I HATE summer!! Being on winter

ManifestingMyDreams · 14/06/2017 18:49

Just wondered does anyone else HATE the summer and prefer winter months?

I hate being too hot and not being able to cool down, I hate how easy it is to get dehydrated, I hate how grumpy it makes my DC and I hate being sweaty and sticky. I could go on.

Don't get me wrong I like a bit of sun as opposed to rain but not the heat and humidity.

I like winter, being cosy and warm when it's cold outside and the build up Christmas Smile

AIBU to want to hibernate until September? Lol

It's not ruining our enjoyment at all Smile It's just a bit bizarre that people say that it lasts for ages when actually their preferred season/s last about twice as long. We've suffered cold/rain/grey/etc for eight months... there aren't ever threads about people hating winter, at least not to the extent of the summer-bashing threads, of which there tend to be several every year.

Delatron · 15/06/2017 16:15

Quite often we get rubbish summers too. It's not like it's endless blue skies and heat...
Agree I love proper cold snowy winters too. I think I just live in the wrong country..

forceslover · 15/06/2017 16:50

YABU, I love love love it! In fact Summer is too short! Pimms anyone? 🍹

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 16:55

How many summer haters are wearing skinny jeans in warm weather? I can't think of anything more uncomfortable to wear when it is hot, and I am slim.

The difference in how hot you feel when wearing loose clothes instead of tight ones is massive, yet I still see people trussed up in skin tight clothes looking all hot and bothered when the thermometer creeps up above 21 degrees.

There are loads of summer clothes for all shapes and sizes, and loads of them are not skimpy.

MissionItsPossible that sounds awful. Can the GP not give you anything at all to deal with it?

ShelaghTurner · 15/06/2017 16:56

The difference is that, medical conditions excepting, it is impossible to do anything in the heat if you hate it. In the winter you put on some extra lights and a jumper, it doesn't stop you going about your business.

And just because it's 22° where you are, doesn't mean it's 22° everywhere. It's 10° hotter where I am.

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 17:01

Where is it 32 degrees in the UK today? We have had 19 degrees today (South Yorkshire, altitude 550 ft)

HLBug · 15/06/2017 17:06

Come on up to the North East of Scotland. It's never summer here... but it is ridiculously bright and light, especially at the moment as we approach the longest day. Only dark for about an hour or so every night I reckon (and I'm doing night feeds with DD at the moment so am awake near constantly)

SinglePringle · 15/06/2017 17:16

Bloody love the summer! Am currently sitting with balcony doors open and a light breeze is coming through. I'm wearing shorts, flip flops and a vest top. I've a slight tan (fake) and can wear less make up.

And dinner for the foreseeable weeks will be salads, salads and more salads! And the fruit that's available at this time of year is delicious.

I love the winter and autumn too but the summer days and nights are awesome!

sysysysref · 15/06/2017 17:57

I love everything about it, I'm never happier than in the summer. I detest winter, it makes me miserable and depressed, endless grey skies and constant drizzle, awful

sysysysref · 15/06/2017 17:58

About 23 degrees here, so not 30

Delatron · 15/06/2017 18:16

Then say where you are that is ten degrees hotter than the 22 degrees it is in the south? Some weird microclimate?

ShelaghTurner · 15/06/2017 18:31

In Surrey, do you want the postcode...?

ManifestingMyDreams · 15/06/2017 18:52

I just feel bored stiff in the summer. Too hot and can't be bothered to do anything. Everyone thinks I'm strange when I'm sitting indoors while everyone's outside enjoying the heat. Today was nice. Not hot so I was happy

Ooh yes please, I'm only a county away and its 22 degrees here so would love to travel a few miles to find this 32 degree heatwave....

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 19:10

Just checked. The warmest place today was recorded at Heathrow - 27.1 degrees.

WifeofUthred · 15/06/2017 22:28

I've got to run a 10k race on Sunday and it forecast to be 26°c. I'm going to burn (despite factor 50) and it will be horrid. Stupid heat.

Iamastonished · 15/06/2017 22:30

Running in 26 degree heat won't be fun.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 16/06/2017 00:11

Wife,

Have you tried P20 sun products?

My pale-skinned, auburn-haired cousin ran a half marathon using the Factor 30 one, and was really pleased: no redness! (He of course wore hat and shades, too).
No stinging eyes either, his pet hate with many so-called "sports" sunscreens.

I think they do SPF 50, if you wanted to be doubly safe?

Make sure you apply very liberally to clean skin (no moisturisers/ body lotions etc.) at least 30 mins before you go out, allow to dry, reapply 15ish mins before leaving.

Then you can forget about it and concentrate on your running.
Good luck!

ManifestingMyDreams · 16/06/2017 07:35

@WifeofUthred good luck for your run on Sunday. Drink LOADS!!!!

My dad is a red head who has lived entire life in a very sunny place (think 330 days of sunshine a year). He's learned well how to avoid sunburn. He even played sports for years that involved being on the beach for many hours (in the sun). it's not that impossible to avoid burns.

I am dreading the cold of winter already, though. I try not to think about it.
