearable as there is air conditioning everywhere. I don't mind the heat, but it is quite nice to walk into an air conditioned house after being out in 90F weather for several hours, and there is no difficulty sleeping.

user1495484765 · 15/06/2017 15:38

I used to feel like that, and then I lost weight and now I love it. I was ashamed of being fat, wearing too many clothes to hide it. I was boiling hot. And now I wear weather appropriate clothes, and I make the most of the warmer months.

BoldKitties · 15/06/2017 15:50

U2HasTheEdge, buy you see to some of us, or me at least, 22 degrees is hot. Almost unbearably so. I love Winter as Summer makes me feel ill. Why is it though that when I voice this I'm 'moaning'? Warm weather just doesn't suit me. It makes me feel awful. That's not a moan, just a statement of fact. But so many people seem to get so offended when I say that (not you, not necessarily on here, though it happens, but it happens a lot more irl).

I'm glad that you enjoy the warm weather though. Most people do (that sounds passive aggressive, but it's honestly not meant that way). I hope all you warmth lovers get the nice warm summer that you want. I'll just be hiding at home with a cooling strip on my forhead and lots of ice water until it's over and I can emerge in the lovely, cool and fresh Autumn WinkGrin.

Also, I do smile a bit at the 'let us enjoy the sun/summer' comments. I really hope a few posts about disliking Summer on MN isn't ruining your enjoyment of the sunshine. It's not like we're all conspiring to create a device to block out the sun, like Mr Burns in the Simpsons. Though I would be well on board with that WinkGrin.

BoldKitties · 15/06/2017 15:57

Mominatrix, I too love light meals and walking barefoot in the grass. I can do both of those things in Winter. I do, in fact. I love walking on cold wet grass. I also love the beach in Winter. Cold, damp sand between my toes, paddling or even swimming in bracing icy cold water. So invigorating.

I don't think that you are BU for prefering doing those things when it's warm though. We're all different. It's all part of life's rich tapestry, right?
